The Ultimate Guide to National Day 2019 Fireworks, Feasts and Family Fun!

Did you know that this year’s National Day Parade (NDP 2019) will be returning to the Padang on 9 August? Our 54th birthday bash will be an extra special celebration as it’s also a commemoration of Singapore’s Bicentennial. The NDP website describes it as “a special NDP that will reflect how far we have come and our common aspirations for Singapore”. But for the majority of us who don’t have tickets to the main event, there’s still plenty to do. For starters, how about a celebratory meal with the fam between catching the amazing aerial and pyrotechnic displays?

Top FREE Spots to Catch NDP 2019 Fireworks

Ahead of the big day, fireworks are lighting up Singapore’s downtown on 6, 13 and 20 July’s NE Shows. Next, two NDP Previews happen on 27 July and 3 August. It all culminates in the biggest pyrotechnic extravaganza on 9 August, National Day 2019 itself.

Below is a list of the best FREE places for prime fireworks vantage points. The sparks are estimated to happen between 8pm and 8.20pm, but do go early to chope your spot!

  • National Gallery Singapore – Offering the closest view overlooking the Padang is the rooftop of National Gallery Singapore. It’s even better if you’ve got a table at the restaurants there.
  • Jubilee Bridge – The pedestrian bridge linking the Esplanade to One Fullerton witnessed its first National Day on SG50. Since then it has proven to be a favourite viewing spot for the fireworks.
  • Esplanade Bridge – The pedestrian walkway running alongside Esplanade Bridge offers equally awesome views as the Jubilee Bridge next to it.
  • Merlion Park – The steps next to the Merlion are arguably the best seats in the house outside of the Padang. It’s also an ideal spot to picnic and enjoy the panoramic view.
  • One Fullerton – Whether you dine at the many restaurants or hang out along the waterfront, One Fullerton is another stellar vantage point.
  • Esplanade Waterfront – The waterfront by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is a popular hangout for good reason. The Roof Terrace of the Esplanade offers another perspective.
  • The Promontory – Another fantastic location for a picnic and fireworks views, festive excitement always runs high at the Promontory.
  • Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade – The boardwalk along The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands is always popular with families. Or try the elevated views from the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark.
  • Helix Bridge – It’s better known for non-ticketed views of the Parade when it’s held at the Float @ Marina Bay. Still, the Helix Bridge does offer a decent view of the fireworks.
  • Singapore Flyer – Book a capsule on the Singapore Flyer for an exceptionally unique view. The Waterfront Promenade below is the free option.
  • Marina Barrage – Slightly farther away yet is the picnic-friendly roof of the Marina Barrage and the sheltered pavilions along the Marina Bridge.
  • Gardens by the Bay East – The Bay East Garden across the water is a quieter venue that may be more suitable for families with young children or seniors.
  • Stadium Waterfront – Also a fair distance away but still offering decent views is the waterfront by the National Stadium. The same goes for Tanjong Rhu Promenade across the water.
