Hello,

My recent scans showed that I have endometrial and endocervial polys, three of them. I had wanted to go for IVF already but the doctor said the IVF dept did not allow as she said the IVF side wants me to remove the polyps first. Hence, the doctor could not refer me to IVF.
The doctor mentioned that the polyps may flushed out on their own without the need for surgery. So i asked the doctor to refer me to IVf counselling first while deciding if I want to do surgery. But the doctor said the IVF dept dun allow. I have to do the clear the polyps first. Is it really like this? Has anyone experienced this before?

The hospital I went to is KKH. I am apprehensive of the surgery so I not able to decide there and then. I also forgot to ask abt the cost of this surgery. Anyone knows the cost?

Currently, I oly scheduled another date to do a scan again to see if the polyps are still there.

What would you do if you are me?

Thank you to anyone who share their experiences and views.

If you don’t remove them, implantation is impossible.
I removed 3 endometrial polyps 2 weeks ago, it was hysteroscopic procedure under sedation anasthesia, 2500$ at nuh as a private patients, can claim medisave, medishield or private insurance.
Actually I failed my first ivf because of polyps, it was a chemical pregnancy.

Thanks for sharing. So was your ivf successful after the removal? Does polyps hinder conceiving naturally?

Polyps can hinder conceiving naturally because it depends on where the embryo lands. If the embryo lands on the polyp, implantation can't take place. Even if it does, you won't know if the polyp will "harm" the embryo.. However, there are alot of woman around the world who did not know that they have polyps or cyst and conceived naturally only to find out during ultrasound that there is a polyp/cyst. That said, of course having a clean womb increases the chances of implantation. I did hysteroscopy to clear a polyp in March because i did not want any hindrance to hinder my success, (already failed 4 transfers and had 1 miscarriage due to different reasons..) started my FET journey in mid april, and am currently 9 weeks pregnant. All the best to you!

Hi, I have been diagnosed with endometrial polyp and PCOS. Trying to get preggy soonest possible. Is there a gynae you would recommend to remove the polyps?

I had 3 polyps removed at NUH with Dr Anupriya Agarwal, so can recomnend her as a good, gentle, detailed doctor.

Hi, I’m new in this forum. I’m 35yrs and I went for fertility check at Thomson Fertility Centre and report showed I have a polyps in my uterus. Dr Loh suggested I consider to remove to increase chance for pregnant. He did refer me to TMC & told me if I have insurance then can claim.
Now I’m not sure if there’s any public hospital that I should consider instead or private clinic cos I’m worried it will be very expensive. Nuh seems to be a good option, Is KKH good?
Are the doc from these hospital will also be our gynea in the future or we could change again if we really got pregnant?
Sorry for such silly questions, just feeling quite lost on all these.
Hope you girls can guide me;)

Dear all I want to share my experience on two polyp removal. My doc was recommended by my sis, Dr Bernard chern from kkh. He is terrific. He put me for a day surgery of like 15 mins without sedation, as this incurs the less harm for body and is the cheapest, sgd 1500 about there.
N cos uterus has no nerve cell I think that's why can do like that.
Really thank God for guiding me to Dr chern and staff at kkh is also all superb.

Hi, I just recently underwent laparoscopy to remove 3 polyps, along with cysts and fibroids. I highly recommend Dr Cathryn Chan Weng Buen from Astra Women Specialist clinic. She’s known for her stitching skills and my wounds are recovering very well. Best of luck!
It is nice to hear a different view of Dr Cathryn Chan. Does anyone else have a good experience with her?

I'd also like to recommend my gynae Dr Ben Choey at AMK. He was the one who removed my endometriosis prior to ttc. He's an excellent doctor :)

Hi ladies, I also had a bad experience at KKH. I have been doing checks since end of 2019 in order to prepare for conceiving. Last scan at SKH showed everything was ok, I just had irregular menses which I thought could be my weight factor as well. Docs I went at KKH is always different as I am a subsidized patient. They encouraged me to try naturally first. On dec 2020, I went to KKH for follow up and the scanned showed something in my uterus. The on call doc was not helpful and even traumatized me with all the risks. He said it could be a polyp or just my own lining growth and asked me to go for surgery. Naturally, being in that state of mine, I did not agree. I have decided to seek another opinion from another doc in Novena. Will be seeing him on Friday to get another opinion. So if go KKH I would suggest to request for the docs. Will help make this less stressful.

Hi all,

@Cindy.ksw and @TOMATOGAL33, How was the doctor Chern Bernard at KKH hospital. This friday I have an appointment with him. Is it good to get consulation with him? Let me know if you have any other reviews about him. Thanks in advance.

Hi! I have the same condition. I used to go to a private clinic, now have been referred to KKH. My private Dr removed my cysts and polyps for me. As far as I understand, because the IVF procedure at public hospital is subsidised by Govt, it is a requirement for any growths to be removed. They want a “clean slate” to improve chances of success.

