Yes, balanced – even the fussiest eaters have been known to down their veggies without a peep! So when we heard that the celebrity chef’s family-friendly restaurant had just revamped the kids menu with exciting new options, we had to try it out for ourselves. And guess what – it made us wish we were kids again!

As we settled at a table facing the waterfront, the first thing that struck me was how the floor-to-ceiling windows offered a super panoramic view of Sentosa. It’s probably the best reason to choose the VivoCity outlet over the one at Forum on Orchard Road. For one thing, the kids can occupy themselves by counting the number of monorail trains going to and from the resort island. And if the weather’s nice, you can even dine al fresco, and enjoy the sea breeze.

Kids Love the Menu – Literally!

There are no unhealthy chicken nuggets and hotdogs on Jamie’s Italian kids’ menu. Instead, there are seven colourful meal options to pick from. All of them are packed with well-sourced ingredients and at least two portions of fruits or vegetables. Not sure which to choose? Look through the red ‘view-master’ (yes, the toy we had as kids back in the day!) for a sneak peek of the meals! The paper menu doubles as a colouring sheet, and while waiting for their food to arrive, the kids can get to work with the crayons provided in a little metal pail.

The Secret’s in the Sauce

We decided to pick the new Secret Seven Gnocchi and Margherita Pizza. The bite-sized gnocchi (potato dumplings) makes for a refreshing change from the standard macaroni or fusilli typically used in children’s pasta dishes. The pizza is a freshly hand-stretched sourdough base topped with real buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil, a miniature version of the one in the regular menu.

Most importantly, both meals feature Jamie’s seven-veg tomato sauce. Hiding within the tomato sauce are carrots, spinach, swede, onion, butternut squash, courgette and sweet potato. The kids will love their veggies without even realising it – we won’t tell them if you don’t! The seven-veg tomato sauce – it’s really super flavourful – is also found in the Mini Spaghetti & Meatballs and the Fantastic Fish Stew.

Other options on Jamie’s Italian kids’ menu include the Baby Beef Burger and Happy Chicken Lollipops, both served with baked sweet potato fries. The Five-a-day Picnic Box, containing a free-range chicken wrap with vegetable crisps, mixed dried fruits and an apple, rounds up the menu we wish adults could order from too!

Fabulously Fresh Sides

All the kids’ meals are supposed to be served with a Shake-Me Salad – a plastic mason jar of veggies that kids can have fun shaking the dressing in. Unfortunately, the salad came in a small plastic bowl instead, along with lemony yoghurt. We hope they’ll bring the Shake-Me version back soon! Still, the baby gem lettuce, cherry tomato, cucumber and carrot strips are perfect for toddlers (perched in a Stokke high chair) learning to finger-feed themselves. The older ones can be persuaded to finish their veggies with a cute incentive – they can wear and take home this badge with pride!

Kids’ meals also include a choice of drink, such as apple and orange juices. Our favourite is the free-flow fruity water. Chilled water is infused with fresh fruit cubes they can stir around with the pretty paper straw. It’s another clever way to get the kids to up their fruit intake!

Sweet Endings

Of course, no meal is complete without dessert. There are four choices on Jamie’s Italian kids’ menu, each for an additional $3.50++. You can get a jumbo scoop of ice cream served with toffee popcorn and chocolate sauce, or a scoop of fresh fruit sorbet. We tried the passionfruit sorbet, which was tart but oh-so-refreshing! There’s also fresh fruit, if you like. But if the kids have a sweet tooth, they won’t go wrong with the Warm Chocolate Brownie. Topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and crunchy toffee popcorn, it’s a super fudgy slice of heaven (we think it’s really good value for the price too)!

So if you’re looking for somewhere to take the kids for weekend brunch, or perhaps to grab a meal before heading to Sentosa for a fun day out, Jamie’s Italian is definitely a great option. Oh, and they also have a cosy private room if you’re hosting a little party. Kid-friendly dining for the win, and fun and nutritious to boot. Win-win!
