I am in my 40s this year, trying to conceive for the past 18 months but absolutely no result.
Time is running out and I started reading about IUI/IVF when I chanced onto this forum.
Will appreciate if your can share which doctor(s) your did your successful IUI/IVF at.

Liu Shu Ling from KKH.

Hello, I'm also close to 40 - currently 37 pregnant with my first child.
I have had 3 rounds of IVF with two different clinics.

I did my first at Thomson medical fertility clinic (Paragon) Service is good and the doctor was really attentive and i wanted a female doctor. She's not the kind that will scan you and then chase you away. The reason I did IVF is because I have low ovarian reserve (Low-AMH) - and only learnt about it at 32. :( We tried naturally for a year and nothing happened.

My first IVF failed, but looking back - it is not because of the doctor. Not every couple get a successful pregnancy after 1 round. IVF is truly to assist conception, but it depends on the egg and the sperm whether they're chromosomally compatible for it to be successful, which for my case the embryo did not survive and stick. I was able to use 6000 from Medisave to help offset some of the cost.

I ended up doing IVF in JB because it was cheaper with Dr Tan at IVF Bridge Fertility Center. He can be a bit rush or unkind with words, but he knows what he is very experienced and knows what he is doing.

I'd recommend you to take a fertility test first (if you have not) - IUI is less invasive than IVF. It's also a lot cheaper. I had to go straight to IVF because of my condition.

If you go to KKH - I understand they have a pretty long waiting list and if you're a citizen there are subsidies you can use.
There is no harm getting on the list first and then see if they call you up.

Take care and all the very best! If you have any questions, feel free to DM me.

Hi Dear, did my IVF back in 2020 with Dr Liu Shu Ling & Dr Viardot-Foucault Veronique Celine.

My 1st fresh cycle failed because I didnt prep my body beforehand. Gotten 17 eggs but non were good grade. Only 2 made it to froze. Then 5mths later i prep my body, lost 5kg & did a low sugar diet & high protein diet, took blackmore conceive well tablets for 2 months prior.. did a 2nd fresh IVf cycle, gotten 25 eggs with 9 Day5 blastocyst & 2 high grade embryos. Got pregnant for that cycle n gave birth in June 2021. Currently naturally pregnant after 2 Miscarriages. Due August 2024.

These 2 drs are awesome. I recommend my friends to them.. when I was 29yrs old, they gave me the chance to conceive is 30-40% only as per statistics. But we proceed for it still. Didnt regret it..

Thank you so much for sharing, Azasha.
I made an appointment with Dr Liu Shu Ling and the scheduled appointment with her is in Oct 2024.
Am contemplating if I can wait so long to see her as age and time is catching up with me :(

I see, thanks for enlightening.
I really hope to visit Dr Liu Shu Ling but the wait seems daunting.
Guess the popular doctors usually have quite a queue.
Has anyone considered IUI / IVF in JB?

Ahh yes.. usually while waiting for the appt, u can start prepping your body for a pregnancy dear. Taking in supplements like the Blackmores, and u can try calling the kkh appt line to check if they have any earlier or cancelled slots. U can also do a fertility blood test while waiting.

Sometimes, it's good to wait for the right doc than to anyhow grab a doc and keeps getting disappointed....all you need is just one good cycle and one good embryo...in the meantime, while waiting, you might want to improve your lifestyle and up your protein to yield quality eggs

Which supplements are you taking? Am on Swisse pre-pregnancy and Coq10.

I will continue to wait for my appointment with her in Oct. Am taking supplements from Swisse pre conception and Coq10. Also went for TCM acupuncture and on Chinese medicine. My husband's sperm count is low, hence I thought IUI might be a better solution for us (hopefully, keeping my fingers cross) before going for IVF.

Perhaps he can try to increase his protein intake, take cold showers and wear boxers. The more airy down there, the better for the sperm LOL. Perhaps in this case, should focus on your hubby since his sperm intake is low. Many years back, my friend's hubby had this issue. He went to see Tan Siew Buoy (Yes I dont like her at all) and took her meds and they ended up having 2 daughters.

Hi All,

I am working so unable to login timely.
Just a quick update, I did IUI during July at a private JB hospital however no baby dust. :(
The Dr in JB did pre-empt me the chances are not high as both my husband & I are already of a certain age.
He was very gentle, professional and ernest.
He even mentioned we Singaporeans have subsidy hence we should consider IVF in Singapore.
Sadly I dont qualify for subsidy due to my age.

Upon recommendation on Singapore motherhood forum, I was introduced to Dr Liu Shu ling.
Was very eager to visit her and this month, I finally received a call from Dr Liu Shu Ling's assistant and I managed to get an earlier appointment to see her.
The first consultation with her is $201.10.
Did a HPV (she calls it pap-smear) screening with genotyping at $107.
Specimen collection at $30.
Blood tests at $55, $89, $62 respectively.
Total for my first visit with her is $593.07 (as a private patient w/o subsidy)
After HPV, I found some blood spotting.
The procedure performed was quite rough and painful when inserting the medical instruments.
She offered 2 suggestions which are namely IVF ($12 to $16k) and IVF-PGS ($12 to $16k + $6 to $8k for PGS).
As she was quite rough, I am contemplating if I should visit her again.

