Avoid internal allergens - determine and eliminate foods from the diet that cause eczema.

This is one of the most overlooked aspects of baby eczema treatment. Once the food that causes the eczema has been found and removed from the diet, it can take only few days for the eczema to clear up.

Here is a list of foods that are known to cause eczema in babies and should be removed from the diet:

Cow dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt) - replace with goats dairy. Cow dairy in formula can sometimes be enough to flare up eczema. If possible, feed your baby instead of cow diary with breast milk (it is the purest of all milks). Breast milk is an important factor in building up a strong immune system.
Citrus
Wheat
Soy
Berries
Chocolate, peanuts and peanut butter
Fish

Avoid external allergens - use 100% pure cotton clothes and cloth diapers, use natural scent free soaps and baby shampoo for washing and keep your home dust free. Use creams and lotions with only natural ingredients.

Cloth diapers are not as cheap and comfortable to handle as disposable diapers because you have to use diaper service or handle the diaper load by yourself, but it is important that your baby's most sensitive parts are in touch only with natural materials to avoid eczema flaring up where it is most painful.

Use calendula cream, chamomile tea, unrefined olive oil and sea salt baths to soothe and treat the baby eczema.

Based on many success stories on internet forums, these natural remedies have turned out to be very effective for eczema treatment. You can find more information about them in my previous article titled Natural Cure for Eczema. You can also try Aloe Vera to soothe and heal the skin, but keep in mind that some babies are allergic to it.

Boost your babies immune system by taking him/her out to FRESH air as often as possible.

hi, any of your kids had eczema that eventually resulted to become a white pus like, then formed a skin bump from a flesh colour and slowly turning to orange colour-like?

Hi mummies, I just try a tub of calendula cream on my tod n finishing soon. Yesterday, I brought my boy to NSC pd for this quarterly check up. Since my tod is abt 17mths old now, she prescribe fucicort for any flare up now (used to b on desonide). I told her tat I'm using calendula cream now but she said it's not good. I was a bit shock n forgot to ask y. She say I shld stick to physiogel again. I said I heard mummies recommended calendula but she just ans mummies m doctors r different. She knows abt calendula but she disapprove it. Now got to buy physiogel back. Haiz... I just order another tub in spree... Guess I use it on myself.

Hi Laila, calendula helps right? Mu hubby also notice tht our son's skin improved a bit w this but due to time constraint, was not able to pick-up another tub fr a spree order. Hmm... Interesting n curious as why this doc said that it's not good. I better also go ask his PD. Cheers.

Hi Christina, I usually apply physiogel. First time tryin calendula n so far ok. I just mention to the pd tat I just try calendula n she say it's not good. She say I shld stick to physiogel. Mayb if u got second opinion wld b good.

Hi Mummy there,

My coll had 3 children, all excema if wrong consume of foods, according to her, she only can give her youngest bb drink Isomilk (soy base), the bb is allergy to cow protein. Hope this info is help.

Try fresh jasmine flower bud juice.
You can get a pack of fresh jasmine flower buds from most flower shops.
Place 10-20 buds in gauze and dab on affected areas while squeezing the buds to extract the liquid.
Place unused buds in fridge to keep fresh.
The affected area will dry up and clear within a few days.

This is not a permanent cure because if eczema flares up again, you'd need to repeat the treatment but at least it's the most natural method that has worked wonders for my nephew.

Clean baby from inside out and not just by dermatological topical applications..those are short term measures...

alot are often caused by bb's diet..

Those w eczema, take low dairy low gluten diets.

Some common things to do:

1. when bathing baby, dun use water tt's too warm. Warm water dries out the skin.
2. moisturise often. Physiogel is good and doesnt feel so sticky.
3. Stay away from seafood, soy, egg, which are common food that causes eczema.
4. Make sure the room is well ventilated n not dusty. Change the bedsheets often.
5. Dry the joints of perspiration.

From my own experience (fussy sensitive eczema) and kid's

1 Don't over-moisturise/cleanse
2 Stay away from certain ingredients like cuttlefish
3 Change bedlinen/pillow cases often
4 avoid anti-bacterial products - very drying!
5 fragrance-free/natural/mild products
6 use towels only once (don't re-use for a few baths)

My daughter had eczema since she was a baby. We've tried a lot of moisturisers and bath but finally found Aveeno moisturiser to work best. Recommended it to another friend and it also works for her baby. Aveeno bath powder or shower oil is also good for her skin.

I've found that she needs to keep cool (wear thin cool tops & dress) and bath/shower in lukewarm water, not hot water.

