Hi,

My 7 weeks old daughter failed her OAE hearing test 3 times and failed her ADR advance hearing once at hospital. Now she refer to a specialist at mount Elizabeth to do another hearing test.
Has any mummies encounter this situation before and turn out baby to be fine?

I'm seriously worried.

Was she a premmie and in nicu? Did she take any drugs there?

My girl failed her hearing test twice for one of the ear in the hospital. Went back to retest and turn out well.

The doctor said sometimes the ear will be blocked by some fluid and will slowly cleared after a few weeks or so.

Hi, My girl failed a total of 4 times before she was 1 year old!
But god bless after her birthday she passed the hearing test! Don worry!

Talking about hearing, i wish to share with mummies..should your child at an older age group complains on noise hearing in the eat, plrase make appoitment to health promotion board for ear check..it happen on my child and turned out both her ear drum was filled with ear wax..hpb will do ear syringing at just $4..and kid will be very happy and stress free from the noise ordeal.

Sorry Fair Princess late reply as Was bz with my children exam periods which was over.
My girl took at TMC. Thomson medical centre.

Hi,

My baby also encounter this problem since born, he failed four times OAE test and abr test at parkway east for his right ear, then was refer to kk hospital and fail both ears at there, need to go for a detail scan on aug'14.

Very worried abt it!

all kids develop at different speeds, so sometimes comparing one child's development with others may lead to unnecessary worries. What does the doctor recommend?

Hi, my kid is mild loss. As I did not let him go through sedation during testing. The ent say needs to test again when he gets older. But now he is six months old, he seems hearing quite normally. Like we call out his name he will respond...calm down when we sings to him. Your kid failed the test too?

My kid failed the test in his left ear four times, scheduled for the detailed test (sedation) in Jan. I am quite worried.

Hi pls do not worry too much though I know it's impossible. Failing the screening test doesn't mean he really can't hear esp for your case the baby already got one ear which is normal. For mine, he failed both ears. But the test results indicate he can hear most sounds just might miss "s" or "c "sounds.

Thanks for the information. Did your child do the detailed test? I am just afraid that it will affect his speech development.

Yes he did. But will be testing again to see any improvements or deterioration. I think if his one ear is fine. The other ear can hear more than 50% ...don't think will need hearing aid. Just need to monitor any speech delays with the speech therapist.

So your child went through sedation for the detailed test? If not what test he did? How is he doing right now? Any speech delays for him? Sorry for asking so many questions, am so troubled now.

He is only 6 months old. So can't really tell. The tests done are Assr and SEP test...don't be so troubled. I went through the same thing as you few months ago only. He is as bubbly as my first born. I think for your case...seems to be less worrying as one ear is already confirm normal

But I clapped my hands beside his left ear when he is sleeping but no respond. So newborns or 1 month old babies responds when they are sleeping?

Hey hey new borns are not so sensitive to sounds de. I also did that and got myself very worried. So relax.

easier said than done but please try not to worry my ds (now 5) failed his first test in both ears but then passed the 2nd. Most of the time these things are something really easy to fix, even if there is a problem, a blockage of wax, or a wee bit of mucus can be the cause, the fact as well that the other ear is totally fine is very reassuring and the fact that your mw is not worried I would try not to as well xx

Hi, you mentioned that your son went through the assets and sep tests, do those test during sedation? The ENT specialist recommended me to go for the sedation test.

Hi, thanks for the information. But my son failed his left ear four times, very worried. Doctor said his ear is clear from fluid and wax. This made me even more worried. Not sure if he can see the middle ear/canal though.

Hi, my baby is a 35+ preemie and failed her hearing test upon discharge. She is 6 weeks old now and failed her 2nd test and will be referred to ENT. At times we thought she is startled by noises but yet she failed her test. Super worried. Any one has same experiences?

my baby also failed her hearing test 6 times (from birth, 2 times before discharge, 1 time at mt alvernia where she was born, 3 times at kkh ent) now scheduled for detailed scan nx month. i'm super worried. anyone can share their experience of the detailed scan? were the results as expected from the failed screening test? :(

One of my twins baby boy (T1) also failed the test at birth, 2 weeks and recent ABR at 12 weeks old. ENT referred to so SSEP (sedation) test in Dec. Very worried now. ):

My baby passed his newborn hearing test at kkh and last week he is 11 weeks old we went to ent kkh to do the hearing screening test and his ears failed bilaterally during OAE test and now they advised at to do another hearing test. I’m very worried and crying everyday and praying very hard that his ears will turn normal. Before he can hear sounds of slamming doors and people talking and thunderstorm or he will startle to voices and noises around but now even I used the bell or rattle or call his name he don’t hear us at all. I’m very worried

Anyone who experience this ?
