Twins Babies SG

Thanks ladies for sharing all ur stories and experiences. Really nice to see so many twins mommies here heehee. May I know when did u all start bedrest? And recently I kept going shopping for babies stuffs but get very tired after just walking for one hr. I'm 21weeks currently.

Me too find its nice to be able to connect with other twins/triplets mommies for support and advise. Do add on to our FB group page to keep in touch, in case this forum dies off in the following years.

I had my bedrest eversince I found out that my all day sickness gone wild and it did last for nearly 4-5months, hehe. So I left my career in the earlier stage at my 12weeks if I can recall. Yeah, I can't wait to touch and cuddle my babies today in the hospital.

Lenevier, dun worry too much, just enjoy e pregnancy :) how many weeks r u now? Try not to carry heavy stuffs. My gynae told me not to carry my #1 since first trim.

Sugarbunny, my gynae told me to go on bedrest fr 25 weeks but I have to clear my work till abt 29 weeks then bedrest. Depends on individual. Wat did ur gynae say?

Pinkberries my gynae ask me to rest after cny which means around 26weeks like that. Lol I feel so tired everyday. Can't wait for cny to comeeee!!
Lenevier next mth u can get to find out about the gender already! Haha

Hi I am a new mum to be, currently at 9 weeks... Would like to seek recommendations for stay in confinement lady who is experienced in handling babies, cooking confinement food and household chores if required.

TIA for any good recommendations! :) Do provide the contacts and approximate rates if available too.

Dear all,

Applebits, it must be a handful to have triplets. Hope you have all the help you can get. I remember when I first brought my twins home, I was in awe and yet twin 1 refuse to sleep and cried whole of first night. After that I am a walking zombie and hubby was not allowed to drive to work either. Now that they are 15 months old, they are still a handful... the toddler stage. lol

I do agree with you on KKH. Although they have a clinic (so called specialised in multiple births), their services and patient care fall real short of basic expectations. Nurses are non-caring and gynae will keep pushing for reduction so they will only need to deal with 1 baby instead of 2 or 3. They hate emergency csect and anything unscheduled. I heard of a terrible case of my friend's gf whose twins died in KKH due to gynae and nurses negligence. The girl was too tramatised to seek compensation and to her, the lost is just too great to bear.

My own sister-in-law also gave birth in KKH and I must say, compared to my experience with Gleneagles, it is really miles apart. You need to push and push for the nurse to bring your baby to you. Their lactation consultant was horrible too. Brought baby to her to try, then baby cry and non-successful, nurse says "baby hungry already, feed formula, you try again later". I was shocked.

In Gleneagle, the nurses will push baby to you for breastfeeding. Once they see have visitors, will auto push baby to us. Lactation consultant was excellent. She went round the ward and visit every new mother. When she knew I had twins, she give me extra "lessons" and ensure I am able to feed one by one and also tandem latching. After discharge, she will call again to check if everything is alright.

Lenevier, may I know when do you start to feel better? I am still throwing up and am in my 9th weeks now. You are right that MC twins are more complicated then normal twins. Mine were DC twins (two placenta, two sac) and this time it is the same. According to the gynae, it is the best scenario. However, think every multiple births has its own complications and risks. We just have to enjoy the pregnancy and try to keep the babies in us as long as possible.

Welcome lenevier, sugarbunny, applebits and congratulations to all of you who have just joined this forum!! And to the rest of MOMs and MTBs here, I am officially a Mom to my current girl/girl fraternal twins from 19 December 2013 at 31weeks pregnancy. It happens to quickly and when I read back the post here, I am now related to all of the lives we shared here as Twins Moms. Triplets not yet, Heheh. Awesome applebits for being a power mommy to 3 of your precious. Proud to know you're here with us supporting this forum.

