Start w Chinese Character first. The chinese word look like piece of drawing. Good for kids.
I start w chinese flashcards w my girl since she is one yr old. but only twice a week. I tried flashing everyday for a week. She lost interest and walk away once she saw me taking out the card. so i tired twice a week. She is very excited whenever i take out. I think attention span very impt. Duration not a factor.
My girl didnt attend any course yet. i think she is not ready yet. Once an experience elder teacher told me. Thing that kids can pick up at certain age, dun do it if she hasnt reach the age. It's double work.

Jeanie, yup same thing. Pic and words is ok. Chinese character the kid has more interests.
U can enrol playgroup for him. I intend to enrol my girl for next yr Apple Tree. is around 195 per month. Consider the cheapest.Just need her to socialise. I dun see the need to send her for 1k+ per month playgroup. Going save up the money for other use. There is more to come when they in primary school. And especially when we have 2nd kid.

Me also still looking for PG. Choa chu kang area. I also looking for something walking distance for mum to send. Some PGs offer bus service but I can't imagine putting our 18 mth on school bus lor. So have to choose nearby. Weekend enrichment then go further. Anyone heard of Ichiban montesorri?

I came across many students in my centre. So i used to receive parents' complaint. Most unreasonable and very protective of their child. They cant accept their kids bad bahavious and insists teachers must pay full attention. But in my heart, I'm thinking u not paying for one - one tuition. {Maybe I'm bad with this thinking}
So i know whatever course my girl attend I need to " see open" . Noisy classroom, crying classmate, violent classmate etc.... all are part of classroom environment and their growing up. As long not too extreme. think, we parent still must learn to accept.
I always believe u get what u pay. I mean enviroment and teacher but not progress. Cuz every child is diff. Cant blame anyone if our child shown no improvement. after all they still young.
Just A joke: My student told me his mum always blame him for being not smart. And say spend lots of money on him for course n tuition. The son replied: After all is ur fault that I'm not smart, U r the one who bring me to this world and must be you and father genes that's y I'm not smart.

So i told them i will send my mum down with my girl doc, but she is illiterate. Can anyone help her fill up. They reply they dun have the time. Me staying in Choa Chu Kang also. Been searching for playgroup but not much good one. The one at sunshine not worth the value we pay. I have been teaching more than 10 yr here so know some inside here n there. Receive quite valuable feedback from my students parents.
Think Apple trees is just a place for my girl to learn in more real life enviroment. She must know how to cope w bullies, crying from her classmate, snatching of toys, pushing...etc..... But maybe she is the one who bully others. Then its time to teach her since her character starts to surface.

Jane, tks. Ya, my husband also always say no choice the tods must learn to face reality of life. At home so protected, everyone gives in to them. Outside they must learn that they don't get what they wan, and also must learn to fend for themselves. Near my block got only ichiban montessori and ace educare. Ace I checked out was very disappointing cos a lot of china helpers and place very "lok"!

The child care stu get more attention and their fee higher based on full day. The centre cant afford to lose them. They let our kids join in , to me is just like trying to make up more stu and earn. The helper is usually the cleaner auntie who take care of their child care meal. No experience in playgroup and always seen missing to do her own meal esp 10am plus. Just my experience.

playgroup suitable age should be 3ys. Cuz they dun need parents by their side. Learn to be independent. However, many start to accept 2.5 yr as to earn. so even 18 mth. Imagine our children now went for playgroup with playmate of 2.5 yr or some even 3ys. how to blend in? Ours still cant be left alone without us.Why some playgroup accept 18mths and above? U realise most of them is child care centre as i mention previous. U see the point. enrichment program is diff. Parents must be accompanied cuz the teacher know they cant handle many kids at a time. And after the class all parents will leave w their child.
Childcare centre is for working mums to leave their children in their care. Working parents cant accompanied them. Therefore playgroup in child care centre dun allowed parent to accompany the child even is only 18mth old. I dun advise playgroup in child care centre.
Reason i choose Apple Tree cuz they do year by year registration. Class start in Jan. All 2009 babies will start in Jan next yr. All will be around same age. though ours is dec babies, only 25mth, there is also sep - nov babies. Therefore more uniform age.

