IUI/SO-IUI/IVF.. LET'S SHARE AND BFP TOGETHER!!!

Hi ladies, this is so strange. Bleeding seems to stop... Normal?!? Hopefully the bleeding will stop from now n pls let it be positive when i do bt on Thursday! pray hard...

Oh my... this is really make me crazy... 1 moment i thought might be good news as I've brown discharge earlier this week. Then from 1 drop of blood to yesterday seems to have 1st day menses flow. Today no more bleeding... OMG... when do pregnancy test kit, it's bfn. Everything seems haywire...

Be patient and try not speculate too much. I know it's hard:) Since its bfn just wait till Thur and hope for the best.

Thanks. I'll try not to worry too much. Just that Tuesday is my company big event, will b v busy tomorrow. Also worried will i be perform well on Tuesday. Plus the result now is... Arrgg... just dunno how to calm down. I've been trying watch my favorite Korean show but... cool cool...

Hi everyone.. I'm feeling very restless.. 15dpiui on my 3rd iui. ;( trying not to test until another 3 days.)

This time I had 3 follicles before iui.. 23, 20 and 18mm. And lining was 9mm.

So far not much symptoms, except slight bloating.

I just got spotting, so looks like AF will be here anytime. And that's it for my iui journey .. So sian. Feeling very blue as well.

I'm thinking of taking a month's break from tccing but time is not on my side. ;(

So blur blur what is your next plan?

Sorry, what does tcc mean?
I'm currently tiao my body w my mil's chinese doctor. Hopefully can start my 1st ivf next month or Oct.
Now everything depends how fast my boss able to get new person to join us. I would need to train the new person for abt 1 month b4 I can be away for 1month to rest during ivf 2ww. Lucky me, still got my 2 bosses support. Phew...

Ops wrong spelling.. I mean ttc (trying to conceive).

You're lucky as least your bosses are supportive. I'm not very sure if my boss would be. I'm doubtful I could be away from work if I go for ivf. My boss prob will understand I guess but she is is ambitious cheong type of boss so I think she might not be 100 percent supportive. Means even if I'm away, I'm still expected to deliver the work when I come back.. (Which is equally stressful) .. But see how first Lo.. I'm taking a month rest first. Then maybe another iui.. Thinking of ivf in sgh or kkh.

My boss also the cheong type, so I'll try to work at certain timing from home during 2ww. I think at least no need to walk abt, carrying stuff n should be less stressful bah... Maybe the chances will b higher... (dreaming)
But seriously dunno how well my body can cope w ivf. My body didn't react v well during my last iui. Got cramps, body ache, can't climb stair or stand for too long (less than 10min) else feel v giddy. I also have rashes on my knee, hand n body.

I also had some effects from the iui and had to take leave as well..;( not many leave left. Am also worried how I would survive the ivf journey too. But perhaps one step at a time. Anyone had any idea what is the waiting time for ivf at sgh and kk ?

Hmm.. Anyone going for SO-IUI with KKH this month.. Or have just done so..? Looking for a cycle buddy as this is my 1st time - if I don't back out last min.. Any advice from anyone on what to expect / prepare / to ask ? TIA!

Hi kitty, I'm currently with KKH so can't advise on waiting time for SGH. Waiting time for me was about 2 to 3 months before I started my 1st fresh. Coz you need to book 1st appointment to see doc first to access your condition before they refer you to kkhivf centre for follow up. Btw I was also seeing dr Charles lim previously but I failed all 3 plan b. prior to that I was doing 4 rounds of iui/so-iui with another doc but also failed so finally moved on to ivf but also failed my 1st fresh last mth. Moving on to FET in oct. but I always remember what dr lim says...the trick is to keep trying and trying. So yeah....I'm still trying hard. In case u really decide to move on to ivf, do remember to get all your records from dr lim. It's foc & he will also write a memo for your ivf doc to follow up from there. HTHs!

So happy to come across this forum and feel that i am not alone. Would like to know anyone aged 39 yrs has tried IVF and succesful. I am 39 and will be starting IVF journey this week. Very stressed and sad. Any adv is greatly appreciated. What should i take so that IVF should succeed? After IVF, how many days do u all take? Ok to go work 2-3 days later as i am worried that if i stay at home i will think about IVF. Thank you and appreciate your adv pls.

