B2B3M4 & the rest of Mummies here,
I dont think I can bring my kids to the RC since most of it involve meetings...Furthermore, e RC do not know of my motive to join them. Its just too time consuming for me as a FTWM... since gt other daily task lists. like coaching e kids, spending time w them, housework etc. Hiaz! Btw, e sch I am intending to send my boy to is a SAP school which means higher Chi. I am reali holding back coz his Chi is no gd at all. I am worried he cnt cope with the Chi standard.

Oh, for those sch whoch needs balloting, does it mean that both phase 2b n 2c share equal chance?? Pls advise... If I do my PV as parent volunteer n stay within 1 km, does it mean that I have high chances even though it requires balloting.

hi mummies, do any mummies here can share how do you prepare our kids b4 entering P1? Do you let them do any assessment books now?

Can anyone share their experince? I am quite stress up as what I need to do now as my son will be in P1 next yr.

Ocean,
I only think of the affiliated secondary school...no more than that.

KrnKrn,
I'm putting my daughter in CHIJ TP...my former school.

Sheryl,
My son is in a SAP school...uses Higher Chinese. When he was in P1, I focused a lot more time on HCL, then realized his English grammar/vocab needs attention too. Not to worry, he should be able to cope.

If you qualify and complete 40 hours as PV, you will be under Phase 2B. Staying within 1km will have higher chance but no guarantee.

Hi jojo,
I send my daughter to neighbourhood RC because her kindy teacher told me she wasn't prepared for spelling last term and also can't remember her alphabets.

As for assessment books, I did get some for her to do. Like Grammar/Vocab/Maths from EPH publisher and Learners at Popular. Hubby bought several books from Bookfest last Nov.

Janet,I didn't get selected for PV...so nw thinking if I shld continue my volunteer at RC.weighing the pros n cons.I drag myself to e meetings daily n miss out bonding time w e kids.any gd schs in tpy n woodlands area?

Sheryl,
It's really tough on you...having to attend daily RC meetings and lose out on bonding time with the kids.

There is Pei Chun, St Andrew's Junior in Toa Payoh. Not too sure about Woodlands. Have you thought of registering your son in a school within 1 or 1-2km of your home ?
How long do you have to volunteer your service at RC ?

hi mummies,
can anyone highlight me which phase will the child be in if parents are grassroots leader.
thanks

Dear All,

The results are out. Here's the remaining seats available after Phase 2A1.

Janet
I erase my son's handwritting, he goes into a mad state - real mad (throw tantrum, cry, scream, push me). After the madness he juz close his eyes n push the book away. Sigh.... He allows me to erase when he is in gd mood
Do u mean your son's Pr school teacher or K2 teacher punish him?

Janet, Ocean
My colleague moved to a plc where there r pr school wif affiliation to sec school for her boy and girl. Both of them in different school. She advised me to select pr school wif affiliation but not many pr school has affiliation to sec school. Headache to think so much

Ocean
Thanks for posting the website
53% of school of my choice is filled up in phase 1

Do u mummies/daddies think it is better to register on the 1st day or 2nd day? Is there any impact on the chance of getting into the school?

thanks b2b3m4.
my hb is an RC member.

then what about those stying within 1km, is under which phase?
and those looking after by the grandparents, is again under which phase?

sorri for askng so much, preparing myself for next yr. :p

Hoho
Within 1km is phase 2c
http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/phases/

If u wanna use grandparents' add to register for P1, u need to make Statutory declarations

If statutory declaration is used, children who are registered using the grandparent’s or parent’s sibling’s address and residing within 1 km or between 1 km and 2 km of the school of choice are balloted together with other children residing between 1 km and 2 km

hi foreverfriends,
so being RC member is better la, 1 phase higher. hee.

what about RC + Statutory declarations, would it increase the chances? :p

Janet, I think hve to join for a yr.

Hoho, care to share yr hubby's experience as a RC member?? Hw often r his RC activities & wat does he do?

MOE states that old gals/boys have to join alumni 1 year b4 registration. Missed it, but looking at vacancies avail for Phase 2A2, should be able to sleep well.

sheryl, Janet,
1 year of RC is counted from the time u are a executive member in the RC and not from the time u signed up. So if u are aiming to register under phase 2B for next year, u MUST be in the committee now. If u are not in the executive committee, one just remains as an observer and is not eligible for phase 2b benefits.

hobo,
parents statutory only comes in place in terms of promixity to the school. Supposedly balloting is required in phase 2b, then u stand a higher chance than parents who stay outside 2km. However if balloting is not required in phase 2b, the declaration do not make a differences to your chances.

hi sheryl,
basically my hb attend mtgs, organise events, help out in the events, support the MP during house visit.

He is a member for nearly 7yrs already. hee..

Its fun la!
Nowadays, my ger do follow him for mtgs. And we support those events and treat them as family outing. :p

I am sure many must be thinking no time to attend mtgs, but i guess since it is voluntary, as long as you lend a helping hands, they will be grateful.
happy.gif

In times, if MP help is needed, you can be sure he knows you, and help you write letters, maybe to the school you want to enrol..OOPS! hahaha. Just Jokng!

