Check into Grand Staycays at the Refreshed Grand Hyatt Singapore (Review)
The Grand Hyatt Singapore has been a landmark on Scotts Road for as long as I can recall. It’s undergone several refurbishments over the years, and its most recent multi-year transformation project is still ongoing. But when the Grand Wing reopens in early 2025, the hotel’s evolution into a Grand Living Room and Wellness Haven will be complete.
In the meantime, however, I was excited to accept an invitation to experience the refreshed Terrace Wing last month.
Old Acquaintance, New Impressions
Heading up the short flight of stairs and through the glass doors into the hotel lobby felt so familiar. The voluminous space seemed the same, yet something was subtly different. High ceilings, walls, and pillars clad in different materials and rich textures kept catching my eye in all directions. Strategically placed plants and lighting added even more layers and shadows while softening architectural lines.
In contrast, the reception area in the middle of this impressive yet welcoming space was a buzzing hive of activity. After completing the check-in formalities, my companion and I headed towards the Terrace Wing with stylish wooden keycards in hand, a reminder of the hotel’s profound sustainability efforts.
Beyond the reception lobby, the familiar sight of buffet restaurant, StraitsKitchen, and popular afternoon tea haunt, 10|Scotts, greeted us. The latter is temporarily serving as a club lounge, since the new Grand Club Lounge isn’t ready. And just like in the lobby, I noticed subtle design differences as we continued on our way between them.
Looking out onto a landscaped cascading waterfall, the Terrace Wing lift lobby hints at the nature-inspired sanctuary that awaits guests. But before we could begin exploring in earnest, we had to find our room.

Classic Luxury, Modern Updates
The lift door opened onto what felt like someone’s luxurious living room, complete with comfy sofas, coffee tables, and heady views (see top image). After traipsing through a long hallway on plush carpets for what felt like half an eternity, we finally found our room. Modest boutique hotel, this is certainly not. But the trek was worth it. Our 42-sqm 1 King Bed Room did make us feel rather like royalty.
It comes complete with a king bed (obviously), a round table with two chairs, and a multipurpose table and bench beneath the TV. Not to mention our very own metallic sculpture perched atop a marble plinth, as well as a cosy alcove housing a day bed with a view.
But it’s the little details that make or break a staycation, right? In this case, there are lots of mirrors, power points, and USB ports around the room. The 65-inch smart TV has casting capabilities that don’t require a degree in computer science, while light switches come with labels so finding the night light isn’t a guessing game. Oh, and delightful Monogram teas to match the illy coffee machine.
The finer details extend into the open-concept ensuite bathroom. This features his-and-hers sinks, separate shower and toilet cubicles, and a walk-in wardrobe. It’s well-equipped with a full complement of toiletries including full-size Balmain shower amenities, shaving mirror, and fancy tooth mugs. Sliding wooden doors separate the two spaces if you value your privacy.

Rainforest Retreat, Urban Oasis
Sadly, it was a wet day, so we couldn’t make full use of the outdoor spaces. But grey skies and an interminable rain were not keeping us entirely indoors. As it turns out, the sheltered al fresco area of the aptly named Oasis is the ideal spot to take in the lush surroundings — and a drink or two — without getting wet.
As the rain slowed to a drizzle, we took the opportunity to explore a little more. A meandering path takes guests past waterfalls and tropical gardens. Hiding in pockets along the way are cosy nooks where you can find quiet time or gather with loved ones.
There’s also a hydrotherapy pool and a super-inviting 25-metre lap pool at the far end. It felt so peaceful and secluded that we almost forgot we were on Orchard Road!
On the same level is Grand Hyatt Singapore’s signature Damai spa, which also received a rejuvenation of its own. We took a peek at its new facilities, which include a dual-therapy sauna, steam room, and state-of-the-art fitness centre. The cavernous space is designed for relaxation, and just walking through it, I could already feel my stress melting away. We didn’t have time to fully experience it during our stay, so that means we have to come back!

Perennial Favourites, Fresh Choices
Besides the al fresco bar, Oasis also offers all-day indoor and poolside dining. The aromas wafting about made us want to stay for dinner, but we already had a booking at Pete’s Place. You guessed it — plans to return to try the barbecue sharing platter and more signature cocktails are in the works.
Heading down into the basement for dinner at the iconic Pete’s Place was another blast from the past. It’s been serving authentic Italian fare since 1973, and time might as well have stood still. We shared a Diavola Pizza, Lasagna al Forno, and of course, Pete’s Tiramisu for dessert. All I can say is, ‘chef’s kiss’!
After a luxurious night’s rest, we headed for buffet breakfast at StraitsKitchen. Like Pete’s Place, the changes are barely noticeable, which is perfect. After all, the best part of the buffet restaurant is the authentic local ethnic fare that’s Halal-certified to boot. Even at breakfast, the wide selection of choices is staggering. Chefs at the famous show kitchens throughout the restaurant flip omelettes, pratas, waffles, and more.
By the way, another new dining destination at Grand Hyatt Singapore is Le Pristine Singapore by Dutch chef Sergio Herman. Serving fun fine-dining cuisine that melds Italian influences with the chef’s Zeeland roots, it takes over the space left behind by mezza9. While the spiral staircase from the hotel lobby leads you there, you can also approach it via the side escalator — cameras at the ready!

Even More Reasons to Return to Grand Hyatt Singapore
Before checking out, we dropped by The Shop at the lobby to grab (barista-crafted) coffee and pastries to go. You can also shop a range of artisanal bakes, chocolates, beverages, and sustainable produce that’s served in the hotel’s restaurants. Psst! As it’s the festive season now, the Santa Shop is open for roast turkey and log cake orders too. (Pre-order by 30 November for a 20 per cent discount!)
I’ve listed plenty of reasons to book a stay at Grand Hyatt Singapore, and why I’d personally return. But you’re probably wondering if it’s family-friendly at all. Well, to be honest, it doesn’t boast dedicated children’s amenities like kids’ clubs or kiddie pools, so it might be better for families with older kids. Still, its central location puts so many attractions within reach anyway.
If you’re an outdoorsy family, consider the new 1 King Bed Garden Studio rooms at the Terrace Wing. A clever conversion of what were previously Damai spa treatment rooms, they offer direct access to the gardens and pools.
In other words, if you’re looking for a relaxing staycation to focus on family bonding, or perhaps an idyllic babymoon, you know where to go!
