Craft and cookery ideas for toddlers

Sharing a fun and simple "no bake" cookery project I did with my toddler over Christmas last year. Good opportunity for little ones to practice their fine motor skills. I melted 2 large bars of chocolate (1 milk and 1 70% cocoa dark chocolate), mixed them with a bowl of plain cereal and got my toddler to add the sprinkles. We packed them into individual bags and she brought them to school for her teachers and classmates.

Hot air Balloon craft
A fun way to introduce children to different modes of transport. Little one made her own hot air balloon by pasting any material they fancy on a paper plate to decorate the balloon and painting a paper cup as the basket. Simply punch holes and connect the two using twine/ribbons or whatever you can get your hands on.

Cow lunch bag craft
Introducing dairy cows which provides us milk to build strong healthy bones. The little one created her own cow by pasting pre-cut black spots, nose and eyes on a brown paper bag.

Carrot craft
Following a trip to the supermarket to learn about fruits and vegetables, the little one made her very own carrot by painting a piece of paper orange and rolling it into a cone to form the body and scrunching crepe paper as leaves.20170630_001003.jpg

20170730_221855.jpg Learning about their little hands as part of a broader theme on their body. The little one created little hand prints using paint and incoprporated them into a craft. Also a good opportunity for them to experiment with colors.

As part of familiarisation with fruits, the little was introduced to oranges- their distinct properties as well as the fact that they come in various sizes. the little one was encouraged to paint in circular motion to create the oranges. Next, she pasted pre-cut construction paper to create her very own orange tree.
