Go Bananas with a Minion Mooncake!

Minion Mooncake Mania only at Universal Studios Singapore (2)_lo USSF&B0299_Minion Mooncake IN-RESORT-WebPgThumbNail-1000X490PX

It’s Minion madness! Available exclusively at Universal Studios Singapore in Resorts World Sentosa, this adorable Minion Mooncakes Set ($58) comes stamped with the faces of your favourite minions! There are four flavours — Matcha, Banana (but of course!), Pandan and Red Bean. The set comes in a signature Minion-yellow mooncake box, and a DIY Minion lantern that the kids (and some adults I’m sure) will go gaga bananas over because it’s super cute!

Available only at the mooncake kiosk outside Hollywood China Bistro inside Universal Studios Singapore, Resorts World Sentosa, from 1 August till 15 September 2016, while stocks last. Note that they are only available during the theme park’s operating hours, and that regular theme park admission is required.

Savour a piece of Heaven On Earth

Four Seasons mooncake

If this limited edition Heaven on Earth mini snow skin mooncake ($66 per box of eight pieces) doesn’t make them say “wow!” I don’t know what will. Each culinary objet de art boasts delicate bird motifs Cast in a calming cerulean blue – award-winning Chinese restaurant Jiang Nan Chun’s signature colour. If you can even bear to bite into it, you’ll taste the restaurant’s signature Heaven on Earth cocktail with one per cent alcohol that was exclusively concocted for the restaurant. This is a light aromatic blend of Scotch 12 years whiskey, sake, camomile and lime that’s a light and refreshing change from the usual mooncake fillings!

We’re also bowled over by the Smoked Duck with Assorted Nuts and Lime baked skin moon cake (see main image, $72 per box of four). Why? Well Jiang-Nan Chun is one of the rare places in Singapore to roast its duck in a wood-fired oven, so every bite of this delectable treat offers an explosion of aromatic smoked duck, enhanced by a potent mix of crunchy nuts and zesty lime.

Available at the Four Seasons Hotel from now till September 15, 2016. To order, contact Jiang-Nan Chin at 6831 7220 or email [email protected]

Try Blood Orange, Coffee Durian, & Nonya-inspired Mooncakes
The Pine Garden Blood Orange Mooncake

The Pine Garden is tops in innovation when it comes to baked goods and confectionary. It’s no different with this year’s mooncake selection! For something really different, try the Lemon Blood Orange Mooncake. This offers a perfectly balanced blend of refreshing lemon bean paste, mixed with Blood Orange peels from Japan. Most of all, the overall favour is light and not overly sweet, with just the right hint of citrus notes from the peels. ($15.70 per piece)

There’s also the Coffee Durian Mooncake, another new creation for this year that we love! Bite into this locally-inspired creation and let the aromatic coffee bean paste and durian paste explode in your mouth. The Crispy Skin White Lotus Paste with Nonya Filling mooncake (see above), whose hearty centre of sweet braised pork and shallots gave savoury bliss to a traditionally sweet treat, is a savoury winner.

From The Pine Garden, Blk 529, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10, #01-2369, 8.30 am – 9.30 pm daily (closed on Thursdays). Tel 6459 5507. Website

It’s cconfirmed. Hong Kong Mei Xin’s indulgent and decadent Lava Chocolate Mooncake ($33.80 for four pieces) is lick-the-plate good! HK Mei Xin worked with French Cacao Barry to create this and the quality shows. First of all, it starts with a dark chocolate mooncake crust. Next, when you bite or cut into it, you’ll reach the treasure — a rich chocolate lava centre. Finally, the packaging comes with a sophisticated gold foil embossed design on an elegant dark box, making it a classy-looking gift for the season. Hint: heat in the microwave oven (1000 W) for three to five seconds before serving before cutting into the mooncake and watch the chocolate lava oozing out!
