June Holidays Made for Families

Exams are over (or almost over). The kids have play on the mind. You need a break. Everyone loves a holiday. But where to? See our top picks here.

Villa Luxury for the Family

Imagine having your own private beach in a secluded bay, just steps away from your luxury villa. There are no “Keep Off The Grass” signs as kids enjoy free run of the space – all the better to release that youthful energy! Tweens can enjoy Angel Bliss massages and pastry-making classes. On the grounds is a purpose-built Muay Thai ring for classes for kids aged seven and up, a beachfront swimming pool where children can enjoy lessons and obtain achievement awards… Sounds like perfection in Paradise? Oh yes, and it’s less than two hours by air from Singapore!

Located on Koh Samui, Thailand, the Belmond Napasai resort has introduced a ‘Family Bliss Belmond Napasai’ package that is valid till 20 December 2014. Included in this package are daily breakfast buffet, private round-trip airport limousine service, and no extra bed or baby cot charge for children under the age of 12.

Here, the perfect family day might begin with a round-island sailing trip on one of the resort’s Hobie Cats or Laser Optimists sail boats. Snorkel around the corals and see if you can spot Nemo in the beautifully clear waters of the Gulf of Thailand. A three-consecutive-hour nanny service is included in the package so once back at the resort, mum and dad can enjoy a spa treatment followed by sunset drinks and candlelit dinner-for-two, while a dedicated Nanny watches the kids.

[Don’t worry, the ‘Pirate Samui Gang’ (that’s your kids and Resort’s Childcare staff) will be busy on a resort-wide treasure hunt or digging and fashioning a table and benches on the beach, for them to enjoy their own private dinner party from later!]

The Kid’s Menu includes organic produce from the resort’s garden, with freshly-picked homegrown fruit, vegetables, and herbs. Children could also find themselves rewarded with a special invitation from the resort’s Pastry Chef to indulge in homemade ice cream after dinner. Sweet!

From THB 37,590 (approx. SGD 1,448, subject to 18.7% tax) for a Seaview Hill Villa which accommodates two adults and one child (one King-sized bed and one Thai-style sofa bed for the child). There is no extra bed or baby cot charge for children under 12. Book here or call the Belmond Hotel Reservation Line at 6260 9495. Blackout periods from 18-25 June and 1-31 August, 2014 apply.

CLUB MED FAMILY FUN collage

Festival Fun, Family-Style

Club Med is THE family holiday vacation. Even if you have not been initiated yet, you probably have a friend who has raved over its all-inclusive packages.

Once you step foot into a Club Med village, you can stop thinking, even regress if you like. Everything is taken care of for you. Families can get inter-connecting rooms so adults can relax without the kids afoot. All meals (and quite a number of snacks too) are catered for. And children can spend all day and most of the evening at the excellently-run Kids Club. What more could a family want? We’re not sure, but Club Med Bintan is about to change the way families think of holidays.

This mid-year, take a 55-minute hop-skip-jump across the sea to Club Med Bintan for their Family Festival from 5-8 June 2014. For four fabulous days, you and the kids will be treated to a curated feast of family-friendly activities, guided by experts in each field.

There’s S-League top scorer and Technical Director of F-17 Academy of Football Excellence Steven Tan to help young footie fans with their technical skills and agility. An arts and crafts party conducted by Jay Jay Jolly hosts. And Kids Performing, Singapore’s premier children’s school for performing arts, will be conducting classes to help children develop skills in the creative arts. There’ll also be yoga, ice-cream making, batik painting, and K-pop dance sessions.

Sounds perfect, doesn’t it? I love the idea of the kids getting a chance to stick a foot in to test the waters in so many different activities while on holiday. If Bintan’s not far enough for you, Club Med is also offering a Kids Stay Free promotion (till 31 October 2014) giving children aged four to 11 a complimentary hotel stay at Bali, Cherating, Phuket and Guilin. Get those passports already!

From $875 per adult and $557 per child (rates based on superior rooms, terms and conditions apply) for the Family Festival at Club Med Bintan. Book by 30 May 2014, here.

Thrills Galore in the City

If you’re a family with younger children who do not travel well, staycations rock. Why not embark on an Urban Adventure with the Shangri-La Hotel?

Roam the hotel’s vast, leafy grounds and discover one of Singapore’s hidden secrets — a mini-rainforest in the city! There are 15 acres of lush tropical gardens for the kids to explore and wander around, with a cascading waterfall, a koi pond, and all the child-friendly amenities at hand.

The next day, gear up for excitement at Universal Studios Singapore™ located at Resorts World Sentosa. The Urban Adventure room package includes two adult tickets to the theme park, which is nicely-sized for a family day out. You can easily purchase additional tickets to Universal Studios Singapore™ upon check-in at the hotel, so there’s no need to queue later.

Other inclusions in the package: one-night accommodation in your room choice, buffet breakfast for two adults, late check-out until 4 pm, scheduled shuttle bus service to Orchard Road, complimentary parking facilities, and use of the swimming pool and Health Club facilities.

We think it’s the perfect package for a short and easy break with the family, don’t you?

Book-A-Stay, Grow A Reader

Remind the kids to pack their books for a staycation at the Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore during the June holiday. No, they won’t be studying, don’t worry! Under the month-long Book-A-Stay package, guests are encouraged to donate their pre-loved children’s storybooks when they check in.

In line with Community Footprints, the hotel’s social and environmental responsibility programme, the books collected will be donated to several children’s organisations in Singapore to inspire young children to cultivate good reading habits. Guests will receive a limited edition Ritz-Carlton bookmark with every book donated, and the hotel will match each book donation with another book.

What a great way to show the kids how they can help others! Get them to select the books to donate, explain to them why they are doing this, and let them know that this is just one way in which they can help other children in Singapore. Hopefully, they’ll be inspired to do more in the future.

This school holiday package includes a night’s stay in a deluxe room, buffet breakfast for two adults, SGD 50 hotel credit per stay (which can be used to offset the cost of your children’s breakfast), and one exclusive Ritz-Carlton Lion Beanie. Children from four to 12 years of age will also enjoy Ritz Kids privileges including a handcrafted in-room amenity, a personalised arrival activity folder, a complimentary “ice-cream pass” and more.

From $460 (subject to 10 percent service charge and prevailing government taxes), available from 1-30 June 2014. For reservations call 6434 5118 or email [email protected]
