Advice needed.. should baby go for malaysia citizenship or singapore citizenship?

@eeneyminey
ya i go to ICA directly cos father have to sign the birth cert before it can be issue to us. the birth cert is register on the spot and can collect on the same day.

@Jo
haven't try to apply malaysian citizenship
so hope to find mommy who's child is singaporean and also granted malaysian citizenship too..

Hi eeneyminey

I applied for malaysian citizenship first and then apply for singapore citizenship - no problem.

When u applied online, u need to provide ICA with docs like your marriage cert and baby birth cert.

Hi Karra,

the ica officer didnt ask u whether the baby is citizen of other country when u collect the docs?

Did u apply for baby girl or baby boy? I scared if baby boy it will be more complicated as now alot of cases that parents dun want to make the baby solely sg citizen coz of NS.

Hi everyone

I'm M'sian and my hubby is S'porean.

If my bb is borned in M'sia and later I apply for S'pore citizenship for the bb, are we entitled for baby bonus if we are in Malaysia?

Also, if the baby has dual citizenship, will the bb be entitled for baby bonus too?

Thanks for the advice. ^_^

Siti,
for baby bonus, the baby needs to be born in Singapore and legally married in Singapore.

My husband is malaysian and I'm singaporean, my children are born in singapore and my husband applied them malaysian pr.

We live in singapore. and my husband works and hold a PR Singapore.

I register and apply PR at Malaysian Embassy and collect the pr status at Johor.

its difficult to get a singapore citizen for the bb if the baby are born in malaysian.

Hi,

I have been a silent reader.

Just some correction. To be eligible for baby bonus, baby doesn't need to be born or legally married in Singapore. You will just need the following criteria:
a. born on or after 17 August 2008;
b. a Singapore Citizen or becomes a Singapore Citizen;
c. born alive to the mother; and
d. the mother is lawfully married to the child's father.

The above is taken from Baby Bonus Scheme

Siti
My baby is born in Malaysia a month ago, he has applied for Malaysia citizenship upon discharge and also applying for Singapore citizenship through online about a week after birth, now waiting for approval in another 2 months' time.

Looking at the link above, I don't see why my baby will not be able to get the baby bonus once he get Singapore citizenship.

Hi all,

I need some urgent help here regarding applying for Singapore citizen by descent scheme with overseas born minor.

I just gave birth to a baby gal in JB.  In fact, it is not planned as my EDD suppose to be 2 wks later. My waterbag broke when I was in JB.

I m Malaysian and husband is Singaporean by registration ( meaning he converted to Singaporean few years ago, previously Malaysian)

I saw on ICA website saying that if is Singaporean by registration , then child shall not acquire citizenship of that country.

So ... In this case, am I eligible to apply for Singapore citizenship if my baby is granted Malaysian citizenship automatically during the birth cert process?

Anyone has same situation here? Pls advise.

My email is [email protected]
Can email me directly.

Greatly appreciated!

Hi, I'm M'sian(sg pr) married to a sg'rean hubby. I give birth to a baby boy in sg 5 mths ago and baby is a sg citizen. Now I want to bring my son back to m'sia urgently and hope my son to be M'sian due to a very serious reason. Is anyone know am I still eligible to apply m'sia citizenship for my son or what can I do?  Please advise urgently, thanks.

Hello Karra,

I am Msian and SPR and my hubby is Indonesian and SPR.We just newly married.

I am actually considering to convert to Spore Citizen now but i would like to find out more before i make up my mind.

Actually my intention to consider to convert is becos of:
1) Housing - can get new flax and at cheaper rate
2) Kid future education - think better off in Spore and education cost if it's Sporean, it will be subsided partially too.
3) Maternity leave - Spore has longer maternity leave than SPR.

Due to all these, that is why attracted me to convert now before we have our baby.
However, I was told that i will not able to enjoy the #2 & # 3 is my kid is not Sporean. Is that true that all entitlements are based on kids' nationality?

