(2014/08) August 2014

I do get water retention too. My calves are badly swollen and super taut at end of day. Starting early for me.

Do you reckon it's safe to go for foot massage? Anyone has reputable antenatal foot massage to recommend?

I'm 19 weeks, and barely put on close to 2kg since day one. Is this ok? Do you think baby is gaining weight still? Anyone on the same slow ascend as me?

I asked my gynae how heavy little sweetie weigh and he says will only take weight in third trimester? Anyone had their baby weighed so far?

Waiwish, during detailed scan last Friday I have weighed and have put on 600 gram so far and baby already weighed 335gram. Baby does grow.. :)

Some times my tummy also bloated after lunch till night. you may try to put chia seed (which rich in fiber, omega 3, calsium & magnesium) in your diet for constipation. Before that I also have constipation problem. After eat the chia seed my problem solved and i have smooth bowel movement everyday! :D
Heard water retention is due to lack of water not because drank too much water.

I haven't tried chia seed before cos dunno preggy can eat. Ok I google and then give it a shot. "smooth bowel movements" is very attractive to me!

@waiwish - yah water retention started early for me too which is not so good. I don't know if it's too much/too little water as xuefen puts it, or cos I had to much sodium in my diet. I'll ask my gynae when gg for my review next Tuesday.

One of the mummy recommended the chia seeds in fb and she said very good for preggies. Before that I don't even know what is chia seeds haha. Water retention part i also saw people's comment one. :)

Hi, i went for foot massage untill week 35.... Maybe i am bold so i just go for normal spa foot massage.
Tips: look for china massager as they know how to handle pregant mum foots!

Hi all can check w u ladies what moisturizer n sunblock are u using? Since I got preggy I am having oily and pimply face so hope can find suitable product soon thanks :)

I'm using clarins products (serum and moisturiser, and occasionally the bb cream), and beauty balm from loccitane as sunblock. Pretty good on its own if you prefer to go without makeup, otherwise can be a base with powder over.

Can anyone recommend a gynae that is able to do the 20th week detailed scan in the clinic itself without being referred out? I wish to go for a second opinion. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I happen to see this thread... I advise not to get manual pump because it is physical and mentally tired. My sis though to save $ by getting one manual pump. After delivery, the first 3 days was terrible for her and baby.... Her baby doesn't know how to latch and so my sis had to express. She only managed to express 50ml for 1 whole hour and she was having engoment. Her baby was crying hard for milk too...

She almost in depression when i visited her . Immediately, i borrowed my friend electric dual pump to lend her. True enough, she managed to express 90ml in half an hour!
This is my sharing... If really don't want to spend too much on electric pump, at least go for sec hand electric pump..... It will go a long way!;)

Hi Danreb, do you know when is the best time to buy the pump set? I heard some mummy don't have much milk, so buying a pump set is a waste! So how do we know if we have milk or not and whether to buy in advance? Any recommended brand to buy? Thanks :)

Hi Tiffany. So far in this forum I saw many mommies look for Dr Ananda to seek any second opinion. You may wanna do the same too. Didn't come across anyone do detailed scan in clinic besides in medical center and hospital.

Hi @waiwish thanks, you mention good on its own, you referring to the beauty balm or clarins :)?

Hi Seaturtle, both clarins and loccitane bb can be used on its own without makup, if you have relatively dry/matt skin. Otherwise, you can dust some light powder over to keep fresh and matt. For work, I dust Elizabeth Arden pure mineral powder (02) over and face stays matt all day.

I alternate between clarins bb cream and loccitane beauty cream, depending on my mood :). See pictures i got from google, so colours are different from my tubes.
Clarins bb cream: SPF40, thicker consistency, with relatively medium to high coverage depending on dosage, fairer base (i use the lightest colour), can tell I have something on prolly colour isnt a perfect match but not grotesquely whitish or heavily made up look. Slight sheen so i say medium matt. I find this bit sticky after a while, so usually wouldnt use this on its own.

Loccitane: SPF 30, more watery but still easy to apply and seems to be a thin spread, with similar coverage intensity as clarins', more yellowish base (i use the lightest colour - fair), gives me a more natural finish on its own. It can pass off as no make up look and still decently groomed for a casual day. Matt finish upon application.

I have lots of freckles, LOTS for an asian, but i'm happy with both products coverage. Not complete coverage but at least the freckles are sufficiently lightened with the cream on. And i have relatively dry skin, I usually do not blot and touch up my face all day, it stays pretty much the same from day to night.