i send my girl for enrichment course today.Her first class since born. Very disappointed. everything not as what i expected.
The classroom is small. Only One teacher in class. She read story from a "big" book, which most student cant see. Parents n children all sit so far away from teacher. A few kids went near teacher and keep pointing at the picture. Those parents just sit there without pulling back their kids.In the end, the rest cant see. Perhap parents are so tired of taking care of them. Just sit there n let the child walk around.
Then two kids knocked against each other and start crying. Parents trying to coax their kids. Waste of time.Teacher are so boring.
Then come art n craft time. colouring n pasting all done by parents and MAIDS. While the little prince n princess sit n watch. Teacher walk around not checking the work or communicating w the children. Instead she chat w the maids.
Then come matching time. Everyone has a set of material to match. Less than 2 mins, they collect back the material. Parents not enough time to guide n some kids had not even start matching it.
Next come singing time. after 2 songs then give musical instrument. One more song w the instrument then collect back. My girl cried when the class just sudden end.
Everything went so fast till me as parent find it so rush n how can kids accept it. No "opening" n worse "no closing ceremony" for every activities. Everything just come n go so fast.
Today lesson suppose to learn a letter sound. The theme is there but no introduction of sound is made. The teacher dun even pronoun the letter n say the sound at all. Can u imagine that? Even before I start my class, i will introduce the topic I'm going thru. Eg....topic "Capacity". e,g "Class, weather hot today. lets drink water together before the lesson start" " How much did u drink?" " Look at ur water bottle, is the volume of water lesser?"
All these was conducted within an hour. Even I feel lost after the class. My girl has no idea what was the lesson abt? Cant even relate anything to me till now?
I dun know is it courses for toddlers suppose to be this way ? Is it I'm too demanding? I'm not blaming the teacher. But I just find it not right. I know I dun have experience teaching toddlers. So not in any position to comment on this?
Anyone send their kids for course? Can advise me?

Ok, we decided to let our bb go for 2-hr playground every wkday downstairs soon (maybe aug or sept period).....;p
Next yr then will expose her to CC.
Sometimes cant stand my MIL as she keeps exposing bb to 'negative' thoughts to bb & will "diao po ling jiang'.
Eveything I do she not happy & feels it's wrong.
She keeps thinking she's the only one understand bb & who knows how to take care of bb....:s

Jane, wat class is dat? The structure for many classes I think also more or less the same but the teachers make the big difference.
Ms tan, wat happened? Old folks sometimes are like dat. My own mum sometimes irritates me too, not to mention mil. But I jialat, can't find playground anywhere near yet lor!!

GG : well, I told her that now bb bigger no need to drink so much milk but feed more food rather but she not happy & can said that bb bigger shld drink more milk instead.
She seems all along like to feed my bb milk rather than food.
She can go behide my back & grumble/complain abt this & that.
I buy bananas & watermelon for bb to eat then she will comment that bananas & watermelon too cooling cannnot eat so often.
Sometimes over the wkend, I will feed bb 'special/different food' (as I like to expose bb to different food) then the next day (Mon) when bb poo, she can comment wat I feed bb ?
Boi tahan her.

Is Phonic class. The teacher cant catch the kids attention. Just like she living in her own teaching world. Those parents made no effort in asking the kids to sit. I know it's difficult ctrl them but if they wan to wander, can. Do it at the corner. But they just let the kids wander in the teaching area, n the rest cant see wat the teacher is teaching. Parents just sit still. Should pull back their kids. Then accident happened, kids bang into each other heads and crying start. Teacher stop teaching and time waste.

I didnt try the trial class. I just register for the actual class. i tot should be fine since parents must accompany the kids. At least more control environment. Now think I should see how the subsequent lesson goes.
MIL is like these. I feed my girl ice cream n durian before she turns 8 mth. just a small portion can one lar. Only those elderly too nagging. I feed her lesser milk cuz now she is taking proper meal twice a day.

Parents just sit still. Should pull back their kids. Then accident happened, kids bang into each other heads and crying start. Teacher stop teaching and time waste.

I didnt try the trial class. I just register for the actual class. i tot should be fine since parents must accompany the kids. At least more control environment. Now think I should see how the subsequent lesson goes.
MIL is like these. I feed my girl ice cream n durian before she turns 8 mth. just a small portion can one lar. Only those elderly too nagging. I feed her lesser milk cuz now she is taking proper meal twice a day.

Ms tan, I see. I kena from my mum when I let my son eat yogurt and happen dat he gets cough next day. And weekend I cook pasta for my son I think my mil also like to peep and see wats that. Same when I give avocado. Actually most food eat in moderation ok one la.
As for milk I kena from my mum when I told her no need give so much. End up I give up liao since she still got give him 3 proper meals, just dat she also give 4 milk feeds of 240ml. U close eye as long my son still takes.

Jane, Tks for sharing. There is one zoo phonics near my plc too but I saw some not so good reviews so gave it a miss. Most classes for tods have more than 1 teachers unless class size v small. GUG has 2 teachers per class, JG has 4, my little genius has only 1 teacher but only 4 tods in a class so still not so bad. Maybe see if u can feedback to school or ask if can withdraw if really no good.

There is 5 Apple Tree centres in cck. The nearest i think is blk 340. Just opposite lot 1. U stay near yew tee? Can try the tumble tot. Me not sure good or not. But seemed better than Apple tree. Is too far from my place.
