2017 Twins Pregnancy

Hello, maybe you'd like to do a search online cos there are different websites that compare delivery charges between private and restructured hospitals. I think the concern for twins is more of the possibility of incurring high charges should they be delivered early and require neonatal care. Hence most mummies would choose a govt hospital to be on the safe side.

If you go kkh or nuh, they will probably refer you directly to the high risk or maternal-fetal specialists. I'm seeing associate consultant Dr Daniel Koh fr Kkh. Have only seen him once and find him quite nice and careful (though a bit on the kancheong side)

Some mommies prefer to start with oscar (cheaper) and then move on to harmony (more ex) if there is a need to. Some prefer to do harmony directly.

It is possible to deliver twins naturally though I suppose if the situation then presents something unexpected, eg. one of the twins is in breech position, then probably still have to go csect.

On another note, anyone heard of the igene test? Their website shows very good results- like much lower false positives/ negatives for trisomies compared to other nipts. They also claim to be able to pick up other genetic disorders. But have not heard of this test other than the trial in nuh. There's nothing much on the internet also - only some discussions from mommies in Australia. Anyone doing this test?

Hi elysch, thanks a lot for your reply. I have tried googling for comparison but unfortunately couldn't find much information on the prices. I will try again this weekend.

Are you expecting twins too? May I know how did you get assigned to dr koh at kkh? Did you get a referral letter from the polyclinic? I read online that to get a subsidised rate, you need to obtain a referral from the polyclinic. I'm not so sure what are the price differences for subsidised and private patients. We are pretty worried that the twins might arrive early and require neonatal care which will cost a bomb. Do you mind sharing the fees that you paid for your visit? Also I'm currently 10 weeks along, is that too far along to change gynae? Have you decided which test you are going for?

Yeah having dadc twins. I did a foolhardy thing by walking straight into the O&G clinic as a private patient cos of a minor bleeding episode in wk 7. So they followed up on me as private patient, and the nurse then assigned me to Dr Koh cos I asked for a 'nice dr' lol. I had one other gynae in mind but her schedule is too packed to accommodate me :(

If you go through as a subsidised patient, my understanding is that you may be seeing different doctors. But that should be alright cos further down the road, if you want to stick to one particular dr you like, you can always make the switch. In kkh (not sure for other hospitals) they charge consultation fees according to dr's rank (associate consultant, consultant, senior consultant). I paid $191 excl gst for first consultation + ultrasound scan + obstetric routine test (I think it was the urine test)

Hope this helps.

Hi if u are having Non identical twins the risk are lower because each baby has their own sac n amnoic fluid. However as with all twin pregnancy there are still risk of premature n other pregnancy complication. An experienced dr can managed u well don't have to worry. My dr is sf Loh Pte at tmc. Total bill after subsidy cash around 10k. This pricing is in 2016. He manages my pregnancy very well n told me if risk of premature he will refer me to public hospital.

Is your dr based in nuh? Can share his name? N what are the price differences?
Im with Dr Choolani at his private clinic in Mt E. He also sees patients at nuh. The cost is around 1.5k, and I read from this forum that some mummies pay 1-1.2k for harmony. So I was actually thinking if I only do the base 3 that harmony offers, then this test is quite ex. Yet, if there's high false positive for the others it may give us unnecessary stress. Dilemma!

Thanks for your reply. The price that kkh charges is slightly cheaper than what I'm currently paying. I'm considering switching to kkh as a private patient due to the waiting time involved.

Anyway, are you experiencing any backache that seem to radiate all the way from your back to your butt and thigh? I've been plagued by this ache for more than a week and it's causing me to limp when I walk. I'm hoping it's nothing serious and that it will go away soon.

Hi bunny33, did you opt for c sect? Did you deliver your twins at full term? Did your bill include any stay in icu?