Phew! happy to hear that RC member is phase 2b, but think i also get my MIL to make Statutory declarations.

Hobo,
I know what u mean. It can be quite a handful when hb attends such meetings and leave me with the 3 kids. So, sometimes he does bring 1 child along to do door to door sales for ticket events. Maybe symapathy points bah, he tends to sell more tickets if he brings a child along. There are nasty residents who complains non stop, but there are nice ones who offer my ger drinks and food too. There is a down side that lots of time taken up for such meetings, preparations etc. However, its good for the kids too. They know the neighbours and neighbourhood better since we usually attend such RC events. Make them more down to earth and appreciate liitle things in life rather than computer games, shopping and wanting more new things.

AS to getting MP to help in entering schools, i would say, very difficult lah, unless u are the MP.

b2b3m4,
my hb told me, some residents do get MP to help write letters.haha
maybe thats in donkey yrs ago. :p

i think can ask ur hb to bring one of the kids to attend mtg, should not b a pbm.

ya sometime i get annoyed when he needs to attend RC & CCC mtgs! OMG man, leave me with the kids.
i not bath, he gotto rush out liao. haha

so usually he will inform me 1day bef the mtgs, then we will rush home earlier, so tt i can prepare myself.. haha

principal mentioned during one of our meeting that getting MPs to write letters - absolutely no use as far as P1 registration is concerned. Apparantly, popular schools received lots of MP letters
lol.gif

Janet
U v cute, monitoring the MOE website like a hawk

Err.... how to tell if a child is accepted fm the website u provided for results of the registration?

You can ring the sch anytime to get an update on the no. of applicants. Most parents will visit the sch in the afternoon of the last day of application to see if their kids got the place. After the closing time, the sch admin will announce if balloting needed for what distance & no. of seats over-subscribed.

FYI - Although the sch claims no First-come-first-serve rule, some sch will discourage you to submit your applications if all their vacancies are filled up nicely so no need to do the extra balloting work. Also, they don't wish the parents to waste their chances on them if they've other options as ballot offers no guarantee. That's why you'll see some popular sch somehow manage to have just nice same no. of applicants equals to vacancies. Suggest that you submit your application on Day 1.

It's always better to choose a sch with affiliations so you don't have to crack your head 6yrs later. At least, you can be assured of the same expected sch standard/environment for your child for the next 10yrs.

Foreverfriends Honey,
My gal is under Phase 2A2...I was told many times it is is sure-in.

For eg CHIJ TP, if you look at the column 'Vacancy for Phase 2A2', you will see 140 places available. Number of children registered on 1st day is 32. Take 140 minus 32, you will have 108 places for 2nd day 2A2 registration. The number 108 places at the end of today +/- will be for split 50/50 for Phase 2B and 2C.

CP,
Agree with you. Submit applications on 1st day to get it done and over with.
Pref choose schools with affiliated sec bcos I can tell you how fast time flies when the child goes to P1. With an affiliated sec school, your child is assured of a place as long as he/she meets minimum criteria. Of course he/she can still go to a better secondary school if PSLE results are > than 260.
10 years no headache.

Janet,

Dear mummies,
any kids going pei chun public school at TPY next year 2011?wanna let the kids meet up? Let me know if u r interested cos my girl will be going pei chun.

Hazel,
U already secured the place liao? so nice...

My school only left with 60 seats when it comes to phase 2C. Hope got less children taking up the phase 2b place.. then at least i have higher chance.. Very stressful... haiz..

Hi all,

I just want to ask your opinion on the move that tis yr on, Singaporeans will get 2 ballot slips.

Do you really think that there are indeed many PRs vying for places in the schools with us?

I mean, at this point, I do not really see how getting 2 slips are beneficial. Cos i jus thot there wldnt be many PRs and so by giving each Sinagporeans 2 ballot slips, it's just like levelling up the battlefield by one step.

Ocean,
Have you decided whh sch to go for? Sorry to ask so abruptly, but I was reading earlier posts

Hi ocean, yes I can understand how u feel. The intake for pei chun is small hence I was worried too although my hubby was old boy. Hope u can get a place for your child. All the best to you!

Hi bboomer71, we r under 2A2. Do u use fb? If so can add
me. Was upset when my girl asked why she has to go pri
school, must get her ready this few months.

Hi bboomer,
Your son is confirmed in Pei Chun right, since registered under 2A1 (alumni).
My gal is registered in CHIJ TP under Phase 2A2...school rather slow in sending out confirmation letters. I called twice, only to find out the school will send out letters next week when the registration was on 15/7.

