Boh Beh Zao: Dialect Illustrations by Kuan Eng

Fri Jul 8 @ 9:00 am Tue Jan 31 @ 10:00 pm

This brand new exhibition at SCCC features commonly heard and used local dialect phrases in illustrations. Created by illustrator Kuan Eng when he was trying to engage his young nephew to learn and speak more dialect, the illustrations are colourful, attention-grabbing and easy-to understand.

Located at SCCC’s L9 and 10 foyer,  the series consists of various colloquial dialect words and phrases, like 眼睛贴邮票 (bǎk jiũ tàh stãmp – eyes paste stamp) and 抓不到球 (liǎk bǒh kíu – catch no ball), in illustrations.

Kuan Eng is the founder of Sibey Nostalgic and the author of 11 books on the five major dialects in Singapore. After 18 years in corporate advertising, he decided to pursue social work in search of greater job fulfilment, which led him to combine his passion for arts and his desire to help the community.
