Avent BPA Free Bottle leak?

might be dependent on the batch. I bought some from drugstore and if I use the whole brand new set together (new teat, new screw, new bottle) it will leak.

But if I mix with my old stuff (ie, at least one of the items is from my old set bought in Singapore) then its OK.

Not sure if all batches are encountering the same problem or if I am just suay.

i using the old bottles and are leak-free. But recently, i bought new teats, and then it starts to leak. I think the prob lies with the new teats.

It does leak if not screwed tightly. so now i really screw it very very tight, must use force, then it will be ok. test first by tilting the bottle to almost 60 degrees to see if it leaks, if yes, just unscrew and screw again before feeding.

hi princessmw,
i have 2 small ones and 1 big BPA free avent bottles for sale. Interested?

Small ones i open up to see already but not use. Big one still sealed.

First Few Years at KKH and Paragon sells the Avent BPA free bottles. The 9oz (260ml) is often out of stock. 4oz is more readily available. The 4oz is $15.90 while the 9oz is $17.90. As far as I know, they are the only shop selling the Avent BPA free bottles

Hope it helps!

Hi the newer Avent bottles I bought are all leaking.. I was also wondering if its me suay or is there really a problem with the Avent bottles. Its not the teats that leaked, its actually the neck cap.. Any other people having the same problem with Avent bottles or just few of us..?

JsMummi, did u get urs in SG or overseas? If you get it in SG, might as well ask for refund!

I got mine from overseas spree so 'not much choice'.

i hv the same leaking problem. and i'm getting fedup using the bottles. like wat meng said, u got to screw really tight so that it don't leak. but screw very tight will my bb hv problem drinking from the bottle?? with the old non-BPA free bottles, i don't hv to screw so tight and it don't leak.

I encountered leaking problem as well...ON & OFF leaking..so fedup..feeding used to be an enjoying eventful but now become a stressful event. Sigh. I called up Philips and lodged a complaint..These bottles not cheap, so I
went down to Philips personally to ask for exchange. My old non BPA-Free bottles doesnt bother me with this issue. Probably there's some manufacturing defects with some batches.

Hi mothers, I got a call back from Avent. The guy who called has requested for us to go back and try closing the bottles using a special technique which he says is in the instructions.

If it still does not work, then we can bring back the bottles to Phillips for them to do testing.

If we do reach that stage, then he says I can bring in all the bottles for the mothers so that we don't all have to go down individually. (Please note, I'm not an Avent bottle stealer.. LOL!).

This is the special technique to close the bottle:

Put the teat into the rim until you hear a click sound. Use the dome cap to cover the rim. Then, together with rim and cap, screw back onto the bottle. Screw the rim and cap until the cap starts to move abit (?) then, gently twist the rim a little bit more.

I've obviously thrown away the instructions because I never knew I had to read instructions even for a simple milk bottle. But, maybe you ladies can try this out, and if it doesn't work, and if you're interested, I can pick up the bottles for you all from Kembangan and Orchard MRT station and I'll go down one day to Toa Payoh to have them test the bottles.

Hi

Dunno how active is this thread but just called up Avent to lodge a complaint for the leaky bottle problem. This is especially so when we use the new BPA free bottles....so frustrating.

They should make it easier for parents to use the bottles, bah!

Hi Sabby.. yeap, I know what you mean. The Advent person called me back, and asked me if I wanted to change the bottles, but since no mothers have responded, and I am not keen to go back and change the bottles just for myself at Toa Payoh, I told him it's ok and that I would continue using Pigeon.

hi 2kidsmommy (kimmies)
can i go down personaly cos its more convenience 4 me to go toa payoh..
mine also have the same prob.. very frus!! haiz..

Hi Suez, yes sure you can go down personally, but I suggest you call them before you go down and let them know to expect you first. You can call the Phillips number.

sorry, I lost the number liao. And, I'm not going anymore, as mentioned previously, I'm just going to stick using Pigeon.

