Is there a difference between before and after school care and day care service?

My son will be going to P1 next year. I will be enrolling him to Gong Shang Pr school in Tampines. Any recommendation of good before and after school care or day care near Gong Shang Pr school?

Star,
Registration exercise will be indicated in the Straits Times. Then you bring necessary documents on the dates mentioned for the phase your child falls under.

Oh no.. i dun read straits times.

I have check the website, but still no news yet. Wonder when will they be releasing the news leh...

If I am not wrong, schools have already given out forms to existing students for their siblings registration under Phase 1.

Those who do not have children in primary sch now, your child childcare/kindergarten will give you the registration details before the end of Term 2.

For MOE website, normally they will start publishing the details end Jun.

Registration for P1 starts early July.

Ocean,
Decided liao...my former school. Not a SAP school, hopefully not so stressful.
SA1 round the corner, I have been rather stressed revising with son of late.

Redrose,
Son's school had given out forms for sibling registration under Phase 1...we have 'signed away' our place and going for my former school. I know many parents want to be PV and get into Pei Hwa but the stress is enough for ME, for 1 kid.

So u choose ur former school? What is SA1? Is it exam? Nowsaday, primary 1 math very difficult leh....
kao_dizzy.gif

Yap, i heard from PCF principal too that registration is in July. They will also be receiving brochur from MOE.

So, i guess i jus wait lor.... cant do much since last yr Aug'09 when the primary school reject my application for PV due to deadline closed. Urghh....

Oceans,
SA1 or semestral assessment is also known as mid-year exam.

Is your school of choice near your home ? I know how you feel about being rejected for PV...I was rejected too but we were still going for same school under 2C.

School syllabus not easy now...my son has Maths exam today, last night hubby was going through with son and although I was in the room throughout, I don't understand what they were talking about.

Janet,
I'm thinking of putting my girl in Pei Hwa cos my hb is old boy of Pei Hwa. But hear you say very stress now i worry as I'm afraid my girl can't cope.

Huingee,
Pei Hwa is stressful bcos it is a SAP school. Kids are trained to be resilient as they move from P1 to upper primary. If your hubby is old boy, then I believe he would want the kids to go there.

Janet,
Oic. I saw my collegues on leave recently to revise the schoool work... Gooddnes me...

The Pri 1 math, i really cant rem how to draw model leh...

Yap, my choice of school was near my place. me looking for convenience, rather than good school. And suay suay, the school is one of the better schools. Haiz...

Ocean,
My hubby took leave on Monday to coach son in Maths, and this afternoon to revise Science with him for 2moro's paper.

Maths today is not easy, I sat in the room for 1 hour and not understand what hubby and son were talking about. Models and this thing called heuristics ??? I can still teach my son Science, Chinese and English but not Maths.

After son's mid-year exams, I have to plan his June schedule regardless of his results. Then register daughter for P1 in July. Endless planning and work to be done...not easy being a parent esp now.

heuristics?
Wow... yap, i think that is the terms used. Btw, i heard that for those with siblings, they have already start registering liao.

Hi mummies

any idea what happen if my child cant get into the school? will they allocate place for her in another school? Tks in advance
happy.gif

Oceans,
For those with siblings in the school, the form was sent out about 3 weeks ago for Phase 1...for the school to tabulate.

XY Gal,
If the child can't get into the school, I think parents will have to look for another school or else MOE will allocate. Hope my info is correct.

Janet
I received the form but the form indicated this is not a registration exercise, purpose is for school's info

XY Gal
after 2C, there's another phrase 2C sup for children who didn't manage to register during 2C

Thanks for the info

Im looking at St Hilda or CHIJ AMK, both within 1km but Im worried for my child as she's very weak in her studies, worried that she may not catch up in sch. Me dun want her to feel so stressful... wondering if it will be better to put her in neighbourhood sch instead, and i heard that these 2 schools every year need to ballot....

Yawn Yawn,
Yup that form is actually meant for the school to have a rough idea how places are taken up at Phase 1. Parents still have to register formally.

XY Gal,
CHIJ St Nicholas (AMK) is a SAP school just like St Hilda (I think) and Ai Tong. My SIL's daughter is at St Nicholas...P5 this year. Heard it's very stressful and poor girl cried in school bcos of the pressure.

OMG!!! dun think my girl shou go to CHIJ then, esp when she cant even catch up with her K2 friends now.... Think may ve to put her in neighbourhood sch.... sigh... being a mum is really tough nowadays. ve to think of this and that....

XY Gal

Just curious hor, how to be within 1km of both schools St Hildas and St Nic ?

If you are planning to use grandparents address, <1km is counted as 1-2km

if using my add, is within 1km for st hilda. my parents' add is within 1km for st nic. u mean if is use my parents' add, it's counted as 1-2km even if it's less than 1km?

Ocean
School look at address to determine distance. I don't recall them asking specifically for father or mother IC. Can call up the school to check with them, just in case need to show both ICs on that day

XY Gal
Yes

St Hilda's produced a top PSLE student in 2007.

XY Gal,
As for using grandparents' add, even if the school is within 1km, the child will be placed under 1-2km.
Both parents need to produce IC on day of registration.

thanks mummies for the info....

Will drop these 2 schools, most probably go for a neighbourhood sch... dun wanna my girl to feel very stressful in gd sch. any recommendations for neighbourhood sch in tampines or amk?
happy.gif

XY Gal,
Maybe I am the kancheong type of mum. B4 CA1/SA1/SA2, I am stressed to the max, not for my son to achieve Band 1 but to try to get Band 2 to maintain his place in the average class.
Schools now are so competitive. Schools in Bukit Batok area try to outdo one other. Same goes for schools in Choa Chu Kang too.

The PSLE scholar from St Hildas used to be from Gong Shan. Her mom did PV for Gong Shan. The girl was subsequently transferred to St Hildas for GEP. So I suppose Gong Shan must be a good 'neighbourhood' school?

Poi Ching is SAP school.

I know all along that SAP and GEP schools are very good, but wat's the difference between SAP and GEP schools huh? am getting very confused with many different terms in school nowadays.... sorry, me very 'sua ku'.... only panic when its time to register girl for P1
happy.gif

XY Gal,
If you ask me, I'm equally blur even though my son is already in P4. SAP school means students take Eng and Higher Chinese as 1st languages.

XY Gal

Actually all the info on MOE website. It's not that confusing but hard to summarise into one paragraph

SAP schools have higher Chinese from P1. GEP schools have a special class for gifted students. Certain schools are both eg. a SAP school and has a class for GEP students

XY Gal,
Schools like Pei Hwa, CHIJ St Nicholas, Ai Tong, Nanyang are SAP schools. Nanyang for eg, has a class for gifted students like Henry Park.
All students sit for the gifted screening test at P3...those who make it through the 1st round will then go for 2nd round. Nothing to be studied for...bcos gifted is in-born.

MOE website is a good one to check out, as well as SGEM site (www.goodenglish.org.sg). They have lots of resources on there.

I know the school for my daughter to attend for P1 but I'm wondering if enrichment school is the way to go as well. Anyone here use them before?

Boh Tua,
My son didn't go for enrichment classes b4 P1 and after he has gone to primary school. He has Chinese tuition...other than that, nothing extra.

Hi Mummies,
Shd have found this website earlier...

This coming Jul i'm going to register my boy for next yr Pri 1 intake. I read the MOE website that we must produce both parents photocopied IC.

But the problem now is that man is no where to be found. I called him, sms him. He didnt respond at all. We are not divorce nor separation. (we got a lot of problems).

What if by that time i still cannot find him . Can i still register my boy??

What can i do????