For skincare, I'm using Clarins intense brightening serum and brightening hydrating emulsion. I love this combination coz face stays matt all day, and I dun wake up with oily face. Some products make me wake up looking like an oily wok!

Hope this helps.

Hi Jas Jas,

First of all, You need to believe in yourself that you will have milk and you going to breastfeed your baby as you want the best for he/her !
If you getting a pump, are you going for brand new or sec hand set?
If brand new, get it in event or fair where they got promotion and extra parts deals before you delivery.
For second hand pump, you can start looking early online to look for the best deals. And you might need to get new spare parts too! Need to do homework to check on prices!
I recommend Medela brand and i am using advance pump in style & Freestyle pump....

Hope my information help you !

Hi danreb, can i ask u something.. if buy the Medela brand pump, den i need to get similar brand bottles also? or do u know if Avent or Pigeon brand bottles can fit as well...? im a first time mtb..thats y kinda lost...

Thank you, I really need it.. KKH is getting me to considered amnio.. I really don't want to try that option unless I have no choice!

Tiffy can understand your anxiety.
Besides the Amnio there are other non invasive tests to do the chromosomal tests available. Last month I chose to do materniti 21 which they just draw blood to do the tests and the accuracy is 99%. The other name is Harmony. Check with the private Dr.

Hmm.. I'll check and look around for these tests.. just a question, how long did the test results take to come back and how much did you pay for it?

I paid $1,800 for harmony test at Thomson Medical Centre. My gynae in Mt E charges $2300. So I think it depends on where you go to.

What was the reason you have been asked to do amnio?

I didnt have good experience with Prof Ananda, but reviews about him on this forum seems pretty good.

Hi Xp,

There are other bands can fit the medela model. I use autmumz brand too. You can look for laurell33 member(she sell them). I bought cooler bag from her. (hp: 91083055)
Hope it help you...

The price for Harmony has come down recently. My frd did Harmony at TMC and she paid $1.2k. Results will take abt 1-2 weeks.

During my 20 weeks detailed scan, they found what they suspect to be a hole in the heart. And my gynae called to get us to go down for a amnio consultation. I think they worry the heart condition may be due to some chromosomal problem.. but my Oscar results very very low risk for all 3.. I really don't wish to take the risk.

Hi Danreb, thank you so much for your feedback. I will look out for Medela brand :) What about Steriliser, Baby Cot, Baby Carrier & Stroller? Any recommendation cause you seems experience. When is your edd?

Hi Tiffy, sorry to hear that! Please do whatever test is needed or you may wanna consult another Dr for 2nd opinion before you proceed to do the test. I heard Dr Kowa Nam Sing at Mt Elizabeth is very good. You may wanna consider.

Dr Kowa Nam Sing is an amazing gynae in that he gives you assurance and kind guidance in every visit, always gentle, always patient with all your questions making you feel like you have been very very well cared for and loved like a favourite grandchild of his. No he isnt that old, just that his love for you feels more like a gran's kind of love.

He doesnt rush through the visit if you have questions for him, and despite seeing pregger cases day in day out, you are made to feel like he has only you in this care and he genuinely feels for you.

That's my experience with him.

However, when it comes to detailed scan, his machine may not be up to it. If you are under his care, he will suggest you go to Dr S C Chew for a detailed scan, his clinic is one level above Dr Kowa's at Mt E. Dr S C Chew's charges are about the same as that of Prof Ananda for a detailed scan.

Hope the above info helps.

It took about 10 days (weekends included) for my harmony test result to be back. I called up the clinic almost every other day to ask, very annoying of me but I couldnt help it.

If you didnt read my earlier post, I had bad oscar results and even worse review with Prof Ananda. Finally did harmony test and results came back with low risk. First sigh of relief after weeks of agonising wait. We choose to believe in healing and that harmony test is reliable.

Prayerfully my 20w detailed scan next week will continue to show God's healing. My baby is a child for keep with God's grace.

I am sure yours will be as well. Keep strong in prayers, whatever your faith may be.

Thanks all! I'll try Dr Ananda first since I've already made appt.. If it doesn't come back too well, I'll discuss with my hubs about harmony test or amnio......

Hi Jas Jas,

I only happen to see this thread and so kpo to voice my view!Hee
My baby already 4 months old.....

Steriliser depend on which brand of milk bottles you getting.... Imagine how many milk bottles are you going to steriliser at once go? If two bottles plus express milk parts and others storage bottles then you can imagine how big or different compartment you need your steriliser to have...

