Dear mummies,

My 10 mth old gal is having Torticollis. I've only spotted when she was 5 mth old. As soon as I found out, I went thru physio therapist at TMC referred by PD and doing neck exercise instructed by therapist and follow up.But, no significant improvement. Then, went to KK and a couple of time of follow up. Still no improvement.
What should I do? I'm so hopeless.. Any experienced mummy for this infant torticollis?? Can share me any effective treatment for this? I feel very bad and sad whenever I see my gal. TIA..
PS: now, my gal is rejecting a lot when we do her neck exercise cos she grow up and know well. I understand that this torticollis can treat faster if we spot the problem earlier.

Hi Isabellehtun

My baby daughter who is now 6 mths, was born with torticollis. We were lucky enough that the ped that attended to her when she was born spotted it immediately. It was pretty obvious that she had limited control of her head. We were immediately referred to a physio and saw her at Day 5. We had daily exercises to be done, stretching and even had to carry her in different ways. My daughter had recently been discharged, and dont need to go back. Yippee!

My daughter's physi is Serena Kwa at Kids Focus, located at Sixth Ave. Charges are $180 per session.

Good luck!

thanks alot, dear pixy:)
gald that ur daughter is recovered fast.how lucky you are!! Yup, if we find out earlier, we can fix well in shorter time.
wow.. the charges are pricy.. dun no how many sessions we need to go n the problem is we really can't force her do daily exercises. Sighhhh.. :(:(

I heard some mommies try Tui Na message for infant torticollis. Anyone care to share which TCM should i go? Thanks alot..

Hi Isabellhtun

As babies grow, they are aware of the different exercises that u are doing with them. So you will need a larger selection of exercises that target the same thing.

I am so grateful to my PD and this physio! Consider trying them out. Better to have someone good to help your baby and quickly.

BTW: i used baby bonus to pay for the fees. And money can earn back again.

Hi, my baby is born with SCM (sternocleidomastoid) tumor at his neck.. i think most people referred it to Torticollis here. It is not cancerous but just a muscle growth. It feels like a lump and it is visible when he turn his neck to one side.

I found out this when he was about 2 weeks old. we went to private PD, she referred us to KKH a & e for ultrasound. From A & E, we were being referred to KKH children surgery and they referred us to physiotherapy. The doctor said clinical diagnosis was suffice, no need for ultrasound.

After 6 weeks of physiotherapy, there was not much improvement according to the therapist so she decided to escalate the case. We had a follow up with the children specialist on the 5th week but the doctor didn't said anything and just referred us to KKH Orthopaedic dept.

i just had an appointment with orthopaedic and they finally going to schedule a ultrasound for my son after 2 months + since we first seek treatment for SCM tumor. if no improvement, there might be a need for surgery after he is 6th month old. It would be low risk surgery according to Doc.

I found out that this orthopaedic dept specialises in ankle and foot, I'm really not sure whether it is effective to follow up in this dept.

My son cried a lot when we were doing stretching for him. :< my i feel so sad when i see him cried till no sound. He can't really reject the stretching, he is going to be 3 months old...

Any mummy who also has infant with SCM tumor / torticollis care to share their experiences and treatment too?
