PCOS....

Thanks Mrs Carice!

Are you doing the test at KK? I've seen Dr. Loh in KK that suggest that I go for the test for any blockage. I did not follow-up on that. Do let me know on your outcome.

Jia you!!

hi can anyone recommend me a gynae who is experienced in diagnosing pcos? i have all the symtoms except for the mutiple cysts..only have 1 cysts n 1 fibriod..

i have been to 2 gynaes..one diagnosed me with pcos but refused to give me any medication to take except to ask me to exercise to cut down on my weight..the 2nd gynae diagnosed me with not having pcos simply bcos i do not have polycystic ovaries..

i am quite upset over the whole thing..

Mrs Carice, i think Dr Loh is good.. but the waiting time is really too long and i think he is too busy to care more as he has got too many people seeing him..

i dont feel comfortable with him.

how was the test that you went and any gynae to recommend for pcos?

houseoflove - you can try dr loh in kkh. he is a very experience dr. for my case, he gave me metformin and ask me to exercise to loose weight. but he has really alot of pple seeing him. so expect a long waiting time. actually dr loh didnt tell me abt me having pcos, but he prescribe me w medication tt is for pcos. it was another gynae tt i visited at mount eliz detected and told me more abt it. i was then refer to undergo pre-diabetic treatment. keep a happy mind... cheer up!

sorry if anyone had posted this qn before. but is there anyone who managed to conceive with the help of clomid and metformin? thanks!

hi houseoflove, he is dr sf loh. fyi, i stop seeing him. i'm instead seeing dr christopher chen at gleneagles. dr loh waiting time is usually 2 months and above... n on the actual day, do expect to wait for more than 4 hrs to get your turn to see him for less than 5mins. maybe first visit longer, cos need to do scan. good luck!

Hi everyone, i'm new here.
I was told that i got PCOS just before i got married last year. Its really quite devastating to know that. i just celebrated my 1st year wedding anniversary and i've got a surprise gift that i'm already pregnant for 3 months without knowing. ( i'm also blessed with no morning sickness and stuff till my 1st trimenster is ending)

I got pregnant naturally without any prescription from gynae. And i still have irregular menses like 2, 3 months all these while. I've learnt so much after reading this forum and realise i have little knowledge of doing all the checkups and stuff for PCOS.

What i did is to encourage my hubby, just try and enjoy whenever we can. *hehe. I didnt even buy ovualtion kit. And i do not have problem with my weight, and i play tennis every weekend till i know i'm pregnant.

So it just happen without me knowing. And please dont buy pregnancy kit Guardian brand with 2 kits inside. I tested and i tot its negative. :p

However when joy comes, the next moment, i got really scary results from Oscar test. Another devastating moment for us.
I just went through Amnio test and really hope my baby will be blessed with good result in 2 weeks time.

I'm 4 months now and I just pray that my baby will be healthy. As a PCOS Mummy, its really a gift from God. ITs a miracle and i really hope that miracle will follow me throughout.

To all of you here, wish you all the best and do believe that miracle will happen!

Hi,

I was diagnosed to have PCOS in 2007. I went through a series of treatment which includes clomid, metformin, gonal-F jabs, LH jabs, Keyhole Surgery to remove cysts in ovaries. I finally got preg with my first child in 2009(after one and half year's of trying).

Then, when i wanted to have a second child, I also went thru clomid + metformin + gonal-F jabs, LH jabs. I was preg again. This time was faster as we already know what combination of treatment suits me the best. So I got preg after 2 cycles of treatment. However, it was not a viable pregnancy as there was no heartbeat.

So I went thru the treatment cycle again. I got preg again after 2 cycles. Now I am 7 weeks preg.

So, with determination and positive atitude, I am sure the stork will deliver the baby soon!

Hi Rachelle, when is LH jabs given to you? How many times? Is it self jab also? And may I know who is ur gynae? Thanks Rachelle.

Hi all,

I'm plus-size and have been told that i have PCOS too by the TCM at Jurong and then her recommended gynae Dr Fong fr Gleaneagles.

I stopped taking the herbs after 3-4mths and now I'm tinking of going back on the herbs to "tiao" my body too...and probably to c the gynae. But somehow I'm abit skeptical at times cos on 1 hand I know these things take awhile n yet on the other I have doubts on whether it really works...
sad.gif
at a loss on whether I should or should not continue... :|

It's quite mind boggling and depressing when we have been TTC with -ve results and it doesnt help when pple ard u keep asking when's yr turn or when u learn of someone who has jus conceived esp if its a close friend, of cos I'd be v happy for the person but when i dwell longer on it, it can get depressing.

