Anyone suffering from asherman syndrome or uterine synechia?
My period has been very scanty. Only 2 days of very light bleeding and it's adnormal. Looking for an experienced gynea to treat me. Please advise

Hi Shuqin,

Thank you for the post! I have been trying to see if anyone in Sg is suffering the same like me. I had my D&C on Jan26 and since then I have yet to get my period. I was given estrogen meds since March 1 and not seeing much result. Currently with Dr Peter Chew from Gleneagles and he is planning to do hyteroscopy for me on Apr10 to confirm if I do hv AS.

Did you hv D&C due to MC too? How long hv you been suffering this?

I have done a D&C in june 2015. Got pregnant again in Aug which result in another miscarriage. Eversince, I realized my period is very scanty and it last for 2 days only. 3 Private Gynea checked my lining and all said it looks ok even though they are aware that I kept complaint abt more scanty period. After ttc for almost a year and no result, I decided to change gynea. Went to KKH and they sent me for sonohysterography. From the scan they found I have uterine scarring. Which Is the cause of infertility and miscarriage. I am scheduled to do a hysteroscopy next week. I am also taking estrogen now, prescribed by another gynea who is against hysteroscopy. I'm giving it a try for one month. If the period is still scanty I will go ahead with the hysteroscopy.
I am running out of time because I have super low egg reserve.

Hugs... my lining still thin despite all the estrogen meds that I have been taking I have spotting on and off these past 2 weeks but nothing much, just brown stuff so I guess it's not doing much. May I know why your doctor is against hyteroscopy? My egg reserve is poor too and my last pregnancy was by SO-IUI and I'm 38 this year with no child yet so it's quite heart breaking to found out about this... this is my second MC too

I'm scheduled to do hysteroscopy at KKH because insurance cannot cover for infertility depends on what the doctor writes. Incase the doctor tells the truth, I can't claim insurance. Private hospital will cost between $12k to $16k. kkH after deduct medisave, will cost $4k plus. Ouch.
At the same time, im seeing a new female private gynea at Amk who suggest I don't do hysteroscopy because she thinks it's too invasive and may worsen the scaring if not careful. She wants me to try taking estrogen medications to soften the scarring and another medicine to flush out the scarring... something like that in lay man terms. I'm not sure if it will work. But I'm giving it a try. If my period turns normal this month, I may cancel the hysteroscopy otherwise I'll go ahead with KKH.
I'm also very confused and lost.

Hugs... I am worried too, if you dont mind can you tell me the medicine names so I can ask my doctor too and request for it if it is suitable for me? I read that an experienced doctor is essential to do the surgery to ensure that it will not worsen the situation but if untreated it is also not good for us ... I am also surprised that it seems that AS is such a uncommon issue in Sg... I cant find anything online at all did you manage to find anyone else in Sg other than me having it?

The estrogen is Premarin
The other one pill that goes together at the mid cycle is norethisterone

Hello. Did you check with your doctor on the medication? My period came this month and still very scanty. Dark and cloggy. I think I'm going ahead with the hysteroscopy. I'm really so scared. There is so little information online to find out who is a good and experienced doc who can perform this invasive op. Fingers crossed. Hope the one at KKH really know what he is doing and can really help to treat my problem. I have no time to wait. Any outcome from your end and what did your gynea suggest ?

My period came!!! After 2months plus of not having it... it came on 1st April and lasted for 4 days. My doctor was v happy for me too. The meds are Duphaston and Progynova, both are progesterone and estrogen meds to induce lining to thicken and see if my linings are stuck... he told me to eat for 2 weeks check and another 2 weeks... he actually wanted to wait for at least 2-3months and if really no period then do the surgery. I really like my doctor now, he told me all the possibilities and risk and he himself actually write an article on AS for MSF(Ministry for Social and Family) with regards for fertility. Do you want second opinion from him? He is at Gleneagles but his fee is v reasonable, at least you know he is familiar with it. My previous doctor made it sound like its a simple and small issue when I know it's not. I will pvt chat you his contacts yup in case you are interested... btw who is the doctor at KKH you are doing the surgery with?

