Hi,I'm new to S'pore ob/gyns.Had been to Gleneagles but find parking and transportation difficult.I would like to try NUH and wondering if anyone heard of Prof. Biswas? Had just recently suffered 3rd miscarriage and rather desperate to look for a good obstetrican/gynae.Greatly appreciate any input/advice. Thank you

Just delivered my baby girl last May and all i have to say is, Prof Biswas did a fantastic job handling me!

He doesn't share much stuff with his patients though cos he dun wan them to worry about unncessary things.

In all, a very fatherly figure! highly recommended!

Sylvie - Prof Biswas is good !

Prof Biswas is Singapore's no.1 Amniotic Fluid test Gynae i was told!!!! MY sister & fren had to go through amniotic fluid tests during their 2nd pregnancies cos they are both above 35 and even their own gynae dare not perform amniotic fluid test on them cos it is a fairly risky procedure - ie higher chances of a miscarriage hence both their gynaes (my sis gynae in East Shore) and my fren's gynae in Gleneagles referred them to Prof Biswas! Both gynaes said the same thing abt Biswas .. that he is Singapore no.1 amniotic fluid test gynae and usually for older mums, they will refer to Biswas as he is supposed to have the "midas touch" !

I had twins ... my gynae also referred me to Prof Biswas. My original gynae was with Mt E ... but bcos of twins, my gynae was nice to tell me that it is best for me to go thru gynaes in KKH or NUH in case of premature birth (as KKH & NUH has the most complete nursery ward facilities) and it won't cost me a bomb should my twins need to be warded in ICU ... i asked my gynae to refer me to a good gynae in the Govt restructured hospital ... & he too recommended biswas !!!

I agree with Nursyahidah, Biswas usually doesn't talk much which is a good thing actually cos he tries to set mums-to-be minds at ease ... he is not those who tells you this cannot eat , that cannot eat, must not do this, must not do that ... nothing at all ... he only asked me to walk slowly & not to carry heavy things (cos of my twin pregnancy)

Hope this helps

Prof Biswas helped to deliver my first bb and I'm having him again for my 2nd pregnancy. I have trust in his skills and professionalism and he is just fantastic, although other gynaes in NUH who moved over from Mt E enjoy higher profile than him, but that's good for his patients cos' we pay a slightly lower rate but enjoy the same level of service. I find that an important thing is that he enjoys good support from the nurses and MO during his deliveries. That is important.

Hi,

I was actually under Prof YC Wong in NUH for my 3 kids. But it happened that Prof YC Wong was on leave when my 3rd was due & Prof Biswas was on standby for me.

He is good & I was very immpressed that he actually made an effort to check on me in the Labour ward in the morning ard 8+ tho' it was Deepavali holiday (I went in around 3+am). At the time he checked me, baby was not ready to come out & I was still waiting for my epidura jab. Then ard 9am baby suddenly decided to come out before my epidura & luckily Prof Biswas was ard as he came to check on me earlier or my baby will delivered by mid-wife already.

He was very calm tho' the whole team was frantically looking for the delivery kit etc. He is also v experienced & I feel totally at ease tho' I had not been under him before.

In short, he is good.

heard very good comment of PRof. Biswas.

i just had my 2nd mc in a row, very devastated because my age is also not young anymore. My gynae couldn't find the cause of my recurrent mc.
i have no confidence to start TTC again, worried that it will repeat the same story and burn all my hope to have baby on my own.
would appreciate your advise, if any of you know if prof. Biswas will be interested to handle my case

Hi,

I am not sure if Prof Biswas will take your case but I just wish that you do not give up hope. Things may just turn out well on it's natural pace.

Do take care & rest well first.

cheers

Prof Biswas is a good dr.he has been handling my case since 2004( i have pco).tcc since 2008 and now im preggy!!!. i agree with the rest,he is fatherly, and dont really like to tell you much things that would make you worry.
he would tell you what he is going to do, one step at a time, like say when we are failing to conceive at step one he would say we might opt for step 2.then he will discuss it later on

during my op, i guess he knows im scared. he pulled down his mask briefly and said hi

)

i think his specialty is maternal-fetal medicine. i did not do a research when i went to see him. i just asked a nurse working at nuh who is a good dr and that was enough for me

Hi,
Can i find out if Prof Biswas provide his handphone number to patients so that we can call him if there is an emergency?
Or we have to call NUH to talk to him?

Hi Mildstrawberry,
same as you, i had 2 MC in a row. My first gynae was from paragon, diagnosed my first MC. He did not give me a reason why, and asked me to seek second opinion, but because he made me feel worried, so i changed gynae. 2nd gynae did the 1st MC, in a matter of fact/ routine manner. Then shortly after i got pregnant, she did the second MC, again very procedural, very matter of fact way. I still remembered it was Xmas Eve and i was in room waiting for her after the MC. When she walked in, i was about to go toilet, and she told me to hurry as she does not have much time????!!!! Xmas eve....
anyways, i tried all ways to find out reasons for my MC, even visiting 3rd gynae in KKH. He seems not too experienced in this area( though he was highly recommended). He even wikipedia the tests required, and explain to me in a half pass six manner!!! Then i realise that alot of gynae out there are only good for normal pregnancy, when there are problems, they DO NOT know how to handle.
Until i went to Prof Biswas, he did all the necessary tests (explaining all of them clearly) and put me on baby aspirin. I feel comfortable with him, as i am kan cheong spider type and he puts me at ease. I am truly grateful to him...

