i Light Singapore

This June, 20 captivating light art installations by artists from 14 countries bring a Spark of Light to Marina Bay. Highlights include Plastic Whale and Underworld that spotlight the marine world’s distress, and the mesmerising MOTHEREARTH ClimateChange Data Sculpture projected on the façade of ArtScience Museum. Festival-goers can also look forward to GastroBeats — the massive Festival Village showcases Singapore’s hawker food, street art, and live music. Not forgetting every kid’s favourite, Jumptopia’s oversized food-themed inflatable playground.

Monstrous Fun! @ The Arts House

Journey into the imaginative universe of cute little monsters and discover their world of stories. Join a Malay storytelling session on mini monsters who live in Gardens by the Bay, sing along with the Nool Monsters in a Tamil-English bilingual musical storytelling session, draw your own Chinese mini-picture book, and conquer challenges in a monster-charged scavenger hunt activity. Monstrous Fun! @ The Arts House is perfect for families with children from 3 to 12 years.

Goodman Open House

The well-loved annual Goodman Open House is back to present an eclectic array of arts programmes in a physical format! Singapore’s largest arts enclave will be bustling with open studios, workshops, outdoor performances, in-studio sessions, and all-day fringe activities. Immerse in delightful performances and take part in puppet-making, rubber stamp printing, and a floor mural and movement workshop. Families can also enjoy a pop-up craft and food market, carnival games, and outdoor sensory art and play for children.

Wings of Time

After a two-year hiatus, the award-winning multi-sensory night show takes flight once again, bigger and better than before. Superfluous Things: Paper

Singapore Art Museum invites young and old to unleash your inner playful self at a new exhibition, Superfluous Things: Paper. Vivid artworks transform the ubiquitous material, paper, into visual feasts and interactive experiences. After exploring the artworks in Gallery 2, head to The Engine Room and activate your imagination and curiosity through play. There will also be paper craft activities, creative writing workshops, and shadow-play performances, as well as upcoming editions of SAMily Funday, afternoons of artsy fun for families.

GET MOVING

Learn-to-Play at Singapore Sports Hub

With facilities at the Sports Hub now fully open again, sporting programmes from swimming to basketball are also rolling out. Kids 6 to 12 years can pick up skateboarding through the Learn-to-Play programme every Sunday in June. Or sign your 5- to 10-year-olds up for 1-day Junior Playcation Urban Camps ($139) on Thursdays and Fridays. Over at Kallang Wave Mall, families can also return to Splash-N-Surf, and meet-and-greet with Pokemons!

PAssion WaVe @ Bedok Reservoir’s Outdoor Fiesta

The Singapore Dragon Boat Festival returns to Bedok Reservoir’s waters with three days of heart-stopping races. After cheering on the dragon boaters, why not experience the sport for yourself? For just $1 per activity, you can try dragon boating at PAssion WaVe @ Bedok Reservoir’s Outdoor Fiesta. Kayaking and Brompton biking activities are also options. But even before that, parents and kids can participate in craft workshops at the Skool’s Out Fiesta on 19 June. One of the activities lets you make your own mini dragon boat!

Time Heist: Civic District

Go on an interactive outdoor adventure where Singapore’s arts, culture, and a little bit of history come to life. Solve challenging puzzles and complete side quests as a family through virtual plot lines set in familiar locations. Your task is to save the cultural icons of the Civic District from time-bandits from 2055. Playable at your own pace, the immersive game allows you to recharge and refuel with your kiddos anytime. Wellness Festival Singapore

Perhaps the largest-scale event happening this June is Singapore Tourism Board’s inaugural Wellness Festival Singapore. It aims to inspire locals and visitors alike to embrace holistic wellness as a way of life. The 10-day line-up offers over 120 physical and virtual wellness offerings from fitness studios, attractions, hotels, malls, artists, and more. Even just the highlights are too long to list, but here’s what families with young kids should zoom in on.

  • Zentosa Fest transforms our iconic leisure destination into a wellness island retreat. There’ll be wellness-themed overnight stays, healthy dining deals, hands-on zen workshops, outdoor meditation sessions. Palawan Green also hosts masterclasses, sports workshops, and outdoor performances at the Zentosa Festival Village.
  • Gallery Wellness Festival introduces wellness techniques through novel art experiences at National Gallery Singapore. Families with children aged 4 to 10 will enjoy Stories in Art, while the Sound Bath Experience helps tweens and teens relieve stress. There’ll also be guided somatic movement and bullet journaling workshops.
  • COMO Wellness For Life features a series of workshops at Gardens by the Bay. They cover stress management for children (4 June), sunset Pilates (8 June), and sound healing and yoga (11 June). On 12 June, COMO Shambhala Urban Escape also hosts a full-day open house to encourage lifelong wellness. Programmes include mindfulness-based art and movement for children, partner yoga, nutrition talks, and fertility coaching.

The People’s Pint from The Ice Cream & Cookie Co.