I bath and moisturise her everyday to control the eczema and it gets better as they get older. Now she's 4 yrs old and the eczema only comes back once in a while.

hi..my second one gal used to be very bad but now improved alot due to I used purified water to shower her, result can be quite fast if i dun remembered wrongly.

I took her to see Dr Cheong from Skin Specialist centre, been there for almost a year n its very costly... he told me got no cure for eczema but like he suggested, putting alot of moisturers still cannot help her much.

Any help u needs can email e as i do not follow this trait.... i m lookin for vegetarian confinemet lady n happens to c this trait.

My PD recc physiogel as I did not want the steriod creams. Tried physiogel and calendula and found physiogel faster. Though healing takes longer than steriods but well I am not keen on the steriod creams.

Hi all. I know tat i m nt a mum but i am a teen sufering from an on n off eczema. I m currently using QV cream and bath but for me, i feel tat it dries up too quickly. i had to apply the cream every half an hour. My doc recomended physiogel AI cream or intensive cream. I realised that it is super ex. N i m nt from rich family. So i was wondering should i change to physiogel because many people and my doc said so or what? pls advise me coz on one hand, i want to help my family save $ but on the other, i m desperate. I couldnt sleep well, wke up every 2hrs in the night, face feels so tight and itchy, I end up scratching my face raw. I m getting a skin test nxt month but now, i really need a good moisturizer.

pls ask doc on your visit if you can dash some icm white soft parrafin on your face if it's do dry that make it itch..parrafin is very oily and may able to moisturise it. it's meant for severe dry skin eczema, but not sure if it can be applied to face..doc will advise you.

Hi

My 4mths old son has atopic eczema. Went to PDs, GP & both said he's gt sensitive skin. They gv steroid based med which i am totally nt keen at all. Also gv a cream to moisturise. When his rashes gt quite bad, went KKH & dc said he's gt atopic eczema. Dc gv physiogel & ICM Aqueous cream which wrks well. Still unhappy with the results, an aunt recommended to a dc who used to wrk at skin ctr bt nw gt her own clinic. She gv hydrocort(1% steroid), gentle cleanser for face & chlormine for oral. BUT i only use the facial cleanser. 1stly, am nt keen on steroid based med, & 2ndly, chlormine is nt for infants or young children as it can cause drowsiness! Though the dc said it's safe for infants, i still won't gv. A cousin of mine who is a nurse, said that avoid steroid based med for young kids & chlormine too esp for babies. Always go to PDs or KKH for a more accurate diagnose. GPs only hv general knowledge on meds bt nt on paedatric. My cousin has a lot of patients who are wrongly diagnosed by GPs (my cousin wrks in the paed ward). In conclusion, pls go to PDs or KKH.

Hi.

Beezewax. I agree wif u. My doc gave steriod cream to apply on my face. My face did clear of all the rashes. However, a few days later, my rashes came back n full revenge. It was much worse than before. It burns and itch horribly when dry. I have to smeer thick layer of cream to soothe my face. I ever had to use iced water to soak my face when I could not bear the burning pain. Maybe for some people, I would recomend dabbing salt water on the face. I tried and it managed to reduce the rashes by a little. My rashes did seemed a little better after about three days of dabbing with salt water on rash region once in the morning and once at night before sleep. I hope this advice helps. My doc also mention that toothpaste, including for kids, may contain chemicals like SLS, that may worsen the rashes around mouth region. So, maybe mummies may want to help your kids to brush their teeth if your kids have rashes on their face? Try not to allow the paste to touch anywhere other than withn the mouth. For me, I have been using less amount of toothpaste to brush my teeth and was careful to not allow much paste to smear on my rashes that was just around my lips region. I am not sure but I did recover faster than the first time when my rashes appeared. So, either the salt water helped or the not allow tooth paste to smear on my rashes helped.

Hope you find this info useful. I am planning to try drinking carrot juice. I'll see if it helps amd tell you guys if it works or not.

agree that physiogel is good, it works for my gal.. but it's rather exp, but if u get from NSC, it's usually cheaper than outside. also, if u need to go to NSC, u can go polyclinic to get a referral letter, in this case, will be able to enjoy subsidized rates.
U juz have to keep moisturizing and moisturizing to improve the eczema condition.. & there is no cure for it, tat's wat we're being told.

hope this helps...

hi,

my baby was given physiogel but after reading the instructions, i realised is meant for 6mths old baby onwards but my bb is only 4th mth old. pls advise

Hi My son has atopic eczema too.
those cant afford physiogel can try cetaphil intensive moisturiser. buy from spree cheaper...
I do see NUH pharmacy when have promotion for 3 packs also can buy.
Physiogel i find it's more like a lotion but this intensive moistuiser from cetaphil is thick and works like cream.

my son also see a skin specialist at NUH and was recommended to swim at least 3 times a week.
he says that the chlorine at the pool helps.
after swim, rem to apply moisturiser. very impt.

go and try it and hope it works for you all too. in my opinion, request to see a skin doc first if all the creams you tried dun work.

also reminder to all parents who has an infant or children to do a skin prick test. this will be better to find out what kind of allergy they have too.

