Planning to do so but it seems like we have to get bio dad's consent as well.

Anyone has any experiencd to share? Am keen to connect with unwed mums who have adopted their child to understand more about the process.

Hi I am too an unwed mum. I didn't know I can adopt my own child? Please share if you have any information. Thank you!

Hi thank you so much for the link. I read and it seems that they will require consent from the bio father but is not compulsory. However you do need to serve him the application for adoption papers. At the end of the day, I think it's your own motive and wish why you want to adopt. For myself,I do not need the maintenance and support from the bio father. Because once adoption is approved, the bio father will not have legal rights anymore and you can't ask him for child support. I just emailed a few lawyers about this kind adoption , hopefully will have more information later. I will update here again. Thank you so much for letting me be aware of this option !

I actually got married and we would like to adopt my child born out of wedlock to legalise the relationship between the step dad and the child, and for us to be a legal family in the eye of law.

In this case is bio dad's consent still required? It has been 12 years and there's no contact whatsoever. It doesn't make sense for someone who didn't put in any effort to have the deciding rights in the child's adoption matter.