I have problems with the Avent BPA free bottles too

Even after following the special technique to close the bottle posted, the bottles still leak. I don't have a problem with the non-BPA bottles.

Think I wanna give up and switch to Pigeon le.

Mine also leak on and off. However if it leaks while I am feeding my son, I just tighten it further and it will stop.

Hi mommies,
i had the same problem - WORSE! both 125ml from the same pack LEAKS! Super irritating!

For those who are facing the same problem as me, you can call the consumer care.

Contact Philips Consumer Care

The 'standard' options they have is
(1) go down to Toa Payoh for their technicians to test
(2) they send guy to pick up at your place and you pay S$20

I asked them, if I bring all my sealed packs there with option (1), are they going to pay me S$20! Crazy! Why they never even quality check their units?

I think we all should consider changing to other brands.

oh dear, i just purchase a few bottles, and upon opening, i realised that the plastic isnt clear and see through, it looks cloudy..

is it normal?

my bb is due in May.. i hope it doesnt leak! if not, it would be be so frustrating to bb and mummy!

Cloudpoem

That's how BPA-free bottles look. If clear, it probably isn't BPA-free.

Has anyone bought the honey-colored Avent bottles recently? Do they still have the leaky problem? I bought one box recently and have yet to use them as I'm currently using the normal white colored ones (the ones with the separate valve ring...so far these don't leak).

And do Pigeon's peristaltic nipples work on these bottles?

My bb has been using the Avent bottle since birth (Oct 2010). Except for once or twice leakage, it's now fine. But thats also bcuz I'm using hand-me-downs from my niece. Meaning the bottles are now abt 3yrs old. The 'cloudy' ones that are passed down from my fren seems to be fine too. Hasn't tried the new 260ml ones that I've bought tho. Got those that comes with a 'plastic ring' inside.

My problem was that the stage 3 teats (3-6mths), had a persistent rubber smell & taste despite several washing with the Pigeon bb detergent, sterilising using steamer, & soaking all the components separately in boiling water. Even my bb's milk has a strong rubbery taste when i tried it.

Called Avent & complained. At 1st, they told me to bring down for inspection, but i told them not convenient for me to bring bb down so far. They tried to 'bargain' & said they'll reimburse my cab fare (didn't tell them i drive :D), but i refused. Than said they'll ask courier to come my place pick up for inspection, but i have to go Toa Payoh to pick up. I refused too. Afterall, its their products' defect, why shld i be further troubled??

Finally, they sent courier to & fro my place. After inspection, they insisted nothing wrong with the teats, & they couldnt find any rubber taste & smell. Rather, they insisted that it Could Be the fragrance from the Pigeon detergent. Which was pure crap, since its rubber smell, not fragrance smell. Afterall, i have been using this detergent since my bb's birth, & there was no rubbery taste till i switched to the 3-6mo teats. Than they wanted to send back the old teats & a bottle that they took along too for inspection. I told them if anything happens to my bb after using the teats, i'll sue them. Than they said they'll do ''further testing''. 2 days later, they called me back, said nothing wrong, could be the detergent (again). Told me don't wash with the detergent, juz plain water will do. I told them its not possible as the milk causes the bottle & teats to be oily. Just water alone won't be able to clean it effectively (shldnt that be common sense?!) But they tried to sound as if, if i use the detergent again & the same thing happens, than its my fault!

Nevertheless, they said they'll give me 6 new teats & a new BPA-free bottle since my bottle was old. Since than, there has been no rubbery smell & taste from these new teats. Not sure if any other mums had the same experience.

Also, if u want them to pick up the teats from your place FOC, muz be really fierce, & complain!

Hi LovingKae,

I guess i must be the free lucky one. No leaking with the cloudy-coloured bottle nor the honey-coloured bottle. Was reading your post, i think it is not advisable to use hand-me down for bottle and teats. In fact may have to change every 3 months?

Hi,

How long can the AVENT milk bottles be used for? My boy has been using fr birth till now. It's almost 3 yrs. I have only changed the teats. Is it necessary to change the bottles too?
Thx!
