Help!! endometriosis laparoscopy

Endometriosis is a nightmare for me. I suffered from it since my teen years BUT never for once that I thought it would be that serious. Most of my classmates have the same pain and so I thought it is so "normal" till it escalated to me trying to get painkillers (ponstan to synflex) from different doctors. Panadol menstrual did not help either so I have to resort to those painkillers to numb the pain. It was only when I went to the polyclinic during one visit that the doctor suggested that I should actually seek help then continuing taking painkiller.

So finally, I decide to seek help after getting a referral and how shock I was when I was diagnosed at 29yo with endometriosis at kkh. Then the discovery of the cyst was like 5cm but within months it grew too huge till I was suggest surgery aka laparoscopy. Ended up, I decided to seek a 2nd opinion at Thomson Medical and to my alarm instead of one cyst now, I actually got two which was quite huge that the doctor I saw at ThomsonMedical was worry it would ruptured.

I did my surgery in Oct 2015, they discover that my endometriosis has spread to my pelvic, intestine and return. I was like omg is this a bad dream? As mine was pretty quite serious, I only went back to work in dec 2015 after my surgery in October.

The anesthesiologist commended that I was still single and young too and to have this was really too harsh.

Even after the surgery, I was put on Depo-Provera- a jab for 6 months and then Visanne which I am taking till now.

I was hopeful that Visanne worked for me for quite a while so I decide to stop the medication for just 1 month and switch to another medication and to my horror my endometriosis has come back once again.

Seemed like my battle with endometriosis will be a long one and I must be on Visanne till I get marry and decide to have kids.

Hi all, it's been a long time since I came to this forum as we still had not conceived. I would like to share my experience with you because I think we need all the support there is, so feel free to ask me any questions!

I just had my surgery to remove endometriosis on Mon, 23 Oct, at TMC with Dr Steven Teo. Am recovering at home now, thank God. Talking about issues help me feel better, and I hope my experience benefits you too.

How did I find out that I have endometriosis?
I started having cramps every month every period since early 2014, cramps can sometimes be so bad I faint and break out in cold sweat, I even got sent to A&E once. I also had crazily heavy flow that floods me and severe diarrhea. I first went to see a gynae in Aug 2014, but because endometriosis is not detectable via scans, most doctors would not recommend laparoscopy for diagnosis. So all I got was painkillers. We were also starting TTC intentionally then. In those 3 years, I took my BBT everyday, have been on 5 cycles of clomid yet nothing worked. We also did the necessary tests and found nothing to be unusual. In a flash, 3 years of heartache passed with everyone around us having kids and even moving on to 2nd kid.

We decided in Sep 2017 to see a specialist to do IUI, and through recommendation we approached Dr Steven Teo on 20 Sep 17. Pelvic examination, transvaginal u/s and (TMI) check via poop hole which found that I had pain mostly on the left ligament was done. By symptoms and elimination of reasons why we could not conceive, Dr Teo informed that there was a 90% chance I had endometriosis which was causing infertility due to the inflammation. He advised that IUI would not increase much of the chances since the inflammation is still detrimental to the egg and swimmers. He suggested surgery to diagnose and remove the endometriosis based on 5 important factors. Egg reserves, swimmers quality, uterus cavity condition, age and clear tubes I think? He felt it was a good option as we had no issues with those factors. Surgery came as a big shock to me, I've never been in hospital and I was overwhelmed, but after talking to a few people, they encouraged me to go for it as it also benefits my health. So 1 week later, we met Dr Teo and scheduled the surgery within a month.

Sorry for my long story, I am very much willing to share with you my journey :)
God bless!

Hi Babylovin,
Not sure if you will still be reading this post, just want to get some opinions from you ladies here.

Chance upon this post as I am also seeing Dr Steven Teo.
TTC for about 10 cycles with regular menses hence went to do a fertility check with Dr Teo.
Through scans found out that I have polyps, endometriosis, and suspected Hydrosalpinx.
Doc suggested to do surgery to clear off my polyps and endometriosis. He mentioned about 4 in 1 too.
My concern about my Hydrosalpinx, doc told me that I need let him know my decision before the surgery whether to remove my tube or to repair it.
To repair it, it will cost more, longer surgery time and the same issue might come back in the future.
To remove it, it will be a straight forward surgery and I will depend on the other tube to conceive.
I can’t decide. To repair or to remove? Feeling so lost. :(

Hi Babydustf08, i got a notification :)
Don't mind me asking but what is Hydrosalpinx?
Dr Teo is really very proficient in keyhole surgery, he is still my gynae now and i have never regretted seeing him, instead i'm very thankful to have met him.

