Holiday Weekends In Singapore: 3-4 Dec

Welcome to our guide on fun-filled, kid-friendly weekend activities during the year-end holidays. Up this week: build a city at the Science Centre, see a magical tree-lit wonderland, go on a galactic quest, meet well-loved storybook characters, and take a trip to the past.

Trees of the World Light-Up

The Singapore Botanic Gardens serves up a visual feast with the Trees of the World Light-Up that transforms the Gardens into a magical wonderland for the year-end festive season. Bring the camera, and ooh and aah at tropical trees adorned with an eye-popping array of ornaments and lights. Make it a truly enchanting evening with a picnic as you are serenaded by the Singapore Lyric Opera Children’s Choir (SLOCC) at the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage at 7pm on 3 Dec.
3 Dec-1 Jan 2012, Singapore Botanic Gardens

Common Spaces at Science Centre Singapore

Make that journey to the west for this, if you haven’t already done so. With this collaboration between the Science Centre and Make*Believe LLP (which specialises in children’s enrichment programmes), kids from 18 months to six years can get involved in urban planning and architecture through hands-on activities like piecing together a model of the Central Fire Station, being a fireman, town planning, and building a city of foam (oh and learn about creativity, mathematical concepts, and boost their imaginative abilities as well).
Till 31 Dec, various timings, Omni-Theatre, Science Centre. $9 (child), $4 (accompanying adult), excluding Science Centre admission. Tel 6425 2821

There’s also the latest exhibition, “Patterns of Trade: Indian Textiles for Export, 1400 – 1900” to examine, and many other fun activities. Look forward to a special programme featuring Mark Lee and Suhaimi Yusof!