Im experiencing back and groin pain. Apparently all these pain are common during pregnancy. Of cos its good to let ur doctor know, to be safe.
I attended kkh antenatal classes. 1st class is conducted by physiotherapist. She shared standing posture so that we dun strain on lower back; getting up the bed, stretching exercise.
Consider such classes, will benefit you

Hi I was encouraged to try natural birth because my twins were in a good position n heads down. However third trimenster I started having many problems like GD, high bp n Low fluid. My second twin was not growing for two weeks. High bp is risk of preclempsia n twin 2 not growing could be my placenta not working well to provide nutrients anymore. Also I have mild contraction at week 33 n was given drip to stop contraction. He suggested me to give birth early due to risk involved. I was quite upset at that time but what he said make sense. Baby in my womb are like African not enough nutrients to grow. Bring them out they become spore citizen with good food. I was at week 35 then. He said there may be a possibility that babies need nicu but he felt they should be fine n even if need to it won't be Long stay. So date was fixed to csect at week 35+. Csect instead of the initial natural birth because of my high BP. My babies indeed come out fine. Twin 1 at 2.2kg n twin 2 at 2kg. No need nicu or special care unit. Both discharge same day as me.
Don't worry too much. Rest more n eat well most impt.

A word of advise for twin mummies. Managing twins really not easy. U must be mentally prepared so that when the time comes u know how to handle n won't be so hard on yourself. Get all things ready n all the help u can get. Jia you.

Hi, both gynaes that I've seen suggested csect because it is safer for both babies. I'm worried abt the recovery and that I won't be able to nurse and care for them. Are your twins fraternal or identical? I'm having mcda twins so there's more risks involved. I hope my twins grow equally and healthily together given there's only one placenta for them to share. Any tips to provide during pregnancy? My appetite has not been very good and I've not gained any weight since my pregnancy. I'm hoping they are absorbing all the nutrients from whatever I've been able to eat.

Mine not identical. I didn't gain weight during my pregnancy too but babies still growing well. Try to hit the 2kg mark for both during last tri. I ate avocado n drink milk. Csect recovery should be ok by two weeks. U can consider hiring a cl to help for one mth. The challenge is not during pregnancy but taking care of them when they are out. So if your family can help will be great. Don't worry so much for now. Leave it to the dr to handle it.

My mil has offered to help with my confinement to save costs, so will not be hiring a cl as it's near to cny period and charges are exorbitant. Ya trying to take things easy and one step at a time for now. Thanks for your advice. Really appreciate it cause I personally do not have any friends or family members who are having or have had twins, so I'm at a loss.

hi, I'm having the same situation as you now. I'm currently at 23 weeks and seeing as private at TMC. now doctor refer me to kkh but I still prefer to find a good doctor at kkh as private patient. Any mummies can advise any good doctor at Kkh?

TIA

Hi all mummies, currently at 23 weeks
Do you feel lesser movements with one of the twins during pregnancy. One of mine is very active and i can hardly feel the other. Getting worried

Hi, I am currently week 26 and people have been telling me I look small for twins. Any mummies faced the same situation and both babies came out fine and healthy?

Been measuring my bump, growth not even an inch per month. Weight gain seems fine for me and week 24 checkup all good too.

I wanted to share a good reviews of my greatest CL, Aunty Nee who is from Malaysia too. 2 Years ago I'd engaged a terrible CL caused my whole confinement period went to a big mess. Thank God I've found Aunty Ah Nee, a professional and friendly CL this time for my confinement and both my twins baby She tooks very good care of me and especially both my twins too. What I can say is Aunty Nee was more concern about my baby. This is my first time handling a twins, I was so gancheong because they was very small at first but luckily I had Aunty Nee here for me and also taught me a lot of how to handle twins and all kinds of information that I had to know but I don't really know about them. No matter in cooking, handles my babies needs, hygiene and so on, she manages everything smooth and nice. She is a very responsible CL that I've ever seen so far. Any mommies who are looking forward for a good CL can look for Aunty nee. Trust me, you won't regret and I guarantee you will be thankful for engaging such a great CL.+601136539563 is her number. Can whatsapp her if you want to.