@aquamarine in a way you can say so. Because fertilise eggs will develop and divide themselves day by day from 2 cell to 4 cell to 8 cell and continue to blasts. Many eggs will not develop themselves and if they don't they "died" so not possible they will implant. Once fertilised they start dividing and doc usually do a d3 transfer hoping they will continue to grow and divide inside womb condition. Some feel womb is a better place for them to grow. Some might feel lab is a better place to c whether they do progress to d5 because if it doesn't progress even transfer in at d3 they would stop growing at d4. So for those blasts which has survive 5 days outside lab they are believe to be stronger and "active" so once transfer in they can continue the next stage hatch and implant. So it's really a risk and you must really have lots of eggs to be able to cultivate. For mine case I got 24 eggs fertilised but at d5 only 10 left so some doc in their view they feel I have wasted 14 eggs. Those 14 eggs if transfer in at d3 to my womb may survive and continue to grow but some doc may feel those 14 eggs if cannot survive in lab cannot survive in womb too.

How to get many eggs? because i am gg for IFV this week as my IUI failed. During my IUI i only had 2 big eggs but unfortunately failed. I also read that egg whites are good - are we supposed to fry the egg whites? What to eat to have more eggs as i really hope that this round can be successful. I am 39 - is it bc i am too old...... stressed...

hi pearl 18, I also don't know why my 1st ivf resulted in so many eggs but probably also during my iui doc trial 2x medicine dosage on me so probably know what injection or dose I am suitable so during my 1st ivf he gave me stronger dosage maybe that's why able to stimulate a lot follicles and happen the follicles grow big and inside have eggs. I also didn do much during the injection days of ivf except went acupuncture at raffles hospital but was kinda last min so only manage to do 2-3times acu just before retrieval. after the ivf transfer you can eat hardboil egg whites. usually I took 2 daily (proteins) and drink red bean soup occasionally and red dates with wolfberries tea. brazil nuts suppose to help with implantation but don't have to eat too much (4-5seeds daily will do)

Hi Pearl

Consultation is free. Acupuncture is bet $20-$30 for abt 30-40mins

Medicine is bet $6-$10 per day.

So usually for one couple that does acunpunture n take a wk medicine is abt $172.

Hope this is useful..

Oh I forgot to mentioned that her medicine doesn't required any boiling. Just mix w hot water n drink. She doesn't speak fluent English nor understand English v well. But her assistant can do the translation n understand English.

Hello @angeleeyore IMHO, there’s no “the best” place to do IUI as I guess it’s very subjective. The best is that you can do some research and shortlist the fertility specialists. The last SO-IUI I did was with Dr Charles Lim at Mt E after some research on him. Unfortunately, I didn’t succeed under his hands. However my friend strike with twins in her 1st SO-IUI attempt. There’s a thread on him in this forum so you can check it out. His success rate is quite high. I also had other several IUI/So-IUI attempts with another gyne whom is a fertility associate with CARE but no luck with him as well. I'm now with Dr Tan HH at KKH doing IVF. Hopefully can succeed soon....

Hi milogal88 thanks for ur reply
i did some research but there are too many ferlilty specialists so abit confuse. what is the price for SO-IUI at Mt E?
Good Luck to u.. =)

Hi ladies

Hi angeleeyore - another poin you may want to consider would be the cost. I did my first IUI in Thomson Medical but i need to pay everythin with cash. I cannot use Medisave. Second time IUI i did at KK and everything was deducted from Medisave. I did not fork out a singl cent. You may consider this as a factor in shortlisting your specialist. Good Luck.

Thanks babe! Hopefully I can really strike with my FET this month.

If my memory didn't fail me, it's about S$3K+ for 1 SO-IUI cycle. Procedure itself is $1.2K (excludes medications; injections; consultation). Sperm washing is about $200 paid directly at the lab in Mt E. If it's just IUI should be cheaper coz you'll be given clomid only and then bd once you've O which they will monitor closely for you. No procedure to be done. You can check with the ladies in Dr Lim's thread coz mine is based on last year's records.

Milogal88 Mt E can deduct from medisave?
IUI or SO-IUI doctor will decide which to do? Or we can choose?

I cannot be certain if Medisave can be deducted or not but I do have a vague memory the nurse asking me before. But we didn't use it coz there's a total cap on the usage on medisave for ACP procedures thus we decide to pay all in cash instead and keep it for subsequent IVF treatments which is more costly. You can refer link below. But do note that this is different from govt co-funding for ART procedures I.e. IVF which must be done in public hospital in order to get the grant.

@Pearl-18 , maybe you could share with us if using medisave for iui is equivalent to the 1st cycle cap at $6k in your medisave being used up?

As for iui or so-iui, doc will discuss with you on the options & appropriate treatment after all the required tests are done.

Hi i did my first iui at Thomson medical. Spend around 3-4 k bc cannot use medisave. Thomson said it is private. It was unsuccessful. I tried kk n did iui. There was a cap of 6k something like tat but since i did once i m able to claim n did not pay cash. Now ivf also medisave but tey told me tat we still need to top up some cash but dun knw how much. Wat u cn di is to call hospital n chk before making any decisions.

