hi!

I am contemplating to changing gynae from tmc to kkh/sgh due to costs involved.

For tmc, we need to pay Additional $6000 to secure my gynae to deliver for me at any time in tmc only. (maybe just for dr yvonne chan).

As I have 50% chances premature/ c-sect, dr yvonne from tmc recommends me to go kkh or sgh. But i have bad experiences at kkh a&e and have little faith in them.

I hope that my future sgh/kkh gynae will be there when i need them. Need to pay additional costs to secure them?

I haven't had experiences with Kkh A&E but personally feel that SGH A&E is not reflective of the services at gynae. You may like to request for labour ward walk through at both hospitals b4 u decide on which to choose.

For both hospitals, I believe you pay for "private" rates ( ie a1/b1/b2 bed wards), u will secure your gynae. I'm not sure your reason for securing your gynae, but if it's for privacy reasons, think kkh& sgh allows some medical students ard during ward in and delivery if u give permission for their presence. Not sure of the practice in private hospitals so pls pardon my lack of knowledge.

Also, if gynae so happen to be away during that period, juz haf to make do with the stand-in doc.

hi!

thanks for the advice! ya, but the quotes given by counter staff in hosp and online always differ alot. haha

my gynae was dr yvonne at tmc, but not guarantee deliver. she says may endup midwife or any other doc. sole clinic. so i felt unsecure esp she says i high chance premature. need to pay additional $6000 to secure her.

so changing gynae to cheaper one as well. found dr tham at tmc half the price, and guarantee deliver (unless he handling another case/sick at tt time)

I was with Dr Yam Kwai Lam @ KKH. Love him to death, funny, genuine and really friendly. However, he does not do delivery, joked that he cant see clearly because of his age. I told Dr Yam that i want someone as friendly, good and nice as him.He then referred me to Dr Goh Shen Li @ KKH. True enough, met Dr Goh 2 or 3 times, she is great, detailed and very friendly, sweet and genuine as well. But at the end, I changed to TMC because husband and I prefer private hospital. I miss Dr Goh but too bad she does not practice in private hospital.

Dr. Goh is sweet n caring.. She is willing to listen n answer all the questions.. She nv Chase you out or rush u out of the room.. I really like her...

I delivered my boy in 2012 in tmc.. My Doc was KC Yeo.. His charges are reasonable.. I went through emergency C-sect and it only cos me about $3000+. I highly recommend him as he was my mother's gynae as well.. Highly recommended.. Going back to him for my 2nd one..

Hi, I think that dr Ong xiao hui is good.

i would recommend Dr CK Khoo too from KKH. Had my 1st baby delivered by him and i do not have a word of complain.. Though the appt waiting time can be quite long even in the private suite, he is very patient and answers all queries without rushing and doesnt beat around the bush! Wonderful Dr.

Hi All,

Any ideas on the waiting times at KKH / NUH/ SGH for gynae checkups?

Last time when I preggy, waiting time at SGH about 1-1.5 hours at Gynae Prof Tay .
actually depend on what timing you go for your apt also.
got one time when I go there he got emergency deliver bb for patient and I wait about 2 hrs there.

I had very bad experience with Dr Khong at KKH. My bb born at 4.5 kg but he never informed me earlier even I keep asking how big is my bb during check up, he just simply reply quite big. at the end I "enjoyed" painful for more than 8 hrs, he came and told me hv to emergency caesarean. Total bill I had to pay 7k++ for emergency caesarean only!!! If he told me earlier baby so big i wouldn't try normal delivery due to safety & I can save few thousand. I was very angry and really can't understand why he didn't scan properly for my baby size during check up, very un-professional even he is collecting "Profesional consultant fee"!!!

I have only 4 times experiences in KKH and NUH.
Overall time for NUH are mostly 2.5-4 hours and KKH are mostly 2 to 3.5 hrs.
Sometimes the overall time will be exceeded to 7 hrs for both hospitals.
KKH took so long time because you have to queue for the ultrasound and another queue for the doctor in another area nearby.
KKH doctors does not do ultrasounds but they have their own specialist to do that in another area. These specialists do not advised anything but ask you to ask the doctors later.
NUH doctors do the small ultrasound in their room but sadly do not advise you much. Not professional as I see.
Ultrasounds equipments are important devices and a lot better equiped in KKH. NUH's ultrasounds are mostly like toys or for pets.
NUH is lacking of sitting chairs and the waiting time is longer.
NUH is slightly a bit cheaper but poorer service than KKH.

Both NUH and KKH have a lot of students doctors everywhere until you deliver. I have seen 4 students in one gynae room and a big bundle in pediatrics cardiac room.
When I delivered naturally in KKH, there were only a young baby doctor and a gynae doctor (both about 25 age).
The baby doctor did not even care to let me see my baby after delivered.
The gynae had tried to sew my vagina back for more than 1 hour but unsuccessful. Later another gynae about 35-40 yrs old came to sew it.
Both of the young doctors do not know what is some of my husband prompted medical term which learned from the web. My husband is just a normal non doctor. Both doctors does not even care what you need or want.
KKH does not inform the patient or customer promptly. They always give you last minute shocking news.
NUH does not diagnose properly on ultrasounds so this may be very big complications to some of us.
If your baby have complications and need to abort urgently, NUH will not care and ask you to go home first while postpone to next week for a bed for you.
Both NUH and KKH clinics have only one experienced consultant while the rest are residents doctors whom are still in learning stages.
What I had experienced, both NUH and KKH are not professional.

Can anyone please advise us what are SGH differences compared to both of these hospitals?

Hi babythumb

My ex co-worker introduced Dr Chua Hong Liang from SGH to me, and I did a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy in SGH last Friday to remove my cervical polyps and to check my Fallopian tubes. The surgery took about 1.5 hours. Dr Chua is a very patient Gynae, and every nurse I met was pretty nice (i think there were more than 10 of them from different departments, from pre-op to post-op), they even called me on Sunday to follow up. my wounds.

As it’s a day surgery, I didn’t stay overnight. So Im not sure about the over night experience. I’m not pregnant yet (i really hope it'll be soon), so I’m not sure about the delivery experience in SGH either. I’m surprised such good the services could be found in a public hospital. I’m so glad that I didn’t choose Dr Loh from TMC because his prof. cost itself is almost my entire surgery cost in SGH, excluding anesthesia cost, and TMC's costs.

If im lucky enough to get pregnant, I will be going to SGH and of course Dr Chua. So, I really hope to hear from other’s experiences in SGH too. :)

Its nice to hear your good experience.
The good service is mainly because you have chosen this doctor with the fees incurred. Of course this doctor must provide a good service or else it is pointless to elect a doctor.
I am wondering if you do not choose a doctor, what is the condition and situation because this is the one of the most important part to verify if the hospital has good service.
In every country in the world, local government hospital will be always a lot cheaper than the local private hospitals in all aspects.