I have experienced the emergency delivery suite entry which NUH almost had me transfer to another hospital due to their NICU is fully occupied (Thanked God, I was already dilated to push). A natural untear vaginal birth for my 1st twin (Maryam) and an emergency cesarean for my 2nd twin (Fatima). Comfortably at home and on my bed, my waterbag flows like a tap from 9am - 930am, thinking it was just a leak so that my baby's sac still have chance to reseal but NO, it was time to go labor with 5mins gap contractions from 12noon onwards. It was painless as I only felt like a period cramp at my lower back till the pressure feeling of pushing gets intense. It was a hectic journey once I reached in the delivery suite due to different opinions of doctors wanting to stop my contractions which on later discussion, it was too late because it happened to quickly. I was 3cm dilate and within short mins, It jump up to 10cm dilate. I can literally feel my precious having me pushing her out. Sadly, without my concern in the earlier stage of labor, I received an injection to numb my bottom area which disable me to feel my contraction after my 1st twin was born. Nevertheless, I tried to push my 2nd out without feeling those contraction till they had her waterbag burst manually. Here comes another different opinions whereby Fatima heart beat was still stable, sac + placenta was still intact but yet some doctors do not allow the situation to rest. Having my 2nd twin manual waterbag burst was a risk and truly it was. Found out her head and 1 side of her hand + shoulder wanting to exit together and it was risky for pre term babies because they are still so frigile. Afraid that natural birth for me will fracture her shoulder. Poor Fatima. So emergency cesarean is necessary at this point.

The next thing I know, I was awake and my babies are safely delivered. Thanked God. I would really advise MTBs to register with your hospital as early at 29weeks as Twins have higher chance of early labor. It happened to me eventhough I had a healthy pregnancy. And it wasn't pleasant when different specialist doctors had to ask all those repeated question - when and what happened. Or what ward you like to opt for. And I ended shouting to ask them to stop asking because I was having pressurised contraction. Get your emergency hospital bags ready. Look out for signs of swollen feets and aches at 1-sided of your buttock. See your doctors if you need pill to prevents from early contraction because honestly, don't end up like me. Babies are now in NICU, I miss them everyday and I cried everyday from missing them so much. I rather have them in me then being in the hospital. I am now currently expressing as much of my breastmilk for their speed growth. Discharge requirements for pre term babies are to reach at least 34-35weeks with weighing at 2kg.

Here's my precious recent pictures of having them to finally carried and place on my chest - they called it as Kangaroo Care.

View attachment 163256 View attachment 163257

Both born weighing at 1.73kg and both cried after delivered - those are signs of lungs has been developed. (So eat oatmeal ok, hehe. It helps. Majority of 30weeks weight 900g as shared by my doctor experience). Current weight drop to 1.53kg which is normal to have after birth weight lost and feeding have increases up to 10ml. Seek for your prayers. I can't wait for them to get home ASAP. <3

Congrates Sharifah! Hope your babies can gain weight fast and get home soon!

Hi applebits and everyone,

Just want to share my experience at KKH.

I delivered all my children at KKH, a set of triplets in 2011 and another child in 2008. I also went to KKH for their lactation consultancy after delivering and overall, I am satisfied with their service.

There was an incident during my first scheduled C-sec for my triplets.

The first C-sec was cancelled at the very last min and I already was lying on the operating theater waiting for partial anesthesia to be administered. The reason given was the Neonates department is supposed to reserve 3 NICU beds for my triplets but due to many emergency and complicated births they handled just before my ops, they can't have the 3 beds for me. They say its their procedure and wants to ensure all high risk birth babies have an NICU bed reserved to ensure they can be cared for when needed. They know I wasn't in labour or pain or having serious complication that calls for an emergency.

So I was wheeled out of the ops room and back to the ward to wait for latest updates. In the end I was discharged on the same day.

My doctor was rather mad and think the Neonates department are over cautious as I am already close to 36 weeks. He called up the ward to request them cancel all ward charges due to me for that day and another operation was scheduled a few days later.

I was a bit upset during the ops cancellation day (because I had an empty stomach for hours and they dont allow me to eat after I'm back to the ward just in case the green lights goes for my C-sec ), but after that I tot was so funny, as if I had a rehearsal. So I went through the same thing again and one good is I no long felt nervous as the 1st time in the ops.

Only one of my triplets need NICU and special care nursery for 3 weeks and the other 2 can be discharged with me. The service and care I got from the nurses in the ward and NICU make up for any unhappiness I felt on the ops cancellation incident.

:)

I only found out at my 18weeks visit and confirmed it at my 20 weeks visit haha. Don't worry ur morning sickness will go away in few more weeks! :)
I follow up at thomson medical dr Loh SF. I heard he got more experience with twins but sometimes when he has good mood, he talks alot and when he's not in good mood he never talk much o_O

Hi Sugarbunny,
My gynea was Dr SF Loh when he was at KKH. I was lucky that he left a few months after delivering my triplets. He has lots of experience with multiple births. I remember in his clinic at KKH there are many babies photos including twins, triplets and quadruplets. The set of quadruplets are should be ard 12 years now as the photo I saw at his clinic (3 girls 1 boy) was taken at around 8-9 years old in 2011.

