Pre-eclampsia (PE)

Got a call from my clinic this morning informing me of risk of PE (took the test at wk 12 last wk) and was told that i would be required to take aspirin.

Any mummies have any advice or experience to share? Googled online and the info sounds so scary....

Its sounded more scary than the GD i had during my first pregnancy...That's another test in a few more wk's time...

Anyway i'm gg see my gynae in 2 wks time and will check with him why the need. The other time i was just told to pick up the prescription and no need to see him.

I discovered got pre-eclampsia during labour. All the while I passed all the lab test etc but suddenly when I was in labour abt 3cm dilate my high blood was so high which I never had before that they detected I got preeclampsia. I delivered normally, no induce or anything. Not that long in labour either cause my cervix progress well every hour. But different people different body, different situation. But if i’m planning for next baby, then gynae will have to precribe medicine when the pregnancy turns 12 weeks.. don’t worry too much, just eat healthily, most importantly, have a healthy mind too.

Hi mommiJ, you probably have high blood pressure now that's why the Dr asked you to start taking aspirin now to prevent the risk of PE later in your pregnancy. Its pretty common practise so dont worry. And yes, PE is very serious and you should listen to your dr and start aspirin asap. If your blood pressure is still high, your dr will start you on Hypertension medication too. Some drs believe taking Calcium supplements may help to prevent PE so you might be asked to start that as well.

So far when the nurse takes my pressure, they all said normal. Even the one when they took multiple readings for the pre-eclampsia test told me normal when taking my readings that time. I was thinking maybe cos my age and history of gestational diabetes in previous pregnancy prompted my gynae to issue that? I'm gg see him for my monthly check next wk and shall ask him then! Just curious... :) And I'm guai guai taking the aspirin daily. Luckily it was a melt in the mouth aspirin and taste ok. LOL.

During one of my Gynae check up, my blood pressure was “borderline” high. So I was prescribed aspirin. When I went for my next check up after that, my blood pressure was normal but my Gynae told me to keep taking it.

Any side effects of taking Aspirin? Nurse called my wife and said to take Aspirin as there is a chance of PE and Aspirin helps to promote child growth.

Yup Im taking the aspirin now. Calcium, multivits and fish oil were given to me this time round, similar to previous pregnancy.

Not sure. So far i dont feel anything. Ur nurse sounded like my nurse when she called me to go down and collect my aspirin. Ur gynae's clinic at TMC? :p

Yup TMC, the nurse called my wife

Haa.. then i think might be same clinic. Did you guys manage to speak to your gynae on the reason? I'm gg ask mine this wk... if i remember. Hope it doesnt mean a lot of dietary restrictions cos previous one had GD (which means this one likely to have too) and so many things cannot eat.. and now at risk of PE...woes of an older mummy

We will ask for more details on the next appointment which is 3 weeks later. Giving yourself lesser stress is the best medicine :)

Hi everyone, I had preeclampsia during my first pregnancy and since then have been on hypertension medication. Just found out I’m pregnant again today. Does anyone have any recommendation of gynae who can manage high bp/preeclampsia during pregnancy?
Thanks

I am also at high risk for pre-eclampsia. The sonographer told me the system uses math calculation with factors like age and also blood flow scan to come up with the risk. So it's not like you will definitely get PE. Am also taking Cardiprin (low dose Aspirin), my gynae said it helps to thin the blood so that blood circulation to the womb is easier therefore help in baby's growth. Sometimes it helps with the BP issue.

Hi,
may I know what was the doctor's advice and treatment? I read online that must cut down on salt...e.g. no fastfood...

I am 44, and have been taking cardiprin (low dose aspirin) right from the beginning of my current pregnancy perhaps due to my age (higher risk) and also in my previous pregnancy, I had pre-eclampsia then but only in 3rd trimester late stage...

Despite the aspirin, now only into my 15 weeks, I have abnormally high BP readings today, > 130 and > 140! So early BP so high oredi! Though my protein readings from urine analysis seems normal.

My doc at WC Cheng (TMC) recommended me to continue my pregnancy journey with Dr TC Chang at same place, who specialises in high risk pregnancies. Will be seeing TC Chang in a week's time. Now quite worried...

I believe TC Chang is a good choice....he is recommended by my current doc...I will be continuing with TC Chang due to my age and high BP readings. Read up a bit, he specializes in high risk pregnancies (https://www.thomsonmedical.com/doctor/dr-chang-tou-choong/). But I think he will be expensive ... you can search the forums for some of his reviews...

Hi! TC Chang does do gynae package though I didn't take - stupid of me. Delivery fees info is sensitive I can PM u but I think it could vary case by case.