Baby Cot, i never buy. Took from others.... Don't need spend too much cos my baby( 4 month now) start to turn his body and i have to remove cot soon to mattress...Safety reason!

Baby Carrier- I have big boots so sling is never comfortable for me as it keep pressing on my boots with baby weight heavy on me too... I got infant carrier for easy moving... My best choice will still be stroller....

Stroller- i got capella brand which is cheaper but my best choice is combi..... light!

Hi, dun be too worry. During my 20 weeks detailed scan, they also suspect hole in the heart. Hence I was recommended by my doctor to have my baby heart scan by Dr KY Wong (heart specialist for fetus and baby). And confirm there is a gap in the heart but not a major problem. This gap may heal on its own. If it don't then it will be a hole which is very common in baby and something that can be easily solve by doctor. So not to worry. After the scan I was so relieve.

I also did the amnio test bec of my blood test result is at border line risk and the fact that they found something abnormal in heart . So I decide to go for the test after my detail scan. If I will to see Dr Wong first, then I think I wont go for the amnio test. But good thing about the amnio test is that you can be assure that baby is healthy. Although my amnio test result is not out yet, I still have faith in my baby that he will be alright.

Hi Danreb, I am sure whatever you provide here is helpful to me and other new mummies :)

Steriliser - based on your experience, how many milk bottles are enough?

Baby Cot - Wooden baby cot is better or the soft foldable bed is better? So for your case, your baby only use the baby cot for 4 month only?

Stroller - After using your Capella for 4 months, you think it is ok to buy? (I actually saw this brand at the baby fair and was quite impress with the stroller but I am not sure if it is durable, light and good?). What should we look at when buying a stroller? Yours can use till how old?

Btw, do you think whatever we see at the Expo baby fair, the price is really cheap?

Thanks Denreb ;)

My friend told me that baby stroller n carrier can buy after delivery, where you can bring baby along to try which is more suitable/comfortable for your baby. What's your opinion?

My story.....
My milk doesn't come in fast enough to feed my baby when after delivery. I get lacatation nurse to come and see me and teach me positon to feed baby. My baby cried hard for milk so have to give formula...... If you have milk, you can breastfeed all the times! Don't need bottles at all. My case every 2 hours baby need to be feed so i had 2 bottles for the feeding , that include bf first. If you full formula feeding, then you need more milk bottles to turn around....
Baby cot- Yes, my baby only can use up to 4 months.... It ok to use soft foldable bed if you have changing table(Height waist level).... It really tirng to bend your back all the time when changing baby nappy. baby cot wood is comfortable at waist level.....
Stroller- I am practical, i go fo useable and cheap. I don't believe in the age it can use up to! cos my baby is an big baby and his leg is long... He is 4 months old but ppl thought he is at least 7 months due to his build.... He feets already almost out of his stroller soon, maybe 2 month time to change.
I bought my stroller only after delivey , most of the time, you will had carry your baby.... bring your baby try is better....
Fair is usually bette deals.....

Thanks Danreb for sharing your story with us and all the feedback, really appreciated! Sorry, I am a first time mum, may be very green with alot of stuff....so if we use pump, after pump we still need to transfer to milk bottles for baby to drink right? Noted to buy stroller after delivery, is a good advice! (Thanks SQ_babyU as well). So for your case, from which month onwards, you starts to put baby in stroller?

the pump will pump the milk directly into the milk bottles, juz screw on the teat & collar then can give baby drink liao, no need transfer into another bottle.

u can put baby in stroller anytime, even immediately when discharge from hospital, depending on whether baby likes it anot. most babies prefer to be carried thou, so will fuss when u put them down on stroller, bed, etc.

I bought my stroller b4 delivery coz fair got sale. but end up my boy didn't want to sit/lie in the stroller at all, put down only cry. so in the end went to buy a Manduca baby carrier when he's abt 2mths old. I brought him along to test to make sure he really likes it & he fell asleep in the carrier the first time I tried it on. no fair at that time so paid full price, but I think it was my best buy/investment, only way I can bring him out without my arms breaking. it was only much later, ard 6-7mths when my boy is ok to sit in the stroller, but then need to use the carrier when he wants to sleep. even now at 2+yo also wan carry when he's tired/sleepy. super sticky fella.

now I've thrown away my bed frame & whole family sleep on those 8" mattress on the floor. at least not so painful if he rolls off the bed.

I think my case abit extreme coz my boy has been extremely difficult. super high need baby. I'm praying hard #2 won't be so sticky & fussy...
