Hi All,

After hearing a friend sharing about delivery during emergency situation, my wifey is quite concern about the cost if this really happen to us. Anywhere i can find the information or any one able to share?

Emergency Situation like water bag burst/leak, or unexpected emergency situation that caused delivery to be way ahead of EDD

TIA

Water bag burst is quite normal... it's usually where BB telling mommy that it's time...

Hence, unless there are complications when your wife decided 2 have a natural birth, but due 2 certain situations, have 2 go 4 emergency c - sect, den it may b costly. As u wld have 2 b transferred fr a delivery ward 2 d Op Theater.

Not sure where u r coming from, so u may wanna provide more info?

@tiggerpooh , hmmm... i mean more like emergency situation when we have to deliver the baby before full term. So the baby have to stay at NICU, and will private hospital have facilities to support or we have to be transferred to public hospital like KK? My wifey is quite concern about the cost factor, I am also checking out if insurance does cover for such situation

is your wife having twins or gynea commented dat it's a complicated pregnancy?

KKH wld have better facilities for NICU den most hospitals. Not sure but I think if your wife choose to deliver @ KKH but decided 2 go 4 Class A ward, child's costs is tagged 2 mother's. Hence, it will b class A charges for child's NICU costs too.

I m sure there r insurance dat covers such situation.

However, do try not 2 overly worried... may not b v gd 4 her n child's well being.

4 me... when i was pregnant wif DD... I had some complications. I wanted 2 give birth naturally but due 2 low placenta, gynea told me dat it may not b possible 4 me. I keep "talking" 2 my DD n tell her dat i prefer natural birth as I wld recover faster n wld b able 2 take care of her myself. In d end, I told my gynea dat i have chosen a date 4 c-sect. However, if DD decides 2 come early, I wld go 4 natural birth. My gal decided she wants 2 come early... so we had a natural birth...

Actually, so far gynae has yet to comment much as still early. Just that my wifey worried that the cost will be a bomb for us if she happens to be a complicated pregnancy. We are with Dr Wendy Teo for now and thinking about delivering in Mt E Novena. But if the cost is very high then have to reconsider

Well... usually gynea will offer "package" after d detailed scan. If your wife is comfortable wif Dr Teo, den unless doc tells u otherwise, everything shld b fine...

A responsible gynea will let d mommy 2 b know if there is complication 2 better plan financially. However, if wife is just worried about financial in general, mayb it wouldnt b such a bad idea 2 switch 2 KKH? This will not make her worry unnecessarily n better for her well-being.

Thanks @tiggerpooh , will see how things go after the wk20 detailed scan. will find out more before discussing with my wifey. Now too early to decide on anything as well. If possible i do hope my wifey have a comfortable first pregnancy

A general guide is that KKH has he most comprehensive NICU wards. If someone goes into birth early, some just goto KK A&E. Depending on your financial circumstances, even your gynae may recommend that. The estimated cost of NICU is $1,000++ per day. Depends if additional treatment or tests are required. I know who spent above $60k in NICU when baby came at 28w. They spend the next few years paying for the bill after wiping out Medisave. The kid is already 11 now