I am caught in a dilemma now after reading all these thread. You mentioned about dual citizenship.
Do you think if i have a kid, i can make them to have dual citizenhsip (Msian and Sporean)?
If yes, by how i can do that? need your advice pls.
I reckon that timing for me to convert is also important here.
Says if i convert now (before i have baby), i might not able to deliver my kid in Msia and dont even mention of getting the Msian citizen for my bb ,right?

About timing to convert or whether convert or not is really been bothering me quite a lot.

hi mommies who had given birth, did you manage to get both malaysia and singapore citizenship for your babies? How did you go about doing it?

Would greatly appreciate mummies who managed to get dual citizenship to share their experience?

My BB gal is now 4 mths Malaysian. Me a sporean married msian living in msia.

Anyway my 2 elder doters both sporean...just to share that they are still on 6 mths visa even after 2 years of living here. STill cannot get PR.

my baby who is 3 and half mths old got his dual citizenship last week, now waiting for letter from ICA to go down collect the document.

Ashley: You must give birth in Malaysia in order to get dual citizenship. Must get birth cert from Malaysia first as it don't accept dual citizenship, only Singapore accepts.

Mamabalqis: I applied online: https://esc.ica.gov.sg/esc/index.do It takes 3mths to get reply from ICA. The person in-charge of your case will require you either go down ICA with original documents or you can go Singapore embassy to get a certified true copy and scan to them through email.

Hi karra..

Need ur info..I'm malaysian married to Sg hubby.my EDD is 13jan next year.I planned for my bb to hv dual ctizenship.am I entitled to get bb bonus?and if so,the bb bonus get in cash or deposit into bb accout?I wil get full amount as mention in bb scheme $4k or will b pro rated?thnks for ur info..

mummydila, you will be entitled to baby bonus but that is after your baby citizenship is approved by sg. If you want to get full amount, you need to apply for dual citizenship as soon as possible when bb is born. Sg require 3 months to process it. Baby bonus is in cash, deposited into your bank account or whichever account you giving.

Take note that when you apply dual citizenship, your baby will only have Malaysia passport so baby will need to stay in Malaysia for at least a month.

Thnks audreyaw for the info..(",)..

I hv read the bb scheme n mention abt CDA.is it compulsory for bb to hv CDA?and if so,wht is the function for bb to hv CDA?

I also wnt to knw the possiblities hv for ICA to approve my bb ctznship.bcos my hsbnd SGC.is it strong enough for bb to get ctznshp?but bb wil sty w me in msia.is thre any prob regrdng ths mter?

If bb hv dual ctzenship,so in whtever form need to fill, smtimes we need to put the nationality.so wht should I wrte?MY or SG?becos SG accept dual ctznship not MY.if MY side knw abt my bb hv dual ctznship,is thre any prob here in MY?

Thnks for sharing info..

I am new here and I have few questions to make myself clear enough before I make the decision.

1. the only way to make dual citizenship is born in MY and Apply Singapore citizenship via online?

2. The baby has both passports or only 1? It is because I am MY and my wife is SG. And both of us stay in Sg I would like send my boy to JB for granny.

3. IS that singapore recognize dual citizen and malaysia didn't?

4. Which passport that I use to go in Singapore and oversea?

Thx for ur help.

Mummydila: As long as 1 parent is singaporean, the chances of getting citizenship is like 100%. My baby who has dual citizenship stayed in msia with me also, he got his certificate 2 weeks ago. No problem in msia, don't worry about it because you are not getting 2 birth certs. Only 1 msia birth cert and 1 sg citizenship certificate.

Coconut88:
1. Yes, must born in MY and apply MY birth cert first. Doesn't need to apply online, you can go there apply personally. (Download form and fill it up before going) But you might want to go early, that day I went down to show the in-charge original documents and give a recent photo of baby took me more than 2hrs.

2. Baby can have both passports if you want. Mine only take msia passport with entry rights stamped by sg at the moment.

3. Yes

4. I feel make 1 passport is enough since baby won't go overseas frequently. MY passport cost RM150 while SG passport cost SGD70. Bring any passport will do if you decide to make both.