But if you do at private clinic, you don’t get subsidy, so you can choose not to do the surgery and still do IVF. But of course, your Dr will recommend whether or not she thinks u shld remove as she knows ur situation best.

Hope this helps!

Hey all
Ive a suspected polyp removal feb 2020 and in oct 2020 when I did my IUI they realised a growth again less than 1cm. I’m planning for ivf and my doc at kkh says not necessary to remove it as a lot of people with polyp can get preggy too. Hmm how man?

I went to check and had detected polyps too. Private doc previously from kkh head said okay to try naturally since it may or may not affect implantation. However i didn't and got it removed cos read up and there were risk example cannot implant properly etc. I managed to conceive naturally 2 months post surgery.

Hi all, just to update. I decided to go for a second opinion at Novena Mt E. Even if I needed surgery, I wanted someone more professional, experienced and reliable. I was prepared to go surgery and all. Before the surgery, I did my second scan at Mt E and it turned out there was no polyp. It was a real emotional roller coaster. What I learnt is to always go for a second opinion if unsure or uncomfortable and check with the doc thoroughly for any surgical procedures to be done. I am now seeing Dr Khoo at Mt E and will be following him from now.

Hi there. Yes. In fact before surgery, we did a scan and found a few polyps. Post surgery gynae found more polyps hidden, and cyst and confirmed I had mild endo. Cleared everything during surgery.

I have 2 friends who went through the same and got pregnant v shortly too.

Hi! I did my endometrial polyps removal surgery 2 weeks ago but seems to be a dull ache in my lower body till now, not sure if this is normal? And I feel as though my constitution weakened so badly after!

@Conybun, Did you done the polyp removal with Anesthesia or without? If it was without Anesthesia, can you tell me how was the experience like pain on all at that time? Becoz mine is coming up. Thanks in advance.

Hello dear, can you share where did you went for the polyp removal and any recommended doc and charges that you can share? Thanks!

Hi @Chamomile21 , I removed my polyp on 19th Feb. I consulted with Bernard Chern in KKH. My experience was good with him. He only recommended to do hysteroscopic procedure without anesthesia. I'm a DP holder here so my expense without anesthesia was $2600 for that day alone. Hope this information will help. Thanks

Thanks for your advice! I have jus booked an appt with NUH and hopefully can schedule it soon. Let's wish all of us best of luck and faith during this journey!

Hi all, I am recently diagnosed with the same issue as you well :/

I've visited a private doctor and would like to proceed with the surgery at a government hospital.

Would like to seek your advice, as a private patient, what should I do next?

- Call the hospital directly to book and appointment? If yes, how long is the waiting time?
- what are the things to expect after the first appointment?

Thanks so much in advance.

Hi all, my private gynae suggested me to remove my polyp once and for all since it has been sometime and has not cleared by itself. The cost is around 8K and so I like to ask if I like to get subsidized, do I have to go to the polyclinic first so that I can be referred to a gov hospital? or can I simply make an apt with the gov hospital? How long will this take and the cost for surgery? Can anyone share their experience? Thanks for any advice.

You can go to the polyclinic to get a referral letter to kkh. This is the cheaper route. Downside is waiting time.

Hi @Junie14 , I'm a foreigner so with anesthesia it was costly so I went without anesthesia still for me it was 4k. But it doesn't had much pain. its like normal menstrual cramps. Doctor only recommended for us to go without anesthesia and he was very friendly, talkative person.. I'm person who cant bear needle pain too :) so if I can then anybody can go.

Hi @Catalyia, thanks for the info! It was really helpful! Just to confirm, your surgery was for endometrial polyps right? Do we need to take any painkillers or do any preparation beforehand? How long did the procedure take? Sorry for the many questions, feeling abit concerned about the pain if I opt to go without anesthesia at all.

I have scheduled my appointment to see Dr Bernard Chern as well based on the reviews i have seen here!

Hi @Junie14, yes, mine was endometrial polyps. Yes there some preparation beforehand and they will guide you and will explain everything in detail(painkillers, gas tablets, some cervix loosing tablets). When I consulted Dr. Bernard he was just explaining things and I thought he was not very friendly but in operation room he was really kind, very talkative to make me feel comfortable. And that time there was 1 girl as assistant she was also really super good. They told me mostly those who are working professionals they come, do the surgery and after that they will go to office too. After surgery they will be slight bleeding for 2 or 3 days that depends with ppl. After surgery also there was some slight cramping too but that was just fine. Let me know if you have any other doubts :)

We discovered I had endometrial polyps when me and my hubby underwent fertility assessment. We were seeing Dr Chen Chern Yi at Novena then. She suspected it was the main cause of our difficulty getting pregnant and had scheduled to have them removed as soon as possible. No problems or complications with the surgery as Dr Chen is quite good. The procedure was quick too. Now me and hubbs are trying again. Hoping for good news soon.
