High risk and 40+ TTC

Dear all here, I'm new and feeling encouraged by you guys. Thanks for your sharings.

Happy Birthday, congrats on your princess due December. So exciting! Hope I will be able to have children too.

ladies, just wondering... what is the percentage of women above 35 getting pregnant and giving birth successfully? it surely has increased over the years... is it cause for worry? like all the tests - costs, pain and time taken for such tests..

Hi ladies, i'm turning 40 in a few month time and super worry. No luck on my 3 round of ivf. Any recommendation of good gynae or ivf specialist to recommend?

I had 2 boys all via IVF with Dr Cheng Li Chang from TMC. My younger boy was when I was 39/40... Alot depends on our body as well as our chemistry with our IVF drs.

Everybody seems to have the idea of woman's fertility plummets at age 35 ... fertility is very dependent on the individual. Some women will have more trouble than others getting pregnant, regardless of age.

With that said, there is a slow decline in fertility, and an increase in the risk of birth defects as we age.
So there's a one-size-fits-all advice that can pinpoint the perfect moment when the couple can conceive.

If you plan to start a family, my advice is get yourselves checked by a fertility dr and don't delay.

Thanks! We already have kids that r in pri sch n wana have more.. abit of a gap but still wana try n have more kids.. not sure if need to see fertility dr for this.. I struggled for awhile n wanted to do checkups before trying but think probably take things naturally for the time being.

As u age, there r also possibilities of hyper ovulating. That’s what i read.

hello, do u mean ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome (OHSS)? usually women with PCOS are more at risks during IVF or So-IUI

As we get older, the issue is more likely diminished ovarian reserve.... no more eggs liao.
and Egg quality.

As women ages, our FSH hormone also increases so this is somewhat mimicking SO-IUI/IVF prcoess where we have FSH hormones to help grow more follicles. However you have spot on too and in reality even with the increase of FSH hormone, our AMH will also decrease rapidly as we age causing diminished ovarian reserve or we have poor egg quality which hinders our chances of falling pregnant.

Unless the women had undergone fertility treatment, she will not get OHSS with their monthly natural cycle even if she produces more than 1 follicle for that month.

Any good news? Seems like I can only grow cysts :( my next gynae appointment is in early November... very sian....

Jiayou! I just get my fibroids removed last two months. Gynae suggest to rest for at least half a year bfr ttc again. So I am in a relaxing mood temporary and seeing TCM. Cysts affecting the chances in getting pregnant? How Long have you been trying?

qqduckie > i understand how you feel... it took my cousin 20 years to have a baby and she just gave birth to a baby girl.

Michelle19 > from what i read, single cyst shouldn't affect the chances of getting pregnant, they mostly forms when the egg can't break out. then there is always the other ovary which can still release egg...that's if it wants to... no control... i think winning 4D could be easier sometimes.

Jia you & jia you again....

I am tired of trying also. I failed to BFP last cycle and decided to see TCM and take TCM medicine to nourish the uterus lining and the eggs. The TCM doc look at me during consultation with a tired look as if to say no hope already and take the TCM medicine to 'see how'.

Jiayou!

Ladies, hang in there. I conceived my No2 via IVF at age 40 too. Went to see TCM at Tong Ji and also immunologist too. These 3 drs helped me BFP and deliver a bubbly baby last year.

Some of us may have inherent immunology issues (Eg : Elevated Thyroid Antibodies, Sticky Blood, Vit D deficiency, elevated natural killer cells, Lupus etc) which we may not even know. These will result in unexplained fertility or prevent us from falling pregnant or having recurring miscarriages.

So the role of the a reproductive immunologist is to help us counter these immunology issues while we are trying to conceive.

Your TCM specializes in Fertility ? I have seen general TCM and she said how bad my body condition was and need at least 6 months to fix my other issues before she can start TCM fertility treatment. (Imagine my bio clock was ticking away and yet I need to wait maybe about at least 1 yr if I was still seeing this TCM) I switched to a fertility TCM subsequent and things worked out after a few months.

Finally got my Gynae session over with today, at CD 15, according to my CM tracking I should have ovulated already but u/s scan shows the dominant egg is still in my ovary only 12mm. Doc predict will only ovulate in about 2 days time.... there is also a 2.4 cm cyst which could be a corpus luteum cyst....which I thought only occurs after ovulation.... I am so messed up now....*bang head* next appointment CD7 on next cycle. If I only ovulate on CD17 like what doc predicts then I would have a 30 day cycle this month which happened before but super rare. I am prone to short cycles. *bang head* I did LH test too... CD 8 to 13 is very faint and CD 14 was quite dark, today faint again... quite dark but not darker than control line so no definite spike there...anyway read LH doesn’t quite work for older girls coz (I read somewhere...lazy to type...ask me again if you are interested) *bang head* now my lower back on the right is super painful... I got a retroverted uterus (just found out after 40 years...thanks) *bang head* big egg is in right ovary... thank you for letting me rant...my journey is quite lonely here

May I know which doctor did u go to test the inherent immunology test?

I delivered my firstborn at age of 40 and in less than one year, I am preggie with my 2nd baby - both are happy surprises, as in when we least expected I would conceive successfully.

While bio age does play a part, I personally believe health and lifestyle are also dominant factors. My hubby advocates an active lifestyle with healthy food, which I think helps. Most importantly, rest and relax so you can recharge....sometimes a relaxing holiday can do wonders!!!

Baby dust to all the ladies here who are trying....you are not alone

My friends have been telling me about a IVF plc that claim they have high success rate and mild procedures. one of my friends tried and succeeded thou, heard they are having a seminar, anyone heard about honji fertility centre?

Be warned of ivf centers who claim they have high success rates. The profile of their patients is something which we dont know.... if they treat young patients then success rate will be higher than centers that treat older patients/or with patients with various fertility issues.
