Hi everyone. Im currently TTC-ing. Married for almost 2 years. Went NUH for fertility appointment and Recent HSG and U/S found that i had a cyst at my left ovary.undergoing surgery this coming july. Just wondering if anyone diagnosed with ovarian cyst and had undergo surgery to removed it? Can share some insight as to what's going to happen and What will the next step be after surgery? Thank you.

Hi Hestia, I had mine removed October 2014 via keyhole surgery. Basically what happens is there will be 3 scars - two at the sides of your abdomen and one slightly under your belly button...I was put under GA and the surgery lasted slightly under 2 hours. Warded for 3 days and was discharged after that...put on contraceptives for 6 mths to stop the menses and let the womb recover before we tried conceiving the natural way.
There are a few ways post op that your doc may recommend -
Oral contraceptives which I was told has to be taken up to 9 mths
Injectibles like mine for 6 mths
Neither and just try naturally
For me, the injectibles brought about a state of forced menopause i.e. on top of menses stopping, I had heat flushes that came and went throughout the day. And when my menses returned, so did the cyst at a much slower growth.
I headed to NUH August 2015 to seek the help of a fertility specialist and finally conceived in November 2015...baby's expected to arrive in July so please don't give up...! Your baby dreams will come true.
Hi missus_wong. Thank you so much for sharing with me your journey. Just a few question, is it really a must to be on contraceptive? So did you removed the 2nd cyst? Did u conceived naturally?Were you doing your treatments and checks in NUH throughout? Anyways I am so happy for you! Congratulations! Anytime soon now and you would be seeing your baby! I hope my journey wouldn't be too complicated

Hmm, it was recommended that I went on contraceptives by the gynae and most of the online information I read also pointed to it, unless you are so sure that you will definitely want to try immediately..cos at the end of the day, the cyst will recur no matter what. I have friends who did not opt for contraceptives either and still did not manage to conceive subsequently...and the cyst also recurred bigger than before.
Nope, my second cyst was discovered after I got pregnant so we're monitoring it to see if I can get it reduced by TCM after birth or maybe get it removed during the birth...
Ehh...technically speaking I conceived via assisted i.e. IUI under Prof PC Wong.
I only went to see him after my contraceptives wore out (advised by a private gynae)...so checks and the IUI was all done at NUH.
