Mummies with hypothyroidism

Any mummies here have had hypothyroidism and yet managed to conceive successfully?

I was diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism and wonder if it is causing me difficulties to get pregnant? I am on thyroxine at the moment.

I feel so depressed every time when I see AF!

Hi YahisaMai,
sorry don't have success story to share yet.. . but i have Qs.
just wondering what is your thyroid panel results to be considered sub clinical? What is yr target level while on meds.for TSH, T3 T4.

my thyroid was not optimal, TSH was ard 3.1, after MC.

Was told to get it to TSH 2.5 or less, and another dr advised me optimal is 1, esp since i am on meds. i have monitored and managed to achieved close to 1 on levothyroxine

Hi.

My T3 and T4 is normal but TSH is too high, higher than yours. But my doctor did not tell me what optimal level I need to achieve. I just started my med not long ago and will be scheduling another blood test soon.

Is your T3 and T4 too low? So when you achieve TSH close to 1, did your T3 / T4 went up?

not many docs will tell u optimal unless u go to a functional medicine doctor / integrative doc. very few in Sg. it is also mentioned in the book i recommended.

my T3/ T4 was lower half of the range before. now it is in the upper 25% of the range.

Update: Sorry, i checked my report again, just realised i didn't test T3 this round. TSH at 1, T4 at 15.8 (above 50% but not upper 25% as i initially thought), compared w an earlier results my free T4 was 10.8 (on lower dose med) in September.

but my earlier T4 range in 2012 is 16.9 before i had thyroid surgery.

Wow, your T4 went up so much?

Are you being seen by an endocrinologist? How come T3 was not tested?

Just had my blood test done, will be getting the results soon... I am currently being seen by my gynae... but wondering if I should be going to endocrinologist instead....

my results T4 seems to fluctuate a little. clinics in public hospitals don't seem to do T3 routinely. I will try to ask next time.

I am seeing an endocrinologist, as well as functional med doctor. Some O&G can help.

for me it is just more convenient to see my Endo regularly for bloodtaking, than to see my gynea.

back in aug, i did a full panel at private lab.
with only 12.5mg meds ,
my T4 was 13.7 and
T3 was 5
TSH was 2.1
looked pretty good.

surprisingly when i increased my meds, after discussing w my doc somehow my TSH went up to 3. it could be how i taking my meds, and it wasn't absorbing.

after that fine tune meds 2 more rounds and blood tests to get to where i am now.

My blood test results was just out.... TSH shot up to 7.... :(

My body doesn't seem to be reacting to the medicine as well...

oh no... how long have u been on the meds?

are u taking it w empty stomach, and wait for an hr before u eat?

It could take a few adjustments , and increased dosage.

I read in that book some ppl don't do well just on levo thyroxine, need to tweak the meds sometimes, to include T3 med.

I have been on the meds for 3 months... and yes, empty stomach and 1 hour before food.

I am also taking other supplements and I don't know if it is the cause? The gynae said it is okay though but just to be on the safe side, will stop taking them also.

I am now taking a different brand of thyroxine with lesser dosage, blood test again 3 months later.

Yah, understand need to trial and error on the dosage and medicines and such.. just feel helpless at all the time wasted... Aii....

if time is of essence, don't have to wait 3 months to test. I've tested every month at one point. minimally 2 weeks to take effect, according to my doc.

Also, have they run full panel test including all the antibodies, to rule out things like hashimoto disease?

Good luck!

Hi, I am TTC and recently found that I have high TPO antibodies. Would appreciate if you all can share more information with me. Thank you so much!

I was hyper then well controlled for many years, then became subclinical hypo. Endocrinologist started me on thyroxine coz he said it will be better if i wanna bear children in the future and fell pregnant about 2 years after. TSH, T3 and T4 are all closely monitored during the entire pregnancy.

Thank you for your reply. As for now my thyroid hormones are all in ranges, except I have very high TPO antibodies. May I know if you are conceived naturally? Some research said that it might link to infertility. Doc asked me to take thyroxine but I’m bit hesitating as afraid that I might need to take this medication forever. Any advice? Thanks!

Hihi, yup, conceived naturally, it was an "accident" actually
My TSH was borderline high so doc said to start thyroxine if i wanna have a baby in the near future (conceived after 1.5 years from that conversation).
Now I'm taking thyroxine still and i think it will be for a very long time but I'm ok about it.
I still feel it was a good decision back then when i started taking them.

Hope that helped =)

I have very high TPO as well if you could refer to my results and I was on euthyroxin. I guess it does affect my fertility coz my lining and everything else is ok but always have implantation issues. I didn't take it forever...once the levels are controlled, I was off it already. But during my IVF cycles, I was also given other meds like aspirin, prednisolone (i.e. steriods).

@milogal88, thanks for your experience sharing. I have exactly the same issue as you. Both antibodies are high whereas thyroid hormones still within normal range. May I know why you took euthyroxine since your hormones within range? Is it for ivf purpose? Does it help? I’m considering ivf too. Thank you very much. You can PM me.

Yes, euthyroxin helps to bring down the levels and I did IVF. I did a fair bit of research coz my eggs and lining are perfect but always implantation failure. And that's where I found out more abt Dr Sheila Vasoo. So she kinda work hand in hand with my IVF doc and she will work out the plan on what med to take based on your IVF cycles.

@milogal88 thanks for sharing. I seriously lost when I knew that I have high thyroid antibodies when TTC. May I know how was the outcome of IVF and which IVF doctor would you recommend? Thanks a lot!

Don't worry ok. At least you know the underlying issues and you can target it to get it right. With the right docs, treatment plan and positive mindset, things will work out eventually but of coz, certain things are still beyond our control.

I succeeded with twins and they are 5yo now. My IVF doc was Dr Tan Heng Hao & he was from KKH. You can search on him in this forum and he has magic hands & a lot of supporters. But he's in pte practice now. But I was told, his fees are very reasonable for pte doing IVF. Unfortunately, going pte means you won't enjoy the grant. He's very gentle, calm, assuring doc with a lot of empathy. Not to mention, eye candy and charismatic haha. He also delivered my twins.

@milogal88 Thank you so much for your encouragement and so glad to know about your succeed in ivf with twins. Really happy for you! May I know how low your antibody level was when you tried ivf?

I can't rem but it was in a lower level for sure after taking euthoryx and more or less stabilized before I tried IVF. but i also did TCM with acupuncture. I feel it helps boost my chances as well.

Hi. I’m trying to conceive and wanted to do IUI. But my TSH level was 3+ mU/l and the doctor said my TSH level has to be below 2.5 before I can proceed to do IUI. Thus, I am taking thyroxine now and after a few weeks, my TSH level dropped to 1.6 mU/l. Does anyone know is it that TSH level to be below 2.5 mU/l too in the first trimester to avoid miscarriage?
Need to take thyroxine throughout the whole pregnancy? Thanks in advance.