Eileen,
You confirmed place for your son already ? Dont mind me asking, which phase did you register him?

soyabean (soyabean),
Am actually looking at Evergreen Pri School. I actually thot that this is jus a normal neighbourhood school and came as a shock when one of the mummies told me have to go thru balloting and asked me to to PV or grassroot. But i noe this too late.
sad.gif
So, now waiting for 2C. The seats left are only 60. I really dun noe how if my gal cant get in, cos this school is really convenient for my mum to fetch/send her.

Sometimes was really thinking how come enrolment to pri school became so stressful...
sad.gif

Eileen,
Congrats. But u r under which phase?

Hazel,
Good that now u can get in the school liao. My gal was opposite from urs. She actually thot she is going to P1 after the June holiday.

Dear all
Btw, not too sure abt the rest, but need to teach basic toilet thingy as in P1, kids mus noe how to go toilet and keep themselve clean after poo.

Hi ocean,
your girl so cute n u have no worries for her going pri school ,)

Oh yes must teach them how to use money to buy food too!

Ocean,
One way to assure yourself is to maybe call the sch and ask if the sch has many PVs. If only a few, then assure yourself that remaining places will go to 2C and you will stand a higher chance.

I know that Evergreen has been popular cos I have been tracking P1 reg for the past couple of yrs. My MIL stays a few blocks from there too, and my hubby even told me b4 (jokingly) that maybe we shld move to stay with her and reg my boy for the sch.

I belong to 2C like you too, so we're all in this together. Let's just give one another support. Btw, I stay in Bukit Panjang, and we're eyeing Greenridge Pri (very environmentally friendly like u :p).

Eileen,
Congrats! ;)

Hello Hazel,
You can send me a private mssg with your email address so that i can contact you on FB. Your acct does not seem to allow PMs. Nice to make a new friend.

There is still half a year to go to prepare your child. Talk positive to your kid and make him feel excited (but not overwhelmed).

Hi Krn Krn,
I was from St. Anthony's but now that it has moved to Bedok, putting my kids there not an option for me.

For info, it's affiliated to SAC Sec. There is a sis primary sch -- Canossa Convent.

Hi Mummies,
I have to teach my gal self-help skills too. She has the impression she is going to P1 right after registering. But will not mention much about P1 preparation.

bboomer,
I thought St Anthony's is at Bukit Batok ?

CP, Janet
Thanks. I checked MOE website. There r 80 vacancies after phase 2A2. So, my son is in

CP
I registered on the 2nd day. I was the last 1 who registered for phase 2A2 in the school
kao_sticktongue.gif

It is ideal to choose school wif affiliation to sec school
Which r the pr school wif affiliation to sec school? How to find out?

Janet
I checked wif GongShang Pr school. They dun send out confirmation. Ask me to check if any vacancy carried over to next phase. If yes, means no balloting and confirmed accepted. They will only send letter to me in Nov for orientation. Anyway, school called me y'dy to ask if my boy is in kindergarten. Din say anything else. So I assume he is accepted

Ocean
Ya right. P1 registration is so stressful. My parents shook head on me. They said y not juz register wif the pr school across the st.

janet, Ocean
Gd dat your gal look forward to going to P1

Ocean, Hazel
Ya right. Hv to teach kids toilet skill, getting seat and buying food in canteen. My mum said bring food fm home till my son can buy food on his own. Now, let him go wif hubby to buy food when we dine at food court

Ya must teach kid to wipe his own backside if not already doing so. As for buying food, am expecting a few laughs. My friend told me her P1 kid brought a dollar to school and a dollar home. But insisted he bought something to eat. Another time he overpaid hee hee.

Hi bboomer71,
Which year ar u? Me in 1980...and my mum in 1956!
Back then, all our uniform was placed from our sis primary sch at Canossa Convent which is now near my office!

Hi Janet,
St Anthony's at Bukit Batok is a mixed sch now. Back then, it is a BOY school in middle road.

Hi ForeverFrds,
Currently my two nephews are in GongShang Pr school. Wan to put my kids there as I used to attend GongShang kindergarten but acc to the sch it is not affil...

Hi Ocean, bboomer71,
As for learning to use toilet, I'm also having issue with my boy. Now he still pulls down shorts/pants to pee. I need the daddy to teach him how to unzip, "take out" his "birdie" and pee. This one I cannot teach man! Cos I dunno... :p

Krn
Hmm... I din know there is Gong Shang Kindergarten. Where is it?
Do u stay in Tampines?

Soyabean
My boy oso pull down pants (1/2 way) to pee coz he wear rubberised pants w/o zip. Even cc shorts oso no zip. Wat I can't stand is he needs to remove his pants out instead of pulling 1/2 way dwn when he poo

Foreverfriends,
yeah... most of the time my boy still wears rubber pants which can be pulled down when peeing. but in pri sch, it will be those metal small buckle, and really need to teach him to pee the proper way soon.

Foreverfrds,
At Outram Road, known as York Hill. During tat times, kindergarten and pri was located there. It was a big plot of land and we have our own mini zoo

For my daughter, I will have to remind her to pull up her pinafore when she goes to the loo...also to sit properly even in an all girls school.
