Gestational diabetes

I had GD during my final weeks of my pregnancy... To ensure that your levels are within normal range, you need to work very hard on your diet.

No sugary stuffs at all and I went to buy those cookies which is for diabetes. Even for fruits, I was very strict, Only ate green apples but i ate loads of greens to ensure that I don't constipate. Also I avoided eating out even for soupy stuffs as I always fail my prick tests even eating fish soup. (Makes me wonder what did they use to brew the soup).

Press-On and Good Luck!

Sigh I have just been diagnosed with the above, anyone out there with tips?

Your gynae would have sent you to see a dietician. You will have to follow the recommended diet strictly.
Bottomline, take small frequent meals, always pair carbohydrate with protein and avoid sweet stuff on its own.

I had GD for all 3 pregnancies, this is my third. But this time round seems better. My reading after the 2 hours glucose drink is 8.3. I have to prick 3 times daily, 2 hours after meal and so far seems ok. Reading is usually around 6.2 - 6.8. What about yours?

I am diagnosed with GD at 20+ wks.. went to see a dietitian n cos my glucose reading hv been good, gynea only requires me to do pricking alternate wk.. trick is to cut carbs to half portion each meal n have 6 meals a day instead of 3.. also no can drinks except if no sugar...

I was diagnosed at 25 weeks - my reading was high and needed to prick 7x a day. I tried to cut out all white rice and made sure I had a salad for a meal every other day. No fried food for me either or pizza because those were terrible for my readings. I snacked on plain crackers and sometimes had grilled fish for meals. Only ate wholemeal bread. I was also induced at 38 weeks..

My frien has the same problem when she was pregnant, she tried isotonix product which her husb was taking - to control the sugar level..

I remember her sugar level was well control during pregnancy and already free from diabetes now when she continue to take the product.. I need to check with her the detail if you interested to know more..

My colleague's (she is not pregnant) sugar reading always above 10, she started to take the product recently too as the strongest medicine from doc cannot help her at all... her sugar level reduced a lot! I witness the whole progress as she showed me the reading every time she "pok" her nail..

She is still in the progress of recovering as she only take the product for a mth plus but I can see her health improved a lot

Dear friend,
Monitoring your blood sugar.
While you're pregnant, your health care team may ask you to check your blood sugar four to five times a day — first thing in the morning and after meals — to make sure your level stays within a healthy range. This may sound inconvenient and difficult, but it'll get easier with practice.
Healthy diet - Eating the right kinds of food in healthy portions is one of the best ways to control your blood sugar and prevent too much weight gain, which can put you at higher risk of complications.
Exercise - Regular physical activity plays a key role in every woman's wellness plan before, during and after pregnancy. Exercise lowers your blood sugar by stimulating your body to move glucose into your cells, where it's used for energy. Exercise also increases your cells' sensitivity to insulin, which means your body will need to produce less insulin to transport sugar for diabetes problems.
Medication - If diet and exercise aren't enough, you may need insulin injections to lower your blood sugar. Between 10 and 20 percent of women with gestational diabetes need insulin to reach their blood sugar goals. Some doctors prescribe an oral blood sugar control medication, while others believe more research is needed to confirm that oral drugs are as safe and as effective as injectable insulin to control gestational diabetes.
Close monitoring of your baby - An important part of your treatment plan is close observation of your baby. Your doctor may monitor your baby's growth and development with repeated ultrasounds or other tests.