Found out from scan that my left tube is swollen. It could some fluid around that area, he said he can’t advise much. Only by doing laparoscopy then he can see what’s in there. So before i proceed with the surgery I must tell what’s my decision.

It's like endo, you can't fully tell the severity until you do a laparoscopy. Are you covered by insurance? How about try to repair first? And then tell Dr Teo if really cannot be repaired, then remove. You do know that endo will return also right...

Yup read about it in this forum about endo coming back. But he didn’t say much about my endo. Cos like what you said he can only see it during the surgery.

My endometriosis return not long too.
Ever since my laparoscopy, I was on Lupron depot for 6 months followed by Visanne which I have been permanent on. My doctor agreed to let me stop taking my medication but it resulted with my endometriosis coming back. End up, I got to go back to Visanne to keep the endometriosis at bay. As I did not want to be permanentit on this drug, I asked my gynae what are the option. she told me only when I am ready to get marry and hve kids then I could stop the medication. If not I would have to keep taking medication to prevent it from coming back.

i did my lap surgery about 1 year ago.

when i squat down, there seems to be a tugging feel at my belly button area where the incision was made.

its just a tugging feel, not painful. i just want to know if anyone the same ?

I did a lap myomectomy 2 months ago, I get that feeling, without squatting. I try not to squat or bend, cause there this compress and tugging feeling.

Hi I have very painful menses every month since 2 years ago. Its a sharp pain coming from the anus. It can affect my work life and sitting down or even walking. I went through 3 transvaginal ultra sound from 3 different gynae clinics and they did not see any endometriosis in my uterus.

Please advise what should I do now? I’m lost and I do not want to spend big bucks to go for ultrasound scans again. :(:(:(

It sounds like you may have endometriosis of another area. The uterus is not the only place it can be and an ultrasound is not great in detecting endometriosis anyway! Sounds like you need a better trained doctor. Join this group on Facebook called ‘Nancy’s nook’. Seriously, you won’t regret it. We need to educate ourselves as Gynaes often don’t have a clue about this condition. Also, excisional surgery is better than ablation- kind of like digging out the roots of a weed compared to simply pulling weeds out of the ground. You need a laparoscopy to properly diagnose and a trained endometriosis excisional surgeon, not just any so called specialist.

Please look up excisional surgery also! Im guessing it wasn’t done previously during your laparoscopy. I also advise Nancy’s nook on facebook to you, I’ve learnt a lot through there and there are 2 surgeons in Singapore who can probably help properly listed on there.

I just found out that I have endometriosis on one side and endometrioma on the other side. I just got a shocked from my medical screening results that doc suspect something and advise for further check on it. As results, the cyst were quite big (8cm).

I'm thinking if I should just proceed with the gyne that I met in Raffles or get a second opinion. I'm lost and no idea who to go n get second option. Tried to call a few whom being mentioned in this forum, but most of the gyne are not available for a consultation within these few days.

Can anyone share some thoughts?

I went to seek TCM help cause my gynae was quite ok about it and even told me to give it a try. Surprising, under the two doctors ( western and TCM), my cyst that was discovered on the right went away when I went for my last medical review with my gynae. Was so happy that now we decide to stop the medication since all is clear and hope that the cyst won't make a reappearance again for the time being.

I am currently in the same situation right now (endo cyst 8cm). Had a appointment at kkh with Prof. THH last week but didn't get to see him as he is busy with other procedures. The other doctor advise to do Lap but I insisted to speak to him personally before making and decision. Appt is this week, hope to get some more information before deciding on anything.

I managed to meet another two doctors, Dr SF Loh and Dr Steven Teo. I'm at the point of making a decision on a healthy body or reserving my egg before the keyhole surgery.

Hope you get to meet your gyne before making any decision.

I just did endometriosis laparoscopy on July 2018. Every now and then my scars will feel throbbing pain. Does anyone share the same experience? Will it recover?

May I know what is your decision in the end? Did the operation affect your ovary egg reserve? Thanks

Hi, I am also in a similar situation. What did your doctors say? Wld keyhole surgery greatly affect egg reserve?

