Where to get CNY Clothes for Kids: 5 Modern-Traditional Style Mixes We Love
These gorgeous, traditional-turned-modern designs for the upcoming rooster year give fashionable style to CNY festivities without compromising on custom!
#1: For hip, edgy designs
Le Petit Society
We featured Le Petit Society two years ago (see here) but we like it so much we just have to showcase it again! This HK-based boutique brand has recently expanded its range to clothe kids up to 12 years old – mums of older kids say “yay!”. We’re fans of its sassy designs and comfy materials; you won’t get any “it’s too itchy / scratchy!” complaints from the kids for sure. The Adventures Collection will fit like second skin on brave young things with active pursuits (all our kids included in that description I’m sure!), but do remember to check out the new Rooster Collection as well – it’s total cuteness overload and perfect for CNY visits.

#2: For a classy update on classics
We love how Elly uses Asian-inspired fabrics in their CNY collections and turns them into on-trend style for little ones. Elly is well-known for their pretty cheongsams for girls and mandarin-collared shirts for boys (which my children are fans of because the shorter collar is so much more comfortable in Singapore’s heat and humidity). You can buy the clothes online but if you’re able to go to the Cluny Court store itself, you’ll get a better idea of sizing for the kids. Here you’ll also be able to pick up the right pair of shoes (from Pediped, Old Soles, Salt Water Sandals, Pom d’api, Livie and Luca, Native, Bobux, Converse and Meduse among others) to create your little fashionista’s perfect CNY #ootd!

#3: For matching family outfits
This homegrown brand has injected a huge dose of fun into its ‘Kampong Hues’ collection for CNY 2017. We love the adorable Bubble cheongsam designs for little princesses, the modern cut of the Raglan cheongsams (there are mummy sizes too!), and the Five Stone Sling Bags for girls. Boys old and young are not left out. They get mandarin-collar shirts in fabulously festive fabrics – nothing kampong about these at all!

#4: For a colourful celebration of festive style
Started by a mum who was looking for a cheongsam for her daughter, Little Qipao has made its mark in the CNY stylebook with its fun designs and use of colourful fabrics. Every outfit is a cheery nod to festive celebration. For CNY 2017, Little Qipao’s ‘In The Mood For Love’ collection (its largest so far) includes selections for brothers, mums, and dads as well. If you’ve been thinking about having a merry matchy lunar new year, this is where you’ll definitely find it, style-wise!
Sizes from XS (estimated age 2-3 years) to XL (estimated age 10-11 years), available at www.littleqipao.com

#5: For a touch of runway couture
Dolce & Gabbana Junior
Unapolegetically loud and proud, the designs at Dolce and Gabbana say “look at me!” and with good reason too. The Italian label’s Junior sets echo its parent collection’s style ethos, tackling colours and graphics with aplomb. This season’s capsule rooster collection for boys takes the chicken out of the coop and gives it extreme swag. We love the adorable baby onesies with royal chickens, and the boys’ range of shirts, bombers, shorts, and backpacks, all decorated with proud, strutting fowl. There’s nothing with roosters for girls, but we reckon the ‘ong lai’ (Hokkien for pineapple) and the multi-print dresses will be perfect for CNY and beyond, don’t you? It’ll only be in store later this month though, so do call up (6509 4841) before heading down.
Sized for newborns up to children aged 8, available at the Dolce & Gabbana Junior boutique at B1-55A, Galleria level, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands
