Outrageous October: What’s In, Out, and About for Families in Singapore
There’s always something fresh and fun to see, do, and eat on our little red dot. From the newest playgrounds and pop-ups to world-class productions and family-friendly menus, there’s plenty to keep you and the kids engaged. It’s also the month we celebrate Children’s Day and International Day of Older Persons, and mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month and World Mental Health Day — more to look forward to! STEP OUT
Deepavali Open House 2021
Take in the sights and sounds, traditions and meaning of the Festival of Lights at the Indian Heritage Centre. Go on Friday evening rides with Little India Trishaw Trails to soak in the festive atmosphere of the precinct. On weekends, embark on a puzzle hunt and uncover the lost relic of Little India. Other exciting drop-in activities range from rangoli and kolam workshops to crafting paper garlands and lamps.

New Kids on the Singapore Zoo Block
Have you heard? It’s truly Children’s Day at the zoo. Besides Singapore’s now-famous panda baby at the River Safari, the Singapore Zoo welcomes two new kids to its fold. They took a 22-hour interstate road journey and a seven-day sea voyage to get here! Meet Adhil and Balaji, Rothschild’s giraffes who came all the way from India’s Mysuru Zoo. You can now visit the two young lanky boys in their new home at the Wild Africa zone.

Tulipmania & Gardening Workshops
After a two-year hiatus, Tulipmania is back at the Flower Dome! Follow in the footsteps of Kazakh nomads and trace the origins of wild tulips in the Central Asian steppes. Amid the vibrant blooms, discover a traditional yurt handmade by Kazakh craftsmen, complete with felt textiles and a crackling fire. Create your own preserved flower box arrangement with Botany Studio while you’re there. Open to adults and children from five years, these 30-minute drop-in activity workshops take place throughout 30 and 31 October.

UNTAME Children’s Day at KidsSTOP
Have an UNTAME Children’s Day celebration at the STEAM Festival. Find out how to nurture and inspire your little eco-warrior by discovering ways to build a more sustainable world. Take part in a variety of intriguing STEAM challenges, fun parent-child activities, and informative educator workshops both online and on-site.

International Day of Older Persons at Science Centre Singapore
Bring Grandma and Grandpa along to the Science Centre, where exciting on-site activities await. Help them discover how they can be empowered digitally, just like the kids are these days! Learn about ageing through interactive games, and explore the use of smartwatches, digital oximeters, and contactless payments. At the Tinkering Studio, design your own paper circuit and create a greeting card for your grandparents that lights up!

SGF Hort Show 2021
This year’s Singapore Garden Festival Hort Show offers a hybrid programme of virtual and physical activities. Besides a series of online talks and workshops, you can shop all things plants at the e-marketplace. To marvel at on-site horticultural displays, visit the Singapore Botanical Gardens (SBG) and Jurong Lake Gardens (JLG). Other highlights you shouldn’t miss include SBG Heritage Festival and Bazaar in the Garden at JLG.

ACM Adventures: A Royal Time
Take your younglings to explore the royal courts of India through the amazing craftsmanship in the Asian Civilisations Museum’s Court and Company Gallery. The latest instalment of ACM Adventures will allow visitors to experience sights and sounds of a different civilisation. And it all happens through storytelling, drama performances, and craft activities inspired by objects on display.

Build Outside The Box with LEGO
LEGO’s Rebuild the World campaign celebrates children as the masters of creative problem-solving. By building and rebuilding with LEGO bricks, kids discover how to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. This October, hear more about this from actress-mum Joanne Peh and early learning expert Fynn Sor, and other celebrity mums and parenting experts, through weekly IG Live sessions. Goodman Grows 2021 Children’s Day
Goodman Arts Centre is collaborating with Cultivate Central to present a socially driven community farm and art project. It includes a multitude of experiences from workshops and talks to artist installations and trails. For Children’s Day, families and little ones can take part in engaging online art activities. The four sessions feature Music Jamboree, Nature Mask Making, Plastic Weaving, and Make-your-own Cocodama.

Families for Life “Celebrating Our Grands”
Gear up for the annual “Celebrating Our Grands” campaign with Families for Life and honour the ties that bind generations. Join 309,000 children across 950 preschools and 185 primary schools to make your own origami craft.
