The Most Kid-Friendly Minsu, B&Bs, and Hotels in Taiwan

Fulfil a fantasy, sleep in a safari, or let the kids play in a mini road safety park. You’ll find all these and more, only in Taiwan!

If you’ve ever considered a family vacation in Taiwan just so that the kids can be immersed in a Mandarin-speaking society for a few days and hopefully, miraculously, ace their Chinese Mother Tongue exams… well what are you waiting for? Taiwan, home to some of the world’s best street food, also boasts the kind of child-friendly accommodation that’ll make kids go “好棒!” (excellent)

A majority of these are Taiwan Minsu (民宿 meaning “people’s customs”) — homestays or B&Bs. Minsu offer a unique way to immerse yourself in Taiwanese culture as you live with a local and feast on homecooked meals, all on a budget. Many minsu are are also decorated according to a theme, so you and the kids can sleep in a castle, on a beach, in the Emerald City of Oz, in teddy bear land, and so on. Suffice it to say there’ll be a minsu to fulfil your every accommodation dream!

Hotels in Taiwan are just as child-oriented. Kids can stay in a safari and wake up to see a giraffe peeking into their room, and even zoom on a race track – all within the hotel! Here are some that Taiwan travellers recommend.

Deely House Family B&B Minsheng, Tainan

Bottle sterilisers, electronic pots, microwaves, baby bathtubs, bath toys, and children’s toiletries are provided, so it’s no surprise that Deely House is one of the most popular places for families with young children at kayak.sg. With the little things all catered for, you can truly enjoy the fairy-tale themed rooms like Alice in Wonderland, Rapunzel, Jungle, and Little Red Cap.

Each room has a child’s slide, and some rooms even boast swings, outdoor racing facilities, and mini ball pits! Furthermore, educational toys in all the rooms keep kids entertained after a day of touring. Deely House is also a perfect choice if you’re travelling with the extened family. The extra spacious rooms, such as Snow White House, have four beds (and two slides) to fit everyone. The hotel also offers services such as birthday cakes and photography services for families.

Conveniently located within Tainan Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Shopping District, Hotel Cozzi is the perfect base to begin your exploration of Taiwan’s oldest city. Tainan’s famous historic sites and cultural parks are nearby: the Blueprint Cultural & Creative Park us just a two-minute walk away, while you can stroll to Hayashi Department Store in 10 minutes, the Tainan Confucius Temple and Tainan Wude Hall (Old Tainan Martial Arts Academy) in 12 minutes, and Fort Provintia (Chikan Tower) in 15 minutes.

What families really love about Hotel Cozzi though, are its child-friendly facilities. Its outdoor Play Arena dedicates 1,652 sqm to fun and is considered Tainan’s largest leisure area. Designed to take you far from hustle and bustle of the city, kids can enjoy rides on a mini train around a 250m track, electric sports cars, dig in a sand pit, and cool down in a fountain from day to night. The hotel also provides DIY courses for families. Learn to craft a bag, wallets, or a storage box, or make desserts like rice balls! Prefer to stay indoors? Set in the industrial area around Ximending Shopping Area, Taipei Eye and Qingshan Temple, Art’otel is a chic three-star property. With bright and clean design aesthetics, the hotel is a welcome break from the cutesy decor of other family-friendly hotels.

We’d go for the Family Quadruple Room, which has one double bed and one bunk bed. A cot could probably be included as well, though that would make the 22 sqm space rather squeezy. Soundproof windows in all rooms ensure that the kids will sleep well. There’s also an ironing service, laundry, and 24-hour room service. Getting around is easy: you’re a six to eight-minute walk from Ximen station (exit 6), a 15-minute stroll from Beimen station, and just a 10-minute drive from Sung Shan airport.

Just 30 minutes away from Taoyuan International Airport by taxi, this safari in a resort lets you sleep with the beasts and wake with one (a giraffe perhaps?) peeking into your window! Billed as “Asia’s Only Ecological Resort” Leofoo Resort also offers animal encounters and learning experiences that everyone in the family can enjoy safely. The Congo rooms, with two double beds or one double and two single beds, are perfect for a family of four. All are decorated in “African Safari” styles and have large bay view windows through which kids can try to spot the park’s inhabitants.

Look out for free-range African herbivores such as giraffes, rhinoceros, zebras, ostriches, North Africa bearded goats, ring-tailed lemurs and Sulcata tortoises, among others. Get even closer to the animals on guided tours where you can pet an African Spurred Tortoise, feed an African goat, and pose with a lemur. There’s lots of fun indoors, too, as kids can hang out and enjoy craft activities at the Lion King’s Play Room, and watch animal documentaries at the Bird’s Nest Story House.