I just did my laparoscopy last monday....wounds are healing well at the moment and are currently on LUCRIN jab to allow the womb to rest and fully heal. Stayed in hospital for 2 days for better recovery. Dr Tan HH is really good and really care for his patients, he even came back to hospital on Christmas to check on my recovery.

I didnt do the lucrin jab, so my period came the next month.

Hi Ms Z, I have decided to go ahead with the keyhole surgery. It’s going to happen this week. Everything still unknown for now but doc mentioned any removal of cyst at the ovary area more or less will affect the egg reserve.

Babylovin,

Hope that you managed to conceive after the surgery.

I'm going to meet my gyne to set date for the keyhole surgery soon. Wanna get your advise of what pre-op and post-op check up/blood test that you did so that I can better prepare myself?

Thanks for sharing..

Keyhole surgery will affect egg reserve but no guarantee on much it will affect. So we need to make a choice over health and fertility.

Hi all, I'm new to this forum :)
I did a laproscopy after being diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis. Endo has been very tiring and challenging for me, the pain still haunts me . After surgery, I have been put on visanne and was told I should be on it until I get married. The first few weeks was a nightmare as I had very bad mood swings and extreme fatigue..I have been on Visanne for 6 months and still struggling with the symptoms. My work has deteriorated, relationship is strained, and I'm just mentally exhausted all the time. I am looking to stop the drug as my bf feels I have changed drastically and I am struggling at work . Does anybody have any success story with TCM or can anybody recommend a good tcm, preferably in the west?i heard Endo has very high recurrence rate. Anybody has experience of getting endo after stopping Visanne?

I had my surgery in June 2014 with Dr Christopher Chen which he only ‘drained out’ my cyst instead of removing it and he didn’t tell me that mine was endometriosis. Now I have a 10cm cyst and I am scheduled to have a surgery to remove it next month. Anyone has the same experience with me and willing to share more? I was also told that it is not advisable to have more than one surgery to remove the cyst. But guess I have no other choice.

Hello. I am new to all this. May I please ask for information?
1. how much does a vaginal ultrasound cost typically at a government/restructured hospital under subsidised rate?
2. is it claimable through medisave and health insurance?
3. How much does a Hysterectomy cost for complete removal of womb? is it claimable through medisave and health insurance?

I have risk of womb issues and am thinking of getting regular checks from now on. My mum had uterine cancer.
Would appreciate any advice on what regular checks/tests I should get. I am now 47. have 2 kids and it is ok to remove to womb if needed. haven't gone through menopause.

thank you.

Hello there, I've just got discharged yesterday after my 1st (and hopefully the last ever!) laparoscopy for my endometriosis. Prior to discharged, the doc asked me to choose either to go on Visanne or Lucrin that will last for 3 months. With limited time for me to search on those side effects, I've chosen the Lucrin jab. My concern right now is to be able to conceive naturally and not getting my endo relapse.
Ladies, do share with me your experience with the Lucrin, cause almost all my reading was about woman regretting taking this option.

My case , my endo cyst relapse after lucrin wears off. Endo wont go away in most cases and yes be on lucrin is like the worst choice i've ever made.

I had a lap to tackle my stage 4 endo and remove three 8cm cysts but my doctor advised me not to go on Visanne nor jabs after as they will affect my ability to conceive. That still, I didn't manage to conceive naturally. Went for IVF after some time and conceived. Time is key, have to act fast otherwise it'll only get harder to conceive when it eventually starts to relapse (especially if the endo was more severe).

Hello:) I’ve done a lap in June this year.. and did 2 IVF FETs July & Aug, still failed. this month is my 6th month trying (Sep- now natural)! Fearing that the Endo cyst will return every time I have my menses & possibly backflow of blood. and actually I think dr didn’t manage to burn away all the Endo completely so I’m worried that it’s still making uterus an unfriendly environment for implantation.. any one did a second lap within 6-7months just to clear the Endo again? Im thinking if I should clean the womb before I do IVF again.. but not sure if doing surgery 2x is too harmful for the womb. (And also I’m afraid of the idea of surgery Gosh)

also anyone took TCM meds? I tried to tell my TCM we cannot take dang Gui but he said a little bit is okay... mmmmmm.