Hi Gracie,
I am thinking of signing up Prof Biswas as my gynae. Can I find out if i have question for him, is that any way i can contact him directly (like private gynae) or i have go thr nuh or appt to see him?
Currently I am with PC Wong and he will only see me through 1st trimester and i have look for other gynae.

i am under prof biswas. he some times gives his mobile no when he is overseas also. you can ask for it. for my first baby i was under prof pc wong. i think prof biswas is much more caring dr. i strongly recomend him. if you take the appt around 2 the waiting time is less than 20 min.

Hi Pupil,
Is prof Biswas at the clinic most of the time? Does he do teaching at the university?
PC Wong recommended Prof YC Wong and he is only around like 3 days/wk which i find it less convenient if i need to see him urgently.

bakaholic - prof biswas' clinic is open 3 days a week when i was seeing him last year. i normally contact the NUH O&G clinic if i was worried and wanted advice. the nurses will contact him for me and the responses are normally within an hour. if his clinic is not opened, i will be redirected to see anther gynae whose clinic is open for that day, e.g. Prof YC Wong, and my file will be with that gynae during my visit, hence he would still know my medical history.

as for waiting time, it is usually less than 1 hour. what i noticed is that he seems to be handling complicated cases and he is very detailed, hence the waiting time for the subsequent patients may be delayed. it is definitely not those 2-3 hours waiting time and i would gladly wait for him as he had really given me a sense of reassurance that my pregnancy is well-managed. he is a very professional and caring gynae.

I often have a wait of an hour to see Prof Biswas and recently it took 4 hours to complete a routine visit & blood tests. (There were a couple of emergency cases before me - as the previous poster says, Prof Biswas does seem to get the complicated cases).

However when I had problems and called the hospital, he told me to come in straight away and I was seen within 1 hour of making the call. So I guess what goes around comes around. Definitely worth the wait as he's very good at putting your mind at rest!

Sorry, not convenient to post my story here,
but thumbs up for Prof Biwas too!
He is a very professsional, committed and caring doctor despite his busy schedule.

hi all, I wanted to take up a package at NUH with A/Prof Biswas, however, i called and they said that the package only consists of two obstetric scans, on the 22nd and 32nd weeks, after which no more scans. However, how can this be justified? if we do not do anymore scans after this, how do they ensure that the baby is in breach position or if the umblical cord is not hanging around his neck that may pose any danger to him during birth etc? does anyone knows how it works? do they really don't scan at all after the 32nd week? it is quite amazing as all the other friends that i have asked about who went to private gynae said that they scan everytime even more so during the due date..

HI cepheus,

Im not with A/Prof Biswas, but with A/P Chong. It is true that in NUH there is no detail scanning after week 32. Experienced gynae will be able to feel the position of the baby just through tocuching your tummy.

Im just like u, concerned over the lack of scans when im have my number one, the docs are very assuring. My gynae is able to tell me the position of my baby just by feeling my tummy and even assured me that my baby is bigger then what the ultrasound reading it after just feeling my tummy.

Although there is no detailed scan after week 32, there is still scanning for AF level etc.

cheers

hi guys..my fertility specialist has refered me to prof biswas to do featos reduction since im carrying quadruplets..mayb i mite take him s my gynea...

Just gave birth to my 3rd child with Biswas last Saturday.

He's still as fantastic as ever, very thorough very concerned about his patients but never one to overly worry his patients about their condition. (I know how most pregnant mommies especially first time ones can get a bit anxious over their pregnancies. I was one of them too once upon a time)

Waiting times for his consult varies but most times I would only need to wait 30 minutes max to see him.

He specializes in complicated cases (multiples etc) so he is the go-to man for these cases.

Is he the one who always do the scanning? Or are the scanning done by sonographers?

Do we have to queue at different stations (e.g. weight + urine test, ultrasonic scan, any other tests) before seeing him?

anyone knows how much is the consultation and ob scan to prof Biswas? my ob give me a request for repeat obs scan to prof biswas of Nuh . thank a lot in advance !

Hi Cepheus, just to put your mind at ease. Even though prenatal package for nuh is such, the gynaes there are all very experienced enough to tell u if there is a problem even without scans. I was with Prof biswas during my 2nd pregnancy and i had placenta previa. When i took up the package, there was no additional scans being done and Prof was able to pick up my condition during my 5th month scan which was included in the package. So for me, i feel it doesnt mean more scans are good. It is how experience your gynae is. And prof biswas being the head of dept, all his other consultants when they are in doubt always go to him for advise. Really excellent dr and mentor for the other gynaes.
