We love the month of March for many things, but most of all for International Women’s Day 2019. Gather your posse and join in the fun at one of these inspiring women-friendly events.
International Women’s Day 2019 falls on 8 March. This year’s theme – #BalanceforBetter – calls for a more gender-balanced world. We still have a long way to go: Singapore was outed as the worst place in the world among top-rated ‘gender equal’ nations for women to work in a study last month. But hey, every step counts and if we start now, that balance could be achieved by the time our daughters grow up.

This kicks off with a special screening of Mia Hansen Løve’s Daft Punk-inspired film Eden. Grab a girlfriend and lose yourself in the early-Nineties Paris underground electronic dance movement. Truth: no one loves a woman like a woman loves chocolate. And there’s no better place to indulge in some of that dark love than at a Chocolate-themed Afternoon High Tea Buffet. Roll up in your favourite elastic-waisted bottoms (for ease of stomach expansion of course) and feast on treats such as Jamon Iberico & Apricot on Chocolate Pecan Nut Roll, Traditional Mexican Beef Stew with Chocolate & Mini Baguette, and Crispy Shrimp & White Chocolate Arancini. Craving the sweet stuff? You won’t regret sacrificing calories for the silky smooth Slow-Baked Chocolate Tartlets, or the luscious Jivara Earl Grey Raspberry. Go on. You know you deserve it. From $45++ per adult and $30++ per child, till 28 April 2019 at L’Espresso, Goodwood Park Hotel. Women pay $38++ per person on International Women’s Day itself, 8 March 2019
A girls’ getaway is actually beneficial for your health, and that’s not us talking — that’s science. Southern Living reports here that taking time to spend with your best girlfriends can improve mental and physical health. Who are we to disagree? Grab the girls, your passport, and go. On our radar:
• Either (or both!) of the Four Seasons Resorts in Bali during the Balinese-Hindu New Year, Nyepi, on 7 March, just in time for IWD. Do nothing, or do less: like morning yoga at the ocean-front pavilion with views of the sparkling ocean, deserted beach and fishing village at Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay, or soak up the serenity and greenery of Four Seasons Sayan at its Dharma Shanti Bale with a Sacred Nap, as you are gently rocked to sleep – like a baby in a ‘yaolan’.
• The Westin Resort Nusa Dua Bali, where mums can be nurtured at Heavenly Spa by Westin, and engage in a guided session of Trataka Meditation (“third eye meditation” which helps purify the mind and improve concentration). Need to bring the kids? No problem. Little travellers enjoy unlimited access to Westin Family Kids Club throughout Nyepi Day. As darkness falls, gather in the garden with your little loves and watch the night sky come alive with millions of stars. Bliss.
