Winter Wear for Babies and Kids: Where to Buy and Rent in Singapore
Living in a tropical country like Singapore means we love to holiday in a cool climate where we have the opportunity to dress up in winter wear. Whether it’s a ski trip, a fun holiday in the snow, or just somewhere with low temperatures, it’s important to have the right clothes to stay comfortable, snug, and warm.
There are shops that sell winter wear in Singapore so you will have no problems finding something for the whole family. Try international clothing stores such as Marks & Spencer, H&M or Zara, or shop online at Lazada or ASOS. But if this is just a one-off trip, you may not want to spend on items that will only languish in the cupboard after your holiday. The good news? You can rent winter wear (scroll down to see where).
Here are some options where you can get your cool (no pun intended) winter wear for everyone in the family – yes, even babies.
BUY

Cold Wear
Coldwear is one of the most popular places to shop for value-for-money winter clothes, this has stores all over Singapore, including outlet stores at Changi City Point, IMM and Bendemeer. They sell a wide collection of winter jackets, sweaters, gloves, hats, scarves, as well as luggage, travel pillows, and travel locks, so it’s a one-stop shop for your winter holiday needs. It carries its in-house brand, Coldwear, as well as other familiar brands such as Caterpillar, National Geographic and PackMate. Coldwear apparel is also available on Zalora and Qoo10.
Universal Traveller
Shop online or at one of their stores at Changi City Point, North Point City, Jurong Point and Chinatown Point. Foxy Kidz
This online clothing store sells clothes for newborns right up to kids aged 10 and the designs are pretty cute. They have a winter wear collection with adorable hoodies, sweaters, sweater and pants sets, beanies, fleece hats, fleece pyjama sets… you get the idea. They’re reasonably-priced too (mostly under $50). Plus, there’s free delivery.
Next
A popular clothing brand from the UK, Next products are available online for purchase in Singapore. They have a range of clothes for kids and winter wear is part of this collection. The variety here is pretty impressive and the designs are #OOTD cool. Shop for bomber jackets, parkas, duffle coats, anoraks, or even adorable fleece bear jackets (with cute bear ears!). Sizes generally fit kids from three months to 16 years old.
Uniqlo
Japanese retailer Uniqlo is an extremely popular store for year-round outfits but it is especially great for winter wear. Its HeatTech range is a basic must-have when travelling to places with cooler temperatures. And this year’s new fall/winter collection has some innovations that we are pretty impressed by! Some of the cutest include the MA-1 jackets and boa fleece reversible jackets, which come in the same designs for both adult and kids’ versions — perfect for matchy-matchy outfits with the kids. Other must-buy items include fur fleece jackets for toddlers and loose-waisted leggings which are easy to put on and take off.
RENT
Winter wear can be a pricey investment, especially if you don’t go on winter holidays often. And it’s especially frustrating buying them for children as, chances are, they will not be able to fit into these clothes after the holiday. So why not consider renting winter wear instead? Here are three places in Singapore to check out:
popsicle.asia
Owner Maureen Knight has been running this business for five years now and with more than 1,500 items on her inventory, there’s bound to be something for everyone. She has had requests to use the winter wear for winter-themed family photoshoots, as well as for baby down snowsuits for Snow City visits (only jackets for kids aged three and above are provided there).
“I feel we are adding our share to a worldwide trend of reducing-reusing-recycling. Also, parents with many children are well aware how uneasy it is in Singapore to find all the sizes for their kids in one place for footwear, accessories and jackets,” she shares.
Following feedback from some parents, Maureen has expanded her range of clothes to cater for parents too, with items up to 3XL sixes for both men and women so the whole family can rent together from here.
Log on to the website to browse through the items then make an appointment to view or pick up (you can try them on before renting too). A courier service is also available, for a $15 transport fee. A security deposit of $70 is required. Minimum rental period is one week, and items must be returned within three days of your arrival back in Singapore.
My Little Traveller
Browse through the items on this website, which has winter wear for kids aged from newborns to 12 years old. You can then place your order online and arrange for a pick-up day and time. Or, if you want your kids to try the clothes before renting, arrange for an appointment to view them (they’re located at Toa Payoh Central).
A cash deposit of $100 is required for every order, and products are to be returned within three days of returning to Singapore. Courier delivery is available at $10 each way. My Little Traveller also provides weekly rental of other products such as travel sterilisers, portable seats and portable DVD players.
Baby Winter Wardrobe
It’s not as easy to find winter wear for babies and, because they grow so fast, it makes sense to rent these clothes for them when going on a family winter holiday. Baby Winter Wardrobe has a wide selection of jackets, hoodies, body suits, jumpsuits, tops and bottoms that will keep baby warm. Kit baby out in cute accessories too, such as fleece mitts, leggings, terry socks and knitted hats.
Place your order online and pick up the items from a location at St. Michael’s Road, or opt for delivery ($10). You can arrange for a fitting too, if you want your baby to try the items before renting. A deposit is required; this sum depends on how much your rental costs, and will be refunded to you upon return of undamaged clothes.
#IRL: Do Singaporean parents prefer to buy or rent winter wear for their kids?
“I used to rent, but realised it’s cheaper to buy and then sell. It’s not so bad for my older child as I can pass it down to my younger one. But if you ski perhaps one week a year, just rent. We ski twice a year and for about a month, so we switched to buying. With brands like Uniqlo, it’s actually affordable to buy. Unless you go to extreme temperatures, then rent.” — Betty Kee, 45, homemaker, with two children aged 12 and 10 years
“We normally buy winter wear from Uniqlo since it’s quite affordable. If it’s for skiiing, it depends on how often you go. If you do it often, it’s better to buy quality winter wear. But if it’s only for a one-off experience, it’s better to rent. I have a group of friends who go skiing yearly so we have ‘hand-me-down’ ski jackets too.” — Michelle Chew, 46, homemaker, with two children aged 11 and 9 years
“We go on winter holidays perhaps once every two years so we don’t find it economical to buy winter clothes for the kids as they only fit into them one holiday at a time. So we either borrow from friends or rent them.” — Dee Tan, 48, marketing director, whose children are 12, 15, and 16 years old
“We tend to rent more than buy as we feel it’s far more worth it as we don’t use it often. Storage is an issue too so we prefer not to keep bulky clothes in our house. But rent from good stores and make sure they’re clean – most places in Singapore are trustworthy but do check the items thoroughly before you rent, even things like pockets.” — Lynn S., 40, designer, with two children aged 8 and 9 years old
