Glenn Doman Flash Card Users Corner

Yes, the original GD kits are really expensive. There're alternatives around..you can look at the archive of this thread and consider some of the recommended alternatives.

I'm a cheapo mom..I DIY and I find that it's good enough. Just have to pay for the paper and marker (for the reading program), which will cost abt $60 for 600 blank cards.

Hope this helps

Hello mummies

i am very new to this thread. Just know about this Gd method and would like to know more about it.
What exactly is this program? is there a school for this program? Or we have to implement it our self? Them how do i learn how to teach my newborn? i have totally no clue baout this but it seem interesting and would like to incorporate in my teaching.

Can u mummies help me with all my questions? thank you u so so much...

Hi Valerie,

There're a few GD programs - mainly the reading, math, encyclopedic and physical programs, I think. The programs are based on the idea that young babies can read, do math, etc if they're taught in a certain way.

The programs encourage moms to be the teacher, so there's no school per se. You'll learn how to teach your baby simply by reading the book, and preparing/ purchasing the materials. And then off you go!

As a start, I encourage you to pick up the book and read it, and decide for yourself whether you're for or against the program. GD advocates starting with the reading program. You can either borrow the book "How to teach your baby to read" from the library, or just buy it from the book store.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to answer..I'm also pretty new to this, but I do have great interest in this

Hi,
Can someone advise on the card size we should use for newborns based on the book 'How smart is your baby'? Is it 11' by 11'?

What about the contents? How big should it be?

Thanks.

Hi happymrskoh,

in the book you mentioned, there're 3 types of stimulation stated in the book, namely bits of intelligence (BOI), dots (for math) and reading . Which one are you referring to?

For BOI and math, the size of the card is 11" x 11". For reading, the size is 6" x 22" and each letter should be 5"(H) x 4"(W).

Hope this helps

hi mummies, can see that everyone is excited about the reading program. i have already started it for a week.
But i am actually very keen to do the reading program together with the encyclopaedic knowledge (aka bits of intelligence?)
is anyone doing that? i have not got any picture flashcards and can't decide whether do it myself or find other sources. the picture flashcards in the bookstores are definitely not the size recommended by GD program. any comments on not using the recommnended size?

Hi Mummies, I've browsed through the thread and am really interested in the GD program. Problem is my girl is already 8 mths old. Am I too late to start? Can anyone share with me on the program, how to DIY and send me the list on Eng & Chinese words. Much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Charlene,

8 mths old is certainly not too late to start. The challenge you'll probably face is your baby is more mobile now, so she may be more interested in moving around than to read

Nevertheless, GD's book does provide a guide on how to start the program based on your baby's age.

If you're interested in the program, you should read the book first. Sorry, no shortcut about it!

Yin is the "official" list provider in this thread. If she hasn't sent you the list yet, I can send to you, based on what she sent me earlier. Just pm me your email address.

Cheers.

Purchased the GD books from acma right after reading this thread. hehe.

library's waiting list is too long. acma is having 27% disc for christmas if you buy >4 books and free delivery.

I would like to comment that I've been teaching my baby to read with flashcards.
First I started making myself the flashcards, but it was a laborious and hard work. Then I discobered the babybit DVDs and it was a relief.

This DVDs are a bit expensives but they have a lot of flashcards packed inside. I think they are the cheapest if you think in terms of price per flashcard.

go to www.babybit.com site for more info.

Hi Yin
Really appreciate u for sending the list!

Btw, does anyone find the short sentences in Chinese list weird? Seem like translated Chinese to me?? Some just don sound quite right.

How is everyone's progress so far?

I had been working with my girl with home-made cards & off-the shelves ones since she is 13mth.
Didnt flash at fast speed as she likes to admire the cards but she is learning well so far.

She is speaking & reading short sentences at 21mth. Hadnt put in much efort for the Math program, so she just learnt her numerals 1-20+.