After I visited Dr Liu, I found out Liu Lingling (a local presenter/singer) managed to conceive a baby when she was quite mature via IVF with Dr Fabian James Kurian.
Apparently, he has his own clinic now and it seems the IVF practise in JB is a little different from Singapore.
I enquired more about IVF-PGS which I am keen to take up.
Apparently, his clinic offers ICSI + PGT-A (PGS equivilent in Sg).
His cost is RM25k to RM28k for IVF + RM3000 for 1 embryo check (price goes on for more).
They do not offer IVF-PGS as they need to ensure cell is not contaminated from parental cell.
I read the downside of ICSI and am concerned about the side effects on the baby itself.

Has anyone manage to conceive via PGT-A (PGS equivilant in Sg) + ICSI with Dr Fabian James Kurian?
Or how do your find this doctor, is it worth doing the procedure with Dr Fabian James Kurian?

Hello Peonies! Coincidentally, I did visit Fabian James Kurian in between 2019/2020 as I had 2 leftover frozen embryoes in KKH back then and I wanted to know what colour are the frozen embryoes before transfer so after heading to JB TMC for a face to face consultation with him, there was a flurry of email exchanges for the logistics to port the 2 frozen embryoes to JB TMC for PGS.

My plan back then was, if the 2 frozen embryoes couldnt make it, I would go ahead with the full cycle of IVF with him even though I did have my qualms about the number of trips to JB, the sanitization etc . Indeed the 2 embryoes couldnt make it and in the end I didnt go ahead with the full IVF with him. I stayed in KKH instead.

James Fabian's clinic back then was quite ulu and there were many Singaporean couples waiting outside the clinic for their turn. James Fabian himself is a friendly and approachable man who listens to your issues. There were at least 3-5 admin staff assisting him.

Do let me know if you have any Q, will dig from my memory if possible.

Hi Towkayneo,

Thank you for your valuable insights!

What made you change your mind on doing IVF with him since the 2 frozen embryos didnt make it?
Was it through Dr Liu Shu Ling that you managed to conceive?
Which procedure did you select at KKH - IVF or IVF-PGS or any procedure I may not know of?
His clinic is at Menara Landmark, hope its a new location and not too ulu.
I read about the side effects on the baby for ICSI hence am rather concerned but it seems like in Malaysia if I wanted to do PGS, I will have to opt for ICSI (I checked with 2 hospitals and they told me the same thing).

Thank you so much :)

Hey Peonies,

I changed my mind cos it was very mafan to travel to and fro SG and JB for checkups, for ER and ET. Especially, the ET, it's very time-precise and I think most would stay in JB overnight to prepare for the ET, so having 3 kids back then, it's kinda out of the way and I did have concerns about whether safe or not since it's quite an invasive procedure (i might be thinking too much)

Yes, it was through Liu Shu Ling that I managed to conceive - Initially it was Jessie Phoon, but just nice she had to go for a holiday and Dr Liu was in charge of my ER. I was impressed that there was minimal pain after ER that I switched docs. No regrets, in fact I felt lucky that I got Dr Liu. She's very straight to the point and decisive, which I appreciate alot.

I did only IVF with KKH. Not allowed to do IVF-PGS and even I could, I wouldnt because of the high cost.

Side effects on the baby for ICSI is very low and usually it's recommended only when the husband's sperm got issues. Perhaps you might want to see the big picture first..

Hi Towkayneo,

Lucky you!
You have so many lovely kids.

I am quite torn in between Dr Fabian and Dr Liu.
Distance and the amount of times we need to be there is quite a bit of consideration which is why I feel you.
Dr Liu is nearer, and her max age for assisting successful ivf is 44, while Dr Fabian is further but his max age for successful ivf is 47.
In addition, I need to work and have plenty of bills to pay, sometimes its so tough being a woman. :p

I went through the same helpless phase too..if you have the time to run through the past posts, I was very helpless and didnt know what to do too. I did alot of research and learning from the ladies here.

You need to discuss with your hubs because he needs to be present for some of the procedures and if it's in JB, then you got to make sure traveling to and fro is of no issue to you.

You might want to consider Dr Tan from IVF Bridge too if you are more skewed towards doing it overseas, saw some successful cases coming from some of the ladies here. His methods are more aggressive though, but seems like success rate is higher. Not sure about Dr Fabian, he's quite soft spoken and "fatherly", so not sure if his methods are more conservative.

Hi guys. Can I check if we do IVF overseas and got BFP, can we book appointment to follow up with obgyn doctor/ hospital in SG? For example, can I book with Dr Liu saying I just got beta positive from FET overseas and need a progesterone jab? Will they accept or prefer that we go with an IVF doctor?

Takes some time to get an appointment with Dr Liu as KKH is a public hospital. If you go to private IVF Dr, it will be faster. Depending on your urgency. Where did you do your successful IVF at?

Of course you can! You can find an OBYN who is fine with handling IVF cases. Some OBYN are not keen to handle IVF pregnancies.