Congrats, you don't have to go for the scary op. The doctor at KKH is Dr CC Khong. KKH is going to call me anytime now to schedule me the time slot for Tmr op. I have rescheduled the last 2 rounds already because I wasn't ready. Hope Dr Chew could give me better advise today. Thank you for sharing.

Hi @shupin, i trace back topic on hysteroscopy and found your post. did you do hysteroscopy in the end?

Unfortunately, I know what is the Asherman’s Syndrome. Our first met was like 2 years ago, as I had a recurrent miscarriage with no explanation. I was so scared! So the doctor said that I have some adhesions and it is necessary to remove them with hysteroscopy. I took the estrogen and antibiotics for better regeneration. After several months I understood that it still nothing happened and I have some problems with pregnancy. My OB said that now the only way for me to get a child – is to adopt one or to use the surrogate mothers. So we decided that we prefer the surrogate motherhood. As soon as we established, my husband said that he knows one clinic in Ukraine, where one the programs cost only 30k Euros. That was an affordable price for us! So now we are preparing the last documents for the Ukrainian Center for Human Reproduction and waiting for our turn! Hope, that soon everything will be ok and we will meet with our surrogate mother for the first time!

ShuQin,

I did my surgery last year at TMC .. my gynae told me no chance for me to conceive if didn't opt for hysteroscopy.. so I went for it ..

Was diagnosed with this Asherman / adhesion symptom too. Still very lost if i should just go ahead and have the op to remove. Read online that there might be an reoccurrence even if successfully removed or the op might worsen the scarring. @mini_jubilee how was the op?

Dear ladies,

May I know which doctors in private hospital in Singapore can treat Asherman's syndrome?
May travel to Singapore for treatment. I have mine done in Hong Kong 2 years ago & intend to check if it reoccurs.

Thanks for your help.

Note: I am not a Singaporean.

Hi ladies,
A doctor suspects I have uterine adhesions after d&cs

I am worried about hysteroscopy and cutting of the adhesions. Seems like if the procedure is performed badly, adhesions will recur and worsen.

Anyone can provide gynaecologist’s contact to soften scar tissues and let it come out naturally?

I would sincerely appreciate it.

Thanks

Hi ladies,
Can some tell me how much a simple diagnostic hysteroscopy will cost?
Alternatively, is sonohysterography effective in diagnosing uterine adhesions?

Thanks in advance for your past experience and some kind input.

Problem is I don’t even know if I am having uterine adhesions. Some people may have no symptoms at all unless they test for this Asherman’s Syndrome

Mine was 500$ at NUH as private patient, done by Dr Anupriya, she is good in hysteroscopy, no pain at all. For Therapeutic hysteroscopy(polyps removal) I paid 3200$.

I wish to go for diagnostic hysteroscopy. SGD 500 is very reasonable price at NUH.
I will call NUH to see how.

Thank you so much Alisha for replying.
Going forward, I will go to NUH.
Had a terrible experience after d&c done by Professor Han How Chuan at KKH. Getting the feeling of periods stuck inside and very scanty. I had to resort to strong Chinese Medicine to make me periods come out. I paid hefty prices to get my d&c done only to discover that Professor Han How Chuan specializes In urology, not fertility. Scared to go KKH now.

Hi ladies,

I had a D&C in Oct'19. My menses came after 4 weeks and it is always regular since. However, I noticed that it only last about 2 days and thereafter is a few more days of spotting. Before the D&C, my period will last for about 4 to 5 days. Went to the doctor for a check in January. He did an ultrasound check and was assured that everything is fine. But my lighter period continued. I have tried all methods, like TCM, yoga and exercising to increase blood flow to the pelvic area. Nothing much changed. Sought consultation from another doctor and he suspects that it might be Asherman's syndrome. Going for a HSG to check first.

It's really upsetting that we had lost a much wanted pregnancy, having to go through D&C, picking ourselves up emotionally, then to reach another road block again.