Hi everyone,
It's really encouraging to hear some of your success stories. Hoping to get some support and advice here :)

I'm 32 years old and HB 35 years old. I've been undergoing fertility checks/treatment as a subsidised patient at NUH since May'14. We've been TTC for about 2 years and I suspected I might have some problems conceiving. Reason being my periods have been rather irregular (average 40 days to 55 days+ cycles). When I was a teenager, was dieting and exercising a lot as I was a fat kid, so went to the other extreme. Basically when I lost a lot of weight and was very thin, my periods disappeared. Eventually my parents brought me to a gynae and I was put on birth control pills I think? To regulate and jump start my periods.
Ever since then my periods have been very inconsistent and irregular.
So far, since the checks at NUH since May- the results seems to point at unexplained fertility and possibly no ovulation.
Checks took really quite long before I could even start clomid! From May till August. Do you guys have the same experience? And I must say it's quite frustrating as we can't choose the doc as a subsidised patient - so I've experienced having to bring every nurse and diff doctor I see- up to speed on my case each time I can. The treatment so far I feel is quite 'hands off'.
So far been on 3 cycles of clomid and the results aren't so satisfactory.
1st cycle 50mg - only had 2 follicles that didn't seem to grow beyond 12mm. Period only came after 40 days+ and had to take a period inducing pill.
2nd cycle- dosage increased to 100mg. Had one follicle 17.5mm and cos I told them I wanted to do IUI, was told that I'm 'responding' to clomid. Given trigger shot (ovideral?) but in the end didn't proceed with IUI cos hubby's sperm during washing showed high white blood cell count due to infection :(

3rd cycle- 100mg again. Despite telling the docs that I want to do IUI, I was told to do HSG test suddenly. I was asking how come this HSG test wasn't ordered during the 3 months of testing where I wasn't started on clomid yet? They just said different doctors got different protocol.
So basically, I was taking my clomid already and called to do HSG. Nurse then told me can't do HSG and IUI in the same cycle. Something which I totally wasn't told at all previously. I didn't want to waste this clomid cycle so decided to just try and monitor for ovulation.
Unfortunately now it's my CD18 and follicles aren't growing beyond 12 mm. In fact, apparently shrunk :(

Am not sure if any of you girls had similar experience and care to share what you did as a next step?
The doctor I'm seeing- seems to just suggest trying a higher dosage of clomid. I'm not too keen on that cos I believe too high dosage not only causes more side effects (like mood swings etc) but also thins the lining and I feel my CM is quite dry already.

So I'm considering injectibles IUI. But was told that it's best not to increase to 150mg clomid and add in FSH injections.. Am at a loss of what to do and I feel I have to prompt the docs there and decide what I want based on my research...
Now am just waiting for AF to come and then do HSG test then consultation again to see what to do next.

Did u see a normal gynae or a fertility dr? A fertility expert will be a better person to diagnose and give u suggestion. HSG test is to see if your tubes are block. What u are concern now is also your follies sizes not growing. If they don't mature and ovulate there is no conception. Clomid cannot take for more than 6 cycles it will thin your lining. I suggest u change to a experience fertility dr

Janch I'm not comfortable with your current doc as to me, standard protocol for fertility checks is Hsg, prior to clomid or iui of ivf etc. It should not be "oh you still don't get bfp after 3 treatments then maybe lets try to fit you in for Hsg". Hsg to me is important before everything else. I have a friend who just failed an IUI and then her doc asked her to do Hsg and both tubes are 100% blocked. What a waste of time on the IUI. I mean not that unblocked tubes guarantee success but they being blocked, the chance is just zero.

Get a 2nd opinion?

Well- it's under the sub fertility clinic so I'd say both?
Yes I read that Clomid has the lining thinning effect, that's why I'm now taking a break from it- wait for next cycle and then go for HSG test to see if tubes are blocked. The thing is, even as subsidised the costs so far are quite substantial already. Test here and there and actually the clomid pills itself is only 2.50 or something!
So HB and I will try this out for awhile more, just wondering if anyone out there has either recommended doctors or have same experience as me- slow growing follicles on clomid?

Janch - I'm surprised your doc didn't order HSG before you did your IUI. I was told that that is an important step before IUI because if tubes are blocked, iui is not even a consideration. Checking now after 3 unsuccessful attempts at iui is like making a huge u-turn. Maybe you might want to check out KKH? Not sure if there's an issue with the SOP at NUH itself or the doc at NUH.... I was referred to KKH and they did a whole series of tests first including HSG before they determined that my husband and I have unexplained infertility (both no issues) and should proceed with iui. The entire process didn't take long, even though I'm a subsidized patient. We only started gg to KKH late Sept and now we are already on our first so-iui cycle. Going for scan tmr after 5 days of FSH injections at 50mg. *fingers crossed*