Hi phloxs

I believe urs is Physiogel AI. I hv both Physiogel cream & AI. I also read that AI is for 6mths n abv. I realised it only when i reached hm therefore, didnt manage to enquire frm pd. Dif in these 2 is that, AI can stop the itchiness + moisturising but the other one will only moisturise. Though my son is 5mths, i still put AI bt very small amt. I use more of the cream.

Why not u ask the dc? Pls post here if u've enquired. Thanks!

Hi mummies, for infant/baby with eczema I use pure olive oil after bath twice gaily, inbetween use Topic cream. It really helps in improving the skin condition, can give a try.

Anybody can recommend your pd/dermatologist or tcm dr that can help bb eczema. My bb now 4.5m has worsening eczema and I'm bf him. Vert stressed. He has it since 1m old and now worsen. Use steroid and cetaphil cleanser.Dun think help much. Has eliminate milk from my diet as i feel he is very allergic to dairy items.

Try dr henry loh at paragon medical centre.he was a pd b4 specialise in dermatology.he's stil see bb skin prob.u chk website on his profile or clinic no to make appt

Hi simp, have u bring yr bb to NSC? I went there after numerous visits to dr/ pd. Given steriod lotion, cream n spray for scalp n it helps. Dr n pd gave me other steroid creams too but wat NSC gave me works. I was told to avoid soap n use bath oil instead n use physiogel to moisturise.

Hi passila, thanks for the refer. Wd take note of him.

Laila, i havn't bring bb to nsc yet. hb wants to wait for this pd who specialize in allergy and let him do food allergy test to determine if there is any allergy or skin/genetic prob. U think going the to nsc is a better choice?Do u know if nutritionist can help me so that my bf with bb can help to improve or manage eczema. Any people u know there?

Hi simp, I got referral ltr to NSC from kkh after spending more than 1k in 1 n half mth goin to various dr n pd. I didn't get to do the prick test coz I gave my bb antihistamine less than 24hrs b4 check up. After tat I c improvement in his skin so I skip on tat n continue with the medication/ instruction. I BF my bb too then so I minus off seafood n other allergens in my diet. They provide me informations on eczema so It helps how to deal with my bb when there's flare ups.

I think it takes a lot of patience, determination, trials and of course money to find the solution for eczema in our babies.
I finally found mine, after all the California Babies, the Babyganics, skin balms and what nots...
he had it bad on his cheeks and his ankles and the solution is:
1. cleanse with warm water and pat dry
2. hydrocortisone cream 0.5% (he was given the 1% cream from GP but i tapered off) fr pharmacy
3. once steroid cream is rubbed into skin, i applied Eucerin dry skin therapy lotion with 12% Omega($29.90 for 250ml)
4. for ankles, i covered up with Tubifast leggings/bandange (a box of 10m - can cut to size, about $15 aft subsidy - from KKH). Reason why i covered up is to prevent him from scratching and also to absorb any moisture

I hope this solution stays though

Dear Parents,

can I know the difference in appearance between eczema and HFMD?

My girl has heat rashes on her body. A few days later, she developed red angry rashes (like mosquito bites) in clusters on her knees and scattered all over her legs and hands. However, she has nothing on her palms, soles and mouth. We brought her to a PD and was told she had HFMD. After 1.5 weeks, the rashes hasn't totally cleared so we brought back to the PD. We were told she has eczema so there were many HFMD spots and told to send her back to school a week later.

Now 2.5 weeks after HFMD starts, she still has a couple of new rashes on her hands and legs. I can't really tell whether they are due to eczema or she hasn't recovered from HFMD.
Can someone advise?

hi cheeri,
why not bring him to dermalogist? Alternatively,u can go for PD who has additional qualification on dermalogist.

mosquito bites are only irritating to toddlers and adults - it is itchy, and we tend to scratch them. For one-month old babies, they don't know it, they don't feel it, and they don't scratch it. For me, I would just leave it alone. If you are still breastfeeding, dab a bit of breastmilk everytime you nurse. I was told that breastmilk is a cure-it-all for many skin conditions - so perhaps can try for mosquito bites!