I'm in my 20weeks and i have confirmed that im having girls. =D
So happy to be in my second trimester. I am really hoping i can pull through safely to 36 weeks...
i'm now with Dr June Tan but there are alot of uncertainties still. My primary concern is still the NICU care since my twins are MC. Worries me alot knowing that MC twins are susceptible to early delivery. The cost.. i read cost 28k for a month in NICU? My my.... i shall really eat my oatmeal very soon.

Anybody knows the weight of the babies in your womb before you deliver? Apart from the length, are there anyway to know if the babies are growing fine?

Btw, I was told that my twins were 9% different in weight. If the difference were to hit 25%, i will have to deliver the twins. Any mommies with similar problem?

Hi yuffie
Congratulations on uur sec trimester: ) i still hanging on my 3mth plus with morning sickness! I aso having mc twins! Hope wr all can pull through 36week

Wow Sunnyside Up, thanks for sharing your experiences. And blessed to you for having triplets. I was too from KKH but moved to NUH. KKH scares me upon telling me about my babies having higher chance of down syndrome after 20weeks scanning. Very complicated senario and doctor was pushing me to go for test but I strongly refuse. I had post my story in previous pages in this forum. I am glad now and blessed that my babies born normal.

Labor experience in NUH was so adventurous due to me hadn't got the chance to register before hand and I enter labor when there is no time for anything but to push, Hahah.. after delivery, the doctor including nurses was superb. They are there for you whenever you are needed. They are honest and friendly. Would explain the medication to you before you consume them. They are all breastfeeding pros. I had 4-6 different nurses guiding me and ensuring that I know my breastfeeding well. Doctor treats subsidy patient like myself like private patients. I appreciate their presence and efforts. Visit me at my ward as promised. I received alot of great advise from the nurses for my healing progression. Always try to make me feel comfortable. It's great to share this with you mommies here. As for the nurses and doctors in NICU is beyond words. They attend to your precious all the time. Ensuring Breastmilk feeding are on schedule. Our babies are well taken care and they would call you once our Breastmilk are low stock. Hehe.

Hi Yuffie, you musn't wait..go eat your oatmeal. I gave birth to my twins at 31weeks and they are weighing at 1.73kg/1.67kg. Both of them had their last organ developed and that's their lungs. Doctors was surprised because majority of babies born at 31weeks weigh less then 1kg and do not cry when they are born. Doctor said I ate well and thats oatmeal. Hehe.. since your babies weight is under average, best you start eating them. I had my oatmeal with fruit yogurt or with milk and nestum + sugar for taste. All the best dear. <3

And yes, my babies are in NICU and each of them can reached up to 27k. Depends on how fast they move wards. They are also on subsidy which it helps alot. Hopefully our medisave covers their billing charges.

Hi sharfiah,
Does oatmeal really help for baby weight? When shld i start? I now in 12week plus!

Happy New Year to all mums and mum to be!

I have delivered set of twin girls in May 2013 and I have a Brest Friend Twin Nursing pillow to sell:
I can be contacted at [email protected], self collection at Yio Chu Kang MRT.

Wishing all a smooth pregnancy and happy motherhood : )

To add on, I delivered my twins at week 38 and I believed a couple of things helped....

I drank lots of plain water abt 3 litres a day coz water helps to prevent pre-term contractions and brings nutrients to the babies by keeping the body hydrated. Plus I ate lots of protein during 1st 2 trimesters, dairy products all trimesters and carbo in last trimester. Whenever possible, I try to rest by sitting or lying down so the calories consumed can be channelled towards the babies and of coz relieving pressure on the uterus.

Hope these work for mums to be as it did work for me.

hi everyone, i am new here=) i am pregnant with twins ( a boy and a gal ). Currently on my 6th month. i got a question to ask...

my leg experience some red rashes but not painful. is it normal?

