I am planning to go Hokkaido. But recently i heard a pregnant mother went Hokkaido. Came back and went for review, the gynac told her to terminate her pregnancy as her baby was affected by radiation and was told not to have baby for the next 7years!!!
Although i am not a mother-to-be but concern about the radiation whether it affect my baby plan a not.

When I went Korea this year my tour guide told me that last year one of her team members told her that her coll went Japan for honeymoon despite radiation risk n when she was back to singapore she become unwell n vomitted. She thought she became pregnant but doc in hospital found out that her radiation level in her body was way too high. She can't get pregnant for next 5 yrs as a result

Xiaxue also went Tokyo trip during her 5th mth pregnancy but nothing happened. Her bb came out fine n healthy.

I mean, if this is all so serious... then how about Japanese women? They all cant get pregnant? My colleague also went Tokyo recently @7mths pregnant and she did not appear to be unwell nor vomited.

my gf went Hokkaido when she didn't knew she was preggie .....
Just given birth to healthy chubby gal :D

I went yearly to Japan despite of the radiations, still so far nothing found on me & my family .

My friend and her hubby moved to Japan, yokohama to work for the last 5 years. she just given birth to her second child, her first child is so cute, also born in Japan. Shd be all right i guess.

I went back to Japan in June this year. All seems well but of course, be safe by not consuming food from the affected areas and don't go there etc. But overall, I think it's safe to visit, esp for Hokkaido that's pretty far from Fukushima.

PC Wong, renowned fertility specialist who did IVF for me, but failed and now my gynae for natural pregnancy says it's ok to travel to Japan. I travelled to Tokyo after my failed IVF in May, sent a big bag of Japanese snacks to NUH-CHR and now preggers and he never ask me to abort, never ask me to do radiation test.

Alot of rumors are hear-say. Never encountered a woman i personally know who was told to abort of 5yr cannot get pregnant. In fact, i told Prof about these rumors before i decided to go and he said it's fine as long as don't go to Fukushima.

Those of you who have friends who can't get pregnant for 5-7 years after visiting Japan, could you please share the names of the doctors they went to? I'm considering going to Japan and I really want to talk to an expert about this.

I went Osaka in June 2013 last year and had a full body medical checkup in Oct 2013, no reds on the tumor indicator i.e. no cancer detected i.e. no radiation from Japan :)

Thanks kerenewtan, that's comforting to know. So far everyone I've heard from who personally went to Japan came back without any radiation problems. This gives me hope that the horror stories are just rumors.

My colleague went to Japan, flied back to Singapore in the morning, went straight to work, full of live. Afternoon passed away due to some virut/bacteria up there, my whole department of few hundred people went for vaccination. I don't know, but personally will not set foot in Japan for the next 5 years.

riverone - like merryweather I am also curious what this virus/bacteria is that is so deadly ? when did this incident happen & which part of Japan did your colleague visit ? if so serious as to require hundreds of your company staff vaccinated, why was there no news report ... ? or is this being "covered up" ? was still thinking of going Hokkaido next year...think I will think twice...

oh dear!
she really passed away from an infection? not caused by any other existing medical conditions?
as for travelling to japan, personally i think it is unlikely that any effect is so immediate.
even if affected by the radiation, problems will probably arise later in life ba.

Hi, it's Meningitis. You can google it. Quite deadly one, especially when your immune system is not at best. He went to both Tokyo and Hokkaido, just last year Dec (2013). Actually it's not "required" for all of to get injection, but we just wanna take precaution, against such a deadly virut and company paid. Anyways, the vaccination is only for 2 years. I don't know, Japan used to be my dream country for holiday too.

I went to Japan 2012 April for honeymoon and I got my baby from Japan:) I went Tokyo, Osaka n Kyoto:) I ate so many jap food n really enjoy myself there:) many of my friend also asked me to not to go Japan coz of radiation but I still go and we didn't worry about that much:) and my baby boy born on dec and he is strong n healthy!!!! And of course I'm super healthy too!!:)

riverone - thanks for sharing ! since the tsunami and radiation, I have been controlling so hard not to visit Japan. loved it so much for the yummy food :)

want to get some advice, what about eating food i.e. fruits, vegetables, snacks, etc from Japan (sold in the supermarkets here in Singapore) SAFE ? I have been controlling so hard not to buy them :p

I also want to go Japan and I asked my gynae, he said hard to comment about the radiation thing so I'm still thinking whether is safe to go Japan or not?

To allay your fear, I went to Hokkaido and Tokyo last Dec when I was 4 months pregnant. I had given birth in May this year and my baby girl is healthy and perfect. I didn't even think about radiation in Japan when I decided to go there for holiday.

You know the stupid nagging question is always what if....

If say we go this year and 10 years down the road I find that my kid has a problem, we will always think back and say, what if we have not gone to Japan will this have happen?

Onsens and hot springs are a no-no during pregnancy! Firstly, the high temperatures are not good for the foetus. My own experience when I went last year (before getting pregnant) was that menses came very soon (was around that time anyway) because of the increased blood circulation. Take care
