High NT measurement after FTS

Hi all,

I am 32 and recently did my FTS at Thomson Novena, the results came back Super bad with NT measurement at 4.8mm with risk assessment 1:11. Our gynae has advised the imaging centre to not proceed with blood test and I am now booked with a specialist to do further diagnosis, maybe CVS or amnio as I am told. I’m crying nonstop after hearing this news and am a little overloaded with information from googling:(

just wanted to check with you mummies out there, if you had any similar experiences and how the CVS and amnio process is like.

I am sorry to hear that, please remain hopeful and positive during this period. I am 34 and did amniocentesis at KKH 2 weeks ago as my baby has a NT measurement of 3.5mm and down syndrome probability is 1:6. Although amnio is an invasive procedure but it is pretty safe in my opinion as only senior doctors who are certified for the procedure can perform it for mummies. Amnio can only be done at 16 weeks so you may need to wait until then to do the test. I am not familiar with CVS, perhaps can check with your doctor. By the way, FTS is a screening test, it is not a diagnostic test like amnio and CVS which will give you a confirmed answer of your baby condition. Just be patient to wait for the diagnostic test and have faith in your baby. Good luck to you.

Like what Rosanne said, please stay positive. I'm 36 and last December i got result that my baby's NT is 3.1mm and has a 1:4 risk of down syndrome. Since we want to find out soon, we decided to go with CVS at TMC. It is quite safe as long as you choose an experienced doctor.

The procedure was quite fast. You can have someone to accompany you there, but they have to wait outside once they start doing the CVS. Just remember to rest a lot after that.

After that you have to wait for the result for 2 weeks, or pay extra to have the early (not very detailed) result. We also pay extra to do CMA, a more detailed genetic scan. Everything came back normal, we've also done our detailed 20th week scan and it came out okay. Now we're hoping her delivery on June will be smooth as well.

I don't know what's in store for you, but please don't lose hope. Decide what's best for you and your partner. Let me know if you need more info.

I'm 37 years old, today at 13W2D of pregnancy. For my FTS, i had my blood drawn in my week 9 and done the ultrasound scan yesterday at KK, result shows through blood test, my risk of down syndrome is 1:6, but the NT measurement is 2.2 which is normal. So yesterday after discussion with my husband, i went for another blood test for NIPT since doctor said it can be done immediately yesterday while Amnio need to wait till week 16. We will see how's the result during next visit to Kk, if still high risk then will go for Amnio.

Just my opinion. I always heard and read thru many forums that FTS always giving false positive result, so me and my wife was decided to do the NIPT straight (about $1050) instead taking FTS ($480 coz she is foreigner). Some ppl dont take FTS and just take NIPT straight is becoz they dont want to have unnecessary anxiety when received the "false result".
Understand that if we only do the NIPT, then we will not know the NT scan result unless we pay for the $480 also to do both NIPT and FTS.
Why me and my wife skip the NT scan (coz it still charged $480 as it is a package in FTS) coz we understand that when come to wk 20, our little one must go thru the Full detail scan, by then we will know the everything too (more detail than NT scan).
Thanks god our little one is growing healthy as of now , wifey on her wk 30 pregnancy.

And hope you all the little one passed the NIPT and congrats on yours pregnancy too. Cheers.

Hi All,

Thank you for your encouragement and responses!

In the end, we went for CVS and microarray last Monday. CVS results just came back and the karyotyping did not detect any abnormalities with the 46 chromosomes! We are really so relieved and happy!

Now waiting for the microarray results...