Hi fuzzycat, thanks for ur advices! Hope I can pull through week 38 like u! I think water and rest is very important for having twins, unlike Singleton mommies are encouraged to walk alot.
Hi doramon tan, we are almost of same weeks and having boy/girl twins! :) I'm having rashes on my tummy and chest not itchy nor painful. But just very ugly :(

So many ppl having bad experiences at kkh ahh. I thinking of registering at kkh for second alternative in case of emergency. May I ask Thomson medical doesnt accept emergency cases?

I did all the above but guess it was just time that my twin A waterbag burst on its own - perhaps no room to grow. Couldn't wait to see the world I suppose. It's faith, hehe.

Hi sharfiah,
Does oatmeal really help for baby weight? When shld i start? I now in 12week plus!

So far it's proven to me and on some mothers I know who came across underweight baby during pregnancy. I ate alot of oatmeal during 1st trimester because babies are frigile during first 3months and with all the vomitting, I need some food to stay in so oatmeal really helps. During 2nd trimester, I balance my intake. : )

yuffie, I am also happy to be in my 2nd trimester now! Our EDD quite close... Me praying that I can pull through safely to 36/37 weeks too....

I just did my detailed scan today, both are boys! When I did the scan, was told every development of the boys are going well. Could see their brain, heart, lips, spine, kidneys, bladder etc. Twin 2 even did a somersault and surprised us. The boys currently differ in weight by 34g (Twin 1 is 362g; twin 2 is 328g).. Am a happy mum today :)

Yuffie, for all my scans, the gynae / sonographer will tell me the weight of my twins. The last weight scanned for my twins 2 days b4 they are born differs w actual weight by abt 200-300g. My gynae told me to eat 4 eggs (white) everyday to boost the weight of my twins. As she's worried I will deliver early, she gave me the steroid jab to boost lungs development once at 25weeks and 2nd time a day b4 I had my emergency csect.

Hi fuzzycat,
I found your post helpful and hope to incubate my twins as long as possible.
Just a question, did you continue to exercise in the third trimester? I am 26 weeks and take walks around the neighborhood as my exercise, but wondering if I should stop for fear of pre-term labour.

Hi Sugarbunny_ and doramon_tan
I too am having b/g twins and I'm in my 26th week. Where are you delivering your babies?

Hi lenevier! Glad to know that i have a fellow MC twin mommy here with me! =D

Sugarbunny_ I'm also with KKH but so far my experience with them is still okay. Even though the wait for consultation and scans can be really long which i hate. Service wise still acceptable.

Sharifah how do you balance your oatmeal intake? Do you eat 3 regular meals and eat additional oatmeal meal? Did you replace one full meal with oatmeal? Can advice? I'm having problems with my stomach capacity. Lately i realise the food gets stuck in the throat as though as my stomach is already full and the food won't go down. But the "best thing" is, i'm putting on ALOT of weight. Now week 20, but i've put on 8kg already. And to think that i put on only 2.5-3kg in my first trimester... My weight is soaring like a rocket, my clothes are feeling snug and i can no longer fit into my pants.

rainingcows Yarh! i also did my detailed scan but nobody told me about the weight of my girls. I am really puzzled because apparently, nothing much has been told to me although the sonographer did tell me that they are growing well, all the vital organs are there.

pinkberries84 my doctor hasnt given me any dietary advice. I'm wondering why their focus can be so different. Some gynae seems to be very generous with advise while some.. like my case.. don't really share much. Dr June told me to carry on with whatever i'm eating.. i wonder even if it means im piling on weight so generously... I'm abit terrified that i could be a bad case of an obese mommy. LOL

I did all the above but guess it was just time that my twin A waterbag burst on its own - perhaps no room to grow. Couldn't wait to see the world I suppose. It's faith, hehe.
Sharifah, I guess we do what we can and hope for the best.

Congrats on the birth of your girls! I delivered mine at NUH too under Prof Biswas. Hope your babies can go home soon : )

Bapple, I didn't exercise throughout the pregnancy except for daily walking and I sit wherever possible or take short breaks if I walk too much. During the last trimester, my tummy was huge so walking was pretty taxing and makes me breathless.

I guess it's to your comfort level and do check with your doc too on the risks.

Hi Yuffie, I would eat oatmeal during breakfast only. It won't gain your weight. More on your babies. So you can have them during breakfast and wont go hungry till afternoon, hehe.. I always start my meal with fruits like kiwi, plum, peach or papaya and end with fruits too. Treats like mouth wash, very refreshing. You'll be surprised on how much papaya or banana helps you to bring down your food. All the best yah.

