Presently, I'm 7months pregnant.

I had this BAD RASHES & ITCHY SKIN since I'm 4months pregnant.

I had been to specialist & applied cream & taken medication for few months but nothing has improved...

My whole body is full of rashes & every night I'm scratching till I can't get enough rest as I need to wake up 7am to go to office.

Does any1 ever had this kind of experience??

Is it normal??

Any way to cure??

Innocent Devil, think you should be having what i'm having... It is PUPPP Rashes (Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy) which small % of pregnant woman developed...

See attached link: http://www.babycenter.com/0_itchy-skin-during-pregnancy_9450.bc

Didnt the specialist & gynae inform you that it is PUPPP Rashes? Nothing can stop it as it is cause by hormone changes due to pregnancy... and it will only go off after delivery...

Hi there,

I think, yes, u do have the PUPPPS. I have delivered twins 7 mths ago, and I had the Puppps when i was 4 mths preggy.

It is certainly an awful experience of my preg. I was sleepless at nite, I scratched everywhere till i bled some areas.

I still have pics on my hp to show u, if u need to confirm how it looks like. My rashes miraclously cured the week I delivered my bbs.

I saw a Dermatologist at Mt E, who was pretty good. He prescribed mild steriods to clear it. However, I was aftraid of the steriods crossing the placenta, thus I did not apply it throughout the preg. U can use PH 5.5 Soap, or QV moisturisers. My dermatologist siad they do help it to be less itchy. Howeverm honesly, it still itched like mad no matter what i applied. Sigh..

I had even open blisters, and pple tot I had the chicken pox.

Seriously, there is no way to cure it. If you are having a singleton baby, u are having the puppps very early at 4 mths. Fow what I know, singletons - Puppps are are likely to appear after 7 mths of preg.

For my case, its multiple preg, so dr said the excessive hormones will cause it to appear even earlier.

FIY, Puppps affects 1/200 mummies. Sigh....Why did it have to be us.....

U can pm me for more info in dealing wif it.

Hi xj,

Yes, mine was also quite similar to yr pic....It is damm itchy, and nothing can relieve the itch...

Only delivering the bb can the itch go away.

I had that early this year but luckily lasted for less than 1month, think about 2-3weeks. Can imagine how bad it is if it lasts for a long long while.

Hi,

Am currently in my 23week of pregnancy. Been having this itchy rashes since about 2+ weeks ago. it started with itchy skin followed by some tiny spots after i scratched and now it like spreading all over my buttocks, thighs, arms and legs and a bit on my tummy. Seen my gynae who says its not PUPP and referred me to a dermatologist. Dermatologist seems unsure and said its acne.

Applied the cream he gave me and it burnt up my skin and got me scratching even more. Went to seek a second opinion from another derm and she says it looks something like eczema and clogging of hair follicles. Was prescribed with a cream (efficort, which i think it's some kind of steriods?), bath oil and moisturiser. Rashes not that itchy now, but doesn't seem to go away. In fact, some tiny ones started coming out again. It's red, and some of the rashes are bigger (tiny ones formed together). My elbows and knees feels especially hot and itchy at night.

Does anyone know what is that? Is that eczema or something else? Im nt sure if it's PUPP since my gynae says it isn't...am so desperate now to seek some advice...

Hi,

I got bad rashes & itchy skin since my 8 weeks to 16 weeks preggie. It was so itchy until my skin bleed due to i scratched it when i was asleep. I went to many GP & all gave me "endoderm"(if i spell it correctly) to apply. Check with my gynae & was told it is safe for preggie mum. The cream will only stop the rashes for 1 or 2 days, then next day other part of the body will start rashes & itchy, then I got to use the cream again. Not sure already use how many tubes of endoderm.

Did many research on website & check with many mothers.Tried many things to stop the itch since the gynae said some mother will get this until the baby is deliver.

1) I stop all seafood completely,

2) use Sebamed (PH 5.5)shower gel for sensitive skin,

3) user cold water for shower even in the evening,

4)wear thin clothing,

5) use clarins oil twice a day for full body (from neg to knee)- need 2 bottles of clarins oil/ month, quite costly tough [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif].

Finally my rashes & itchy skin gone.

Hope the above help!.

Good Luck

Hi girls,

I got PUPPP at around 7 mths. I can't sleep or work. Even made gynae gave me HL so I can stay home. Believe me, nothing worked! I tried

-cetaphil, sebamed, baby soap, some traditional soaps, lotions

-baby powder, calamine lotion (worse it's drying)

-use super cold water, freaking hot water to shower, soak myself (quickie relief)

-use different types of body oil

-cold compress/warm conpress

-steroid creams (made me itch more)

-numbing gel like lignocaine

-piriton (good, sleep it off)

-referral to skin centre (the stupid consultant just smiled and said he can't do anything, wait till childbirth, wth!)

-etc etc

I summoned all willpower to prevent scratching but soon I found myself subconciously scratching with a comb! My doctor suggested relieving my itch with those soft netting shower sponge. Nah, not shiok enuff.

I have lots of 50cents on my legs, hands and tummy. It really ruined my last trimester. Was so depressed that I'm numbed by the ugly sight of my skin.

PUPPP usually look like little perfect round mosquito bites which will get bigger and merge so you will look red like lobster. When it has healed, the skin will darkened though it's temporary. But if you scratch, the 50cents will develop and that's when you end up like me, no more skirts and short sleeves.

My best personal advice, keep the skin moist (non-allergenic moisturizer) and most important keep your body cool (air-con best) if you can. Oh, PUPPP subsided a few weeks before I gave birth but return at the 3rd week of my post partum. It finally left me after the 6th week. So no, it did not disappear immediately after birth. Good news is, it will not come back after all the pregnancy hormones are gone from your body.

Try Buds Super Soothing Rescue Lotion. Not cheap but very effective. The organic shop assistant claimed one of the TCM ordered dozens and dozens from him for their eczema patient and I bought one and tried, it really works! Now my maid insisted in using it for my baby gal stubborn nappy rash though I bought for her cheaper organic brand soothing lotion.

I think you can use calamine lotion to relieve the itch. But for the rashes... I am not sure what to do to make it less noticeable.