@ mummydila

CDA acct is a savings acct given to your child by the govt. The govt matches dollar to dollar for every dollar you saved into that acct for your child up to a max of 6K for the 1st n 2nd child, 3rd and 4th, the cap will be raised further. Meaning if you save 6K into that acct for your 1st child, govt will match that 6K so total you'll have 12K in that acct for that child alone. Anymore contributions made by you thereafter, govt's matching will cease.

Interest rate for CDA acct standardized at 0.5% generally higher than savings acct. So far only 2 banks are authorised by the govt, Stand Chart and OCBC, both have their own unique advantage, you need to find out with the banks' website and see which 1 suits you more.

The purpose of the CDA acct is for the child's

1) Enrichment fees.
2) Early Childhood Education fees.
3) School Education Related fees (Not school fees to my knowledge, I might be wrong thou, but school initiated activities will be allowed e.g. excursion).
4) Tertiary Education fees (Uni tuition fees)
5) Child's immunity jabs
6) General GP or PD consultation

If there is still balance left at the end of your child's tertiary education, the balance will be transfered over to his/her CPF OA acct.

Once savings deposited into CDA acct, you can't withdraw them out in cash.

You'll need to satisfy some criteria before you can apply which you should be able to find by googling CDA. The necessary forms were given to me by TMC at the time of my daughter's arrival. Thou the hospital could settle the application for me, I ended up doing everything myself which involved sending application letter to MCYS, going to the bank to set up acct and going to ICA to register her birth, as we were not able to finalize her chinese name at birth.

Hope this explains in detail.

6K is per child for the 1st 2 child (So if you maximise the matching by putting in 12K in total, your 2 accts will have a total of 24K combined), the matching amt will increase per child for the 3rd and 4th.

BUT, you can share the accts, for example, using your 2nd child's acct to pay for expenses incurred by the 1st if your 1st child's acct got depleted.

That's what my SiL is doing currently.

Hi All,

Sharing my experince. My hubby and i are Malaysian. We both SPR at the time my first baby born in Singapore. So we got him singapore birth cert ( Baby is not a singaporean at the time of birth)and went to Malaysia High comm to get the Borang W done. Then we applied Malaysian citizenship and got his Malaysian Passport. Baby will never become a Singapore citizen if non of the parent is Singaporean eventhough born in singapore. If one of the parent is a singaporean then you have not choice to become other nationality if you plan to deliver baby in sidngapore. Then we proceed to ICA to applied PR status for my baby. Do not travel outside Singapore before you apply the pass for your baby because once you exit singapore the path for Getting PR status for your baby will be different Now. This is what happended to My Baby. We travelled to Malaysia by using his Malaysian passport before we apply him a Status to stay in Singapore. But eventually we still got him the SPR Status to stay in singapore.

3 months later my hubby decided to convert his malaysian citizenship to singapore due to ...thingy. Once My husband got his SC approved then we also applied my son SC. so my son is now holding dual citizenship. He also entitled for Baby bonus. Not full but Prorate. We got S3000 on age 6 months, 12 months and 18 months. We now still travel with his Malaysia passport outside singapore for easier access to malaysia. But you must get this malaysia passport an adorsement to show that his is singapore minor. Otherwise, every time you exist and enter singapore sure got some delay at the custom. Becuase those officers getting confused with the baby passport. (singaporean or malaysian???)

Now, I am expecting my second child soon. We are planning to deliver baby in Malaysia for dual citizenship reason. If i deliver the baby in singapore this time, baby No 2 will automatically become a singaporean. We have a " choice" to become singaporean 1st then apply for states of confirmation ( Borang E) if we wish to register our baby as Malaysia Too. ( visit JPN.gov.my) But i dont want to take the risk to go for this path. This borang E is only allowed you to register your baby as " said Malaysian" baby need to choice when he/she turning 21 yo. It will not allowed you to have dual citizenship or carry malaysia passport. As non malay malaysia never be easy to get the citizenship or PR if you are not born as Malaysian.