What are the treatment options and how will it be like? Can share your experiences? I am really afraid of any more surgery to the uterus and how this will impact fertility.

if it is really Asherman's syndrome, surgery is required .. if not implantation difficult to take place.. ya i kr ..it really upsetting to encounter so many roadblocks to the way to fertility..

Do you know if surgery is the only way? And also how much does it cost?

According to my TCM and Gynea, surgery is the only way.. cost wise, i suggest you check with your gynea.. cos private and public different pricings.. when i did in 2017, it is est S$ 7K-S$8K (cannot remember exact) .. KKH i think ard S$ 4K to S$ 5K ... not sure if pricing has changed in 2020.. best to check with them directly..

Hi all, I was diagnose with Asherman syndrome along with fibroids last year year and I went to Astra Woman Clinic. Had a failed attempt with Dr Cathryn Chan..

After resting and recovering for half a year, I'm finally going for a 2nd attempt with Dr Loh from TMC. But I just can't help but worry, because I'm just afraid that I might get the same result again.

But to help answer some of your questions regarding Asherman,
- Doctors usually arrange for HSG to check if you have the Asherman syndrome
- The only way to treat it, is via surgery - Hysteroscopy.
- If you suspect you may have this, do highlight to your doctor and get it checked asap.

To every ladies who (unfortunately) suffer from this, we need to be strong!

I resonates with you. I had a laparoscopy last year to remove fibroid and intrauterine adhesions with Dr Fong Yoke Fai from Astra Women's Specialist. This year I had a relook hysteroscopy and the asherman's syndrome has recurred. I was placed with a copper IUD for 2 months and prescribed with a week of progynova estrogen tablets. I had a 3rd hysteroscopy in June to remove the copper IUD and there were blood clots.

Till date my menses has become scantier than before. My TCM physician told me that the fibrous tissue will keep growing back and is very difficult for me to get pregnant. Time is running out for me...

I am very depressed. I am afraid I have to go for another hysteroscopy to review again what's happening and at the risk of having more scarring with the procedures. How's your treatment experience with Dr Loh from TMC?

Has anyone been cured of Asherman's syndrome and manage to conceive successfully? Please help!

HI, can I check if anybody has problems conceiving after a c-section? I've been trying for 10 years and only recently realise that it could be due to uterine scarring.
I read from this thread that @mini_jubilee successfully BFP with Dr. Benjamin Tham? can I understand a little more please?

Hi everyone, how scanty was your periods to be diagnosed for AS? I got D&C for miscarriage back in Apr at KKH and my periods have been lighter, just half pad but still red blood, no spotting, but only last 1.5-2 days with painful cramps on first day. It used to be heavy first 2 days and light on day 3 before my miscarriage. I'm still hoping it's not AS, my gynea at KKH said everything looks fine and don't refer me for further check. I've been ttc 4 months still no news.

Hi all, I am facing the issue of Asherman as well and really very depressed and don’t know which doctor is experienced and good at treating it.

Has anyone managed to conceive after treating the Asherman and which doctor did it for you? Thanks so much for sharing!

Hi Sen85,
You are not alone. I have done the HSG, result was good but my period is still scanty. Not sure if I should go for hysteroscopy. Is HSG good enough to diagnose? My doctor keeps asking me to TTC but I know I have this problem that needs to be fixed. Did anyone get good treatment pls recommend

HSG is the standard for checking scarring (asherman) if you clear your test, then you shouldn’t be having this condition?
Why do you think you have it?
My period was scanty after the d&c procedure too. But I managed to successfully conceive and deliver on the fourth cycle with the help of tcm to thicken my lining.
Originally I was due to undergo HSG to investigate on the fourth cycle if there’s no news still.

Hi Snowlin,
Could you share which TCM you went to?

Hi everyone,
I have tried TCM the past 2 months, taking vitamins too but my period is even more scanty, with black blood, not red. Did anyone have this condition? I really don't know how to make it work for ttc. Can we do IUI if still have scanty period?

I suggest you go see your gynae again so he/she can advise the investigations needed. Or maybe get a different opinion from another gynae. They may monitor your lining first for one cycle to see if it is able to achieve sufficient thickness.