Morning ladies! I've had light brown discharge for almost a week, I wonder what's that. I'm going to my gynae tmr and hopefully it's nothing big deal.
This discharge thing is seriously getting on my nerves cos throughout this pregnancy, I've had all kinds of discharge, brown, pink and even red! All solved by week 15. And had been constant light yellow till now I've been hit by light brown again. Hope I can still enjoy my Sunday and hope for the best tmr

hi sugarbunny, How was your check up and what did doctor say about your brown discharge? There are medication for vaginal discharge that smells which is normal during pregnancy but about brown, pink or red discharge which seems blood to me is better to be close monitor. Maybe your placenta is low, hopefully not because that normally hurts. I really hope you're well. Do keep us update yah. Sending you prayers.

Hi,

I would like to join the group. I'm currently having my 2nd pregnancy but this is the first time I'm having twins. Super excited. Not sure if I can cope. Hope to get some advice here.
Currently still in my first trimester but Super bad MS. It wasn't like this for my #1.

Congratulations litingllt!! Welcome and may you have a blissful pregnancy.

It is normal for twins pregnancy to have double the MS, hehe. You will need to find your suitable food to ease your MS and especially that stays in. I usually encourage mom-to-be to have oatmeal for breakfast. Have it with flavour yogurt or mixed it with milk - really up to you. Oatmeal helps babies to develop. Breakfast is really important and not to skip. If you can't eat, have a hot cocoa drink or Apple juice. Have small meals or healthy snacks. I ate MacDonald breakfast alot n eat anything else that I feel like eating at this stage bcos my MS was horrible. More like a whole day sickness. HhaAhah..!!

Thanks for the advice Sharifah. True enough the morning sickness last all day. When will it ever end?
I'm hoping to do all that I can to help my twins grow. My #1 was pre-mature and I'm worried more for my twins. scared my body cannot carry them till full term.

You're not alone dear litingllt. All of us here are also afraid that we do not make it to full term. In fact majority of multiple pregnancy are born earlier but hey, many make it to full term around the world. We as mothers will do our very best to give the best for our unborn child. At least now you know you had went through early labor for your previous pregnancy and i am sure this time your doctor will put you on medication to prevent early contraction. They is still hope, be hopeful yah. :) Being stress also play apart.. there are cases of mothers who overly stress that went to early labor. I guess I am 1 of them - just realising it recently. I was having all healthy pregnancy till I was very upset, till I couldn't sleep, till I cried at night in my sleep. For giving birth to my princesses at 31weeks, weighing at 1.73kg/1.67kg was really a good weight compared to other babies who are 1.1kg and below as what my doctor said.. their lungs was fully developed. Thanked God. I love oatmeal bcos I know its for them and It do not grow to my self fats. Now after 3weeks, I am lower then my weight before I got pregnant. Know whats good for them n you. You can do it mommy!

Congrats litingllt! Don't worry I believe all of us will make it to full term.
Hi sharifah, thanks for ur prayers, the brown discharge was gone in two days and everything was fine. But ytd I started having lots of clear watery discharge is this normal? Guess I need head down to my OB later. Btw hopefully ur girls can go back home by this week! Saw them on fb they are so adorable!

Thanks for all the advice gers. Let's continue to share our experiences and support each other on.
Sharifah, do enjoy the process of watching your gers grow up. Every stage changes and be sure to capture all moments. Do you have any help with your babies?

Thanks Sugarbunny!! You're most welcome dear, are those clear water from the babies sac??? Better have them check. Is your pad soaking wet or just so so. If so so, maybe it is just a small leak and at least there is time for the sac to reseal. My sign of labor was uncontrollable over flowing of water then followed by contraction every 5mins and it feels like period cramp at my back.

Yeah litingllt, every stages changes and I feel like bite bite them head to toes. Heheh!! Currently I am staying with my mum but not to sure if she will help me out as I have made promise to my husband that I'll multi task once babies is back. Hehe.. there is so many power mommy here. Will grab some advises soon.

A boy and a girl, so lovely!! Congratulations mommy for making till full term for your precious twins. Did you experience natural birth? I wonder how it feels like to give birth to twins with their weight above 3kg, Heheh.. I am sure you feel so heavy carrying them till 37weeks. I am real excited to get my babies home soon. Hope for good news tomorrow.