I am seeking experience from those mummies who are using their Singapore CPF to deliver baby in Malaysia, Especially at Regency Specialist Hospital in Johor. Can Someone also share the process of getting the Malaysian birth cert and passport once the baby is delivered in Malaysia.Eg.. how long, borang need to fill, required documents.....

the_traveller: Not sure about the CPF thing, need someone else to tell you. My cousin mentioned to me that must get referral letter from sg but forgotten the place. She ever consider delivering in Malacca but decided not to because she doesn't want to put baby in Malaysia for 3mths.

As for birth cert and passport, you can take it on the same day when you apply. I applied both on different days. The hospital (at least mine did) will fill up the forms for you and all you need is to fill up baby name only.

Birth cert need to bring malaysia marriage cert, parents' ic but I have to bring passport as I'm Singaporean.

Passport need bring a photo of baby, RM150, birth cert and parents' IC. Need wait an hr to collect passport.

Hi Audrey,

Thank for your infor, I knew we need a referral letter from either parkway health limited or Health management International as these two are acredited hospitals by MOH. any mummy out there travel to regency specialist hospital weekly for check up?

the_traveller: That qns i can answer. You must go to the hospital at least once for record purpose only. You can visit your gynae in sg and go back to msia to deliver.
happy.gif

Usually only a Malay gynae there, so the possibility of getting delivered by the other gynae from sg is very low. Initially i plan to get that gynae but after hearing this, i changed to local gynae at another hospital without using cpf.

thank you Andrew, If the baby reach 12 years old. they might have to get the IC. So I just worry that time they might ask u to give up one of the citizenship. will it happen?

coconut88: Nope it won't happen. There is a date printed on the citizenship certificate stating the time he/she has to decide. It will be from the day kid reaches the age of 21 and a day before the age of 22.
happy.gif

Hi Andrew,
So continue my question,
if baby reach 12 years old, he have to apply the IC both country or only can apply in sg since malaysia government not recognize dual citizenship.

Hi Conunut88,

I would apply IC from both Countries. As a citizen for both countries it is baby obligation to have both IC when reaches the age 12. Its not needed to tell Malaysia your baby is holding dual citizen. This will only make thing more complicated. your baby is a malaysian when he is in malaysia while in singapore he is Singaporean. So your baby need the IC as Malaysian. If you wish to send you baby to Malaysia for granny for long period of time. Then u better use only malaysia Passport. Reason....Singapore passport only allow baby to stay in Malaysia ( 30 Days). One thing need to bear in mind, We always travel with same passport in and out of the country.. Avoid the confusion.

Hey All,

I have a question about BB holding dual passport.

My son is holding Malaysia passport currently with SPR, and he is going to receive his SG passport soon.

- After receive the SG passport, the SPR status on his M'sia passport will be cancelled, right?

- When he travelling between SG and M'sia, which passport should he use?
SG? Then have to stamp in and out....
M'sia? Then got to fill white card at SG immigration....
is it possible to use SG passport when leaving/entering SG, and use M'sia passport when leaving/entering M'sia??

Any parents got experience to share? Thanks~

Hi Mengyuan

using only Malaysia passport is good enough for him.you must get the stamp for singapore citizen minor from ICa when you collected his sg passport. Also ask them to mark the cancel of his spr stamp on last page of malaysia passport( usually) and write refer to which page ( New stamp).Otherwise you will facing problem everytime in and out of singapore.

If i were you, i won't bring two passports with me, but this is individual choice.

Hi J,

thanks for above reply.

But as M'sia do not accept dual citizenship, when the M'sia officer saw the new stamp, wouldn't there be a problem?

And another question is, what to do when he need to revew his M'sia passport a few years later?

mengyuan: My baby using msia passport with the right of entry for sg at the last page of his passport. He has no problem travelling in and out of msia, i have been going to sg like weekly?

