Hi Mummies,

Would like to check if there is any mummies here who had delivered with Dr Kelly Loi of Mount Elizabeth.
Any comments on her and also what is her delivery charges.
I'm in my 28 week and was told that as their package starts at 20 week, I'm kinda late for the package.
Checked their package and it's kinda on the high end @ $2280.
Thus would like to check what is her delivery charges to avoid shockingness after delivery.

TIA

Hi Vianjul,

I'm going to be delivering with Dr. Kelly in March. She only delivers at Mount Elizabeth, and there are 2 different kinds of fees.

1) Doctor's fee, which is what the clinic or Dr. Kelly will charge. On the low end it is $2,800 for normal vaginal delivery. If you have an assisted delivery, are getting a c-section (emergency or planned), receiving epidural or have any complications the fee will be higher. C-section Doctor's fee is up to $6,000. (There's also doctor's labour management fees around $400 per day, doctor's post delivery inpatient management fee around $300 per day) Epidural is +$850, emergency c-section +$500)

2) Hospital fee. Dr. Kelly only delivers at Mount Elizabeth Orchard. They have double, single and suites. Cheapest package is double room/vaginal no epidural delivery is $2,880. If you end up with an emergency c-section, with a double room at Mount E Orchard it will cost roughly $5,600.

Also if you're at 28 weeks, Dr. Kelly will expect check-ups every 2 weeks and then every week when you reach around 34-35 weeks. So that's at least another 9 visits with her until you give birth. Expect each visit to cost around $200 with the doctor's fee, ultrasound, and vitamins etc. I don't think there's an option to "opt out" for any of those items.

You're looking at a bare minimum of roughly $7,500, assuming vaginal, unassisted, no epidural delivery.

That being said, though it's at a higher end, if your insurance covers it, I would 100% recommend Dr. Kelly and Mount Elizabeth hospital. They are very professional, have very nice facilities, and everything is top notch there. Mount E also has a lactation specialist available for after you give birth. You can schedule for a free tour there to check it out now, and also a free antenatal class if you do decide to register to give birth there.

Hope that helps!

Hi Arielslove,

I want to see Dr Kelly Loi for my delivery and I too am in my 28th week. What happens though if I skip the check ups every 2 weeks and u/s and so on. Its not only too expensive for me as I'm not covered, but I'm also not sure if I want to be looked at every now and again.

Would Dr Loi not take up delivery if I didn't go through the visits/scans?

Also, does the $2800 fee include the Dr's fees too or just the vaginal, double room?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Zinnia,

I'm not sure what happens if you skip the appointments, but regardless of what doctor you choose, I would highly recommend that you don't miss any of these appointments. The 3rd trimester appointments are especially important since the baby could be born soon. During each of these checkups, position/size/heart rate of the baby is checked. Position and size will determine whether you can deliver vaginally or it needs to be a C-section. If for any reason the heart rate drops or is abnormal, you will be scheduled for an emergency c-section as soon as the next day (it could be reasons such as the umbilical cord suffocating the baby, or placenta complications).

That being said, I'm not sure about whether Dr.Loi would deliver you or not if you didn't go through with visits and scans. The best would be to call them and ask the nurses to advise you.

I'm currently 32 weeks, and I've already registered for my delivery room at Mount Elizabeth. In order to do that, you'll need these documents:
1) Doctor's Admission Letter: this is written up by Dr. Loi, it details your blood lab work results (12 weeks & 28 weeks blood health and glucose test), drug allergies, whether or not you're diabetic, any complications, and whether you are being admitted for vaginal or c-sec delivery. This form also requires the hospital to notify her when you get admitted so she will be at your labor ward during delivery.

2) Doctor's financial counselling form: this is a form you need to sign to acknowledge that you know how much you potentially will need to pay to Dr.Loi. (What I listed above, Doctor's fee for delivery, labor management fee, post delivery inpatient management fees, anaesthetist fees, any other fees such as emergency surgery or complications). Hospital fees to Mount Elizabeth is mentioned on the form as separate, please consult with Mount Elizabeth hospital.

So you can see how without regular visits, Dr.Loi might not be able to issue the admission letter, which means you won't be able to get admitted into Mount Elizabeth, and she won't be notified when you do.

To your last question:
  • $2800 Doctor's fee goes to Dr. Loi
  • $2880 room fee (double room/vaginal delivery) goes to Mount Elizabeth Hospital
So these are separate.

Delivery bare minimum all things included is $7,500, assuming without complication and that you get to deliver vaginally.

Hope this helps!

Hi there. I'm almost due too. So far my experience with Kelly Loi has been good...but thats also because I didn't see any other doc since I moved here in Aug 2018. Hope the delivery goes fine at Mt Elizabeth. Keeping fingers crossed!

Hihi, yes my experience with her so far is good. Though it was recommended by my previous gynae as he's too old to do delivery. But Kelly seems nice and always smiley. Every week will check on baby condition. My friend gynae at NUH don't do that everytime. Her charges not cheap but as long as she's good I think is all worth it. Wish you have a smooth delivery.
