Dr KT Tan at KKH

My wife visits Dr KT Tan at TPS KKH. Her EDD is 2nd Jan 2013 (Hooray!). We chose Dr KT Tan with reference from a fren who had nothing but praises over her service. Having seen her for a few months now, I think I have to disagree with my fren as far as my experience with her is concerned. She seems to rush through her appointment, probably due to her packed schedule, and the waiting time for her consultation seems to also defeat the purpose of us paying more at TPS in the first place. Although understandably, she does not share the same level of excitement we have over our child, at least let us spend more time with him or rather, the image of him moving about in the scan. I am thinking if we should change or remain with her since we're already at the 2/3 mark now. Anyone here has anything to share?

I see her for my 1st child.... totally regrets. Now planning for 2nd child and i won't go back to her again. Bad experience.

I went to her for my 1st child....Just like u, she was highly recommended by my frens. However, hubby n myself found her veri quiet and do not comment much. Bcos it was our first child, we were expecting to get more advices from her, but we receive none. When asked for advices, she jus make short remarks. Compared to other gynaes that other frens went to for their first one. But she was veri prompt for delivery (mine was almost midnite), she arrived minutes after nurse called her.

But I don think I will go to her for my next one....

i also heard very high reviews about her. I totally regretted it man. She dont give much advice and it take ages to see her. waiting time very long. after seeing her, her reviews fast and snappy. nothing said. I wiill not go back to her for my 2nd.

My wife was under Dr Tan for both her pregnancies. I too am a doctor who had worked under her before. From working under her, I realized one thing. She might rush through consultations and scans but if any emergencies were to occur, you would want her to be the obs in charge of your wife's case. She is so senior that the nurses and doctors are super careful about her cases and you can be sure that there's no mistakes made. And in any emergency scenarios, things are done at super fast speed as it is her case. So knowing all that quick consults and waits, I think it's a small price to pay for a peace of mind that my wife and child are in the best hands.

Another thing is that if you are paying private rates, you would want the appointed obs to deliver the child. As far as I know, she has always delivered most of the cases by herself and not delegated to the midwife or junior doctors.

A lot of my colleagues' wife and colleagues specially ask for her. So if that's any yardstick to go by, I think your wife/you and your baby are in good hands.

I went to Dr Tan on my own after some research and she helped deliver all 3 kids safely and efficiently.

I agree w M_Wu. Mummies who have been with Dr Tan knows she is forthright, extremely efficient and a reliable obgyn.
She is fast and quick in her consultations because she has many patients and other responsibilities like teaching and dept duties?
If everything is good with mummy and baby, my hubby and I will be out of her room in 10mins.
Her team of assisting nurses work so quickly around her. She will answer your questions if you ask her.
But most of the questions first time mummies have, can be sourced online.
If there are complications, she will explain clearly the conditions, options and give encouragement.

Consultations or labour delivery matter more?
If you select the latter, you will appreciate Dr Tan as she delivers babies fast and safely.
She is so experienced and decisive. She will also give clear instructions for mummies to follow during delivery.
She will personally deliver the baby. She is usually the earliest dr to report for work and will stay late too.
The nurses who work with her respect her a lot and knows she is very particular when it comes to patient matters.

To me, that is her sense of responsibility and dedication to her patients.

I'm currently under Dr KT Tan, and I think she is a very experienced dr. She will answer my concerns and questions. I asked her about some other medications I was on before I knew I was pregnant. She assured me that it should be ok during consultation, and even called me the next day to further clarify with me after she has checked with the pharmacists on the medication to confirm that it should be fine. I would say that is really very professional of her and shows that she cares for her patients.

I'm also under Dr KT Tan. She delivered my second child (came down promptly even though I delivered past midnight in the peak dec period). She's a fuss-free doc..When I had my miscarriage, she spent more time to check on me and answer all my queries. Now, I went back to her again for my 3rd child and I felt that she's spending more time to monitor this pregnancy. So basically, a short visit indicates good news..means the mother and baby are both healthy :)

She's a busy woman so if nothing is wrong i dun think she wants to sweet talk the new mummies and daddies. A lot of information can be found online, you don't need a doctor for that. A lot of new parents want to spend long time looking at their babies on the ultrasound machine but remember, too much u/a is bad for babies. An experienced doctor would not want to spend unnecessary time on the machine because the parents are non the wiser.

My first one was delivered by a doctor who has since left KK. I was randomly assigned another doctor after that for my post-natal care and the doctor was a bit of an alarmist, sending me to get a biopsy when i had a lump in my breast. Turned out to be lactational adenoma which is common in breastfeeding mothers. Unfortunately, as a result of that, breast cancer is excluded in my insurance when I upgraded my insurance. Sian.

So, I started scouring various parenting forums for a gynae and I found Dr KT Tan. When I had my #2, most of my appointments with her were fast. I didn't mind that. But, if you do have any questions for her, make sure you list them down and start asking her the questions even before you sit down.

She was, like most of the forumers above said, very decisive and fast. She will definitely be there for you when you deliver. And the post-delivery treatment is fantastic. The nurses know you are her patient and they will make sure they do everything perfectly for you. Heh. I like this part the best. You can hear their hushed whispers, "This is KT Tan's patient."

Then I was pregnant again and it ended in a miscarriage. It was then that I saw the compassion she had in her. She was almost motherly.

Now I'm pregnant with my third one. Hopefully, this pregnancy is successful and, of course, Dr KT Tan is my choice gynae.

This is my 1st pregnancy and in my 3rd trimester now. Yes I do agree that her consultations are very short but I mean after all, it is a routine check up to ensure your baby is healthy and growing well. So short consultations just shows everything is normal and that's all we need to know. She does answer my questions if I do have any, providing me just enough information for me to not be a worry wart. So far, my husband and I are very comfortable with her because we prefer doctors that are succinct and precise.

If I have no. 2, I will definitely go back to her still. :)

hi, is there antenatal package (supplements + monthly check) available at kkh like those offered by private gynae??

Want to ask a question, whether Dr KT Tan will deliver for ward class B2+?
Just learn that class A and B1 only can appoint specialist doctor for attending patient.
My wife currently has been admitted at class B2+ for observation due to breathlessness.
Although the ward doctors seem like not that professional, but occasionally, a lot of doctors been send to my wife, on the morning for check ups and even until SGH and TTS hospital's doctors been mobilized to discuss about my wife's case.
And a lot of them mentioned that Dr KT Tan was the one informed them to come over.

I too will highly recommend KT Tan. I didn't really like her when I randomly got her when I made my appt. But gradually I really appreciate her style. She doesn't tell you more than what you need to know so you don't worry unncessarily. And her stitching skills are really good. I've had two kids under her and always heal in less than a month. Like what the other posters have mentioned, she delivered both my kids and is there early in the morning and will leave late at night. Will definitely go back to her if I have my 3rd

Hi does anyone have updated reviews about Dr KT Tan at KKH especially her normal delivery stitching skills?
Because someone had posted another thread about how bad her experience was with her and it really scares me a lot. So far I don't feel she is bad or what coz it has been smooth pregnancy and she is not cold like what others said about her in the past. But reading that thread really scares me. Any reviews?