When he renew his msia passport, bring the new passport to ICA level 6 to get a new stamp.

hi all, the information shared here has been very useful. I had given birth in Malaysia and baby is Malaysian and currently applying for Singapore citizenship. As I have already gotten the Malaysia passport, is it necessary to get the Singapore passport once his Singapore citizenship is approved? I plan to travel to Singapore with baby before he gets his citizenship, presumably that will be on 30 days social visit. If his singapore citizenship is approved,do I need to bring the Malaysia passport to ICA to get the stamp that was mentioned?

Hi all, another question, I understand there is difference in citizenship application for baby that is born in Malaysia to a parent who is a Singaporean by descent and Singaporean by registration. Is any parent out there who is a Singaporean by registration managed to get Singapore citizenship for baby who is born in Malaysia?

Hi Ashley,

The normal process is ica will giving u an Singapore passport application form when ur Singapore citizenship is approved but its no a necessary to apply him the Singapore passport . However, you can keep both if you wish. Just Let ica know his malaysia passport still valid and need the minor stamp.

I rang ica weeks ago , they told me,shouldn't be any problem for getting singapore citizen for the baby as long as one of the parent is Singaporean. But then your baby will be record as citizenship by registration because he is born outsideSingapore plus if Singaporean parent is citizenship by registration too )baby will record as Singaporean by descent if born in Singapore even though his Singaporean parent is citizenship by registration.

Are you or your husband is Singaporean by registration? May I know ur baby is holding passport prefix a or k?

Thanks J. My husband is a Singapore Citizen by registration. I also read in the ICA website (just like Mimi Chua) that if a Singapore Citizen by registration applies for a citizenship by descent for his child born overseas, then the child must not acquire the citizenship of the country of birth. However since I delivered in Malaysia, my child is automatically a malaysian as per the birth certificate. Hence I was wondering. He has A series passport

Mimi Chua: Could you manage to get your child's Singapore Citizenship? We have the case I believe where our husbands are singapore citizen by registration

Hi Audrey ,Ashley

Which hospital you went to deliver your baby?? Can share how much was your bill?any much cheaper than sg?? Any parents delivered at jb??

J, I am from a town near KL. Delivered at a new private hospital. Normal delivery was 2,600 RM inclusive of 1 night stay for my husband and I (single room, attached bathroom, very clean and included 4 meals for each of us). Had wireless connection also.

Thanks Ashley, that is reasonable price, went to regency specialist hospital, normal delivery rm 3500 exclusive meals and bed. ++. It can be up to rm 6000 ~basic service ,I found it ,no much cheaper than Kkh. I am still looking for other medical to go.

J,

I went Puteri Specialist Hospital beside Larkin Interchange to delivery. Normal delivery with the use of laughing gas, executive suite single room with window (normal single room is full) cost me RM4600. It comes with a recline sofa bed for hubby, a fridge, tv and bathroom.

Thanks Audrey,

Who was your gynae at psh?Have you heard or review from other parents about kempas medical centre? They have quite a few o & g from Singapore

J,

My gynae is Dr. Ding, he was recommended by my hubby's friend who was recommended to him by her gynae in Mount E in sg.

I don't have many friends in malaysia so I'm not sure about that. But 1 thing for sure is though there are a few o&g from sg seeing patients there but most probably they will not be there when you deliver so must take that into consideration. I prefer to have a gynae who see me frequently, know about my condition to deliver my baby rather than someone I never see before, just feel unsafe about it.

It's going to be 2 months soon. After 1 month since my husband applied for the Singapore Citizenship for our son, ICA asked for his salary slip, employment letter, CPF contribution history and tax assessment for the past 3 years. Anyone who is a singaporean by registration (not by birth) got his/her child's citizenship approved, although the child was born in Malaysia?

And how do you bring back the baby in Singapore? Do you apply for the Long Term Social Visit Pass till you wait for the citizenship result?

Hi, my hubby and I are both Malaysians. Baby born in SG in 2010 and we applied Malaysian citizenship with Singapore visit pass (so not SPR).
However now I just received my Sg citizenship approval for me and baby.
My question now is: baby is boy and will choose between dual citizenship when 21 (confirmed by ICA). However, what happens at 18 for NS? Must he serve since he has not chosen his nationality?

Appreciate help much