So here I am now stuck in between... whether to continue with the Jurong TCM (and put up withthe long wait and hafin to travel all the way to the west in the wee hours of the morning) and her recommended gynae or seek help elsewhere (Gynae alone or both TCM + Gynae) *siGh*

Hi All,

For PCOS, did any of you took any surgery or just took clomid to help. I took 3 course of clomid, ovulated on the 2nd course but it din work in the end. Recently went to see another gynae who said i might have PCOS, still waiting for results. Going for review tomorrow.

hi!

I am getting ready to start Clomid today! (also got it on www.generic-meds-store.com )
Kinda nervous, yet excited.
Have been TTC# 2 for almost 3 yrs and have finally come to the realisation that I might need a little help.
Have been taking Metformin for 2 yrs and it has regulated my cycles.
Will keep you updated.

Baby dust to all of you!

Hi there, not sure if this thread is still 'alive'?

I have just been 'diagnosed' with PCOS thru a CD4 blood test. Can anyone share how long is their TTCing journey with PCOS to a Big Fat Positive?

I have severe PCOS. Took clomid and metformin for a short time but stopped because of very bad side effects (nausea, vomitting, giddiness, easily irritated etc). So taking medication was totally out for me. Only way out for me was to control my weight (my BMI was classified as very obese) and my diet. Luckily, this worked.

Moon: ic. How long did u take to conceive ur 1st baby after u lost weight? Did u take any other medication?

R there other successful pcos stories to tell here? Esp those who took metformin and striked soon after.

Hope to get some motivation here.

Hi TTCing,

After I stopped taking clomid and metformin, I took up a slimming package with a very well-known slimming agency - easy way out. But after 4 months and a few $$K later, I lost only 2kg. My gynae told me this 2kg is actually water and not 'fats', so in effect, I did not lose any weight at all. I was very depressed by this. Luckily, I had the support of my hubby. He came up with a very strict diet and exercise plan for me. I followed this plan for 1 year and lost 10kg. Shortly after, I got pregnant. And no, I did not take any other medication cos a test later showed that I was allergic to many of the medicines prescribed to women who have infertility problems (which is why IUI/IVF are out for me - tried IUI many times but failed).

After I had my first kid, I was disciplined enough to follow the same strict diet and exercise regime. 2 years later, my second kid was born. After this, I lost discipline and within 6 months, I gained back all the weight that I had lost previously. Then last year, I went for a medical check-up and the doc told me my weight was dangerously obese and I was at a very high risk of getting diabetes and high blood pressure and other health problems. So got scared and went back to the same old diet and exercise regime. Guess what - my #3 is due in Oct.

At the end of the day, clomid and metformin is a very good first step. But if you are exceptionally obese like me (> 80 kg), and are allergic to these medicines, then dun despair - losing weight will help a lot. In fact, my gynae said if one is on clomid and metformin, and complement with good diet and weight loss (are 10%), can greatly boost chance of conception.

TTCing,

Clomid+metformin works for some PCOS ladies but like some other ladies here, it totally didn't work for me. Instead, I suffered from side effects such as nausea etc. I tried a laporoscopic surgery known as ovarian drilling which is supposed to help induce ovulation. The effects of this surgery is supposedly good for about 12 months or so, after which cysts will reform on the ovaries and inhibit ovulation again. The laporoscopic surgery was more useful for me as I conceived naturally within 6 months but the pregnancy ended up in a 1st trimester miscarriage due to bb no heartbeat.

A few years later, I suddenly decided to go on a low GI (low fat low carbohydrate) diet and strict exercise regime (intensive jogging at least 3 times a week) on my own. Within 3 months, I lost about 15kg. The amazing thing was, 6 months after I started my exercise and diet regime, I conceived naturally again (no western medications, no TCM, just daily multi-vits that contained folic acid). According to my gynae, the chances of 1st trimester miscarriage for PCOS ladies is very high (40% as compared to 20% for normal ladies), and hence, I was given hormonal support (injections and oral pills) in the 1st trimester. The pregnancy went well this time round.

So for me, medications and surgery were not the best solution. Eating healthy and exercising regularly were far more effective. I agree that it's an uphill tasks for PCOS ladies to conceive but it's not impossible. I TTCed for 7 years before having my child.

moon and meowie323: Thx for your replies. Glad that u both went on to have kids.

Moewie323: R u overweight or obese as well? For me, my weight is acceptable at 50kg, not fat, not thin/skinny but I do not know why am I not conceiving fast. I have my menses every mth but not regular (like other ladies' menses at every 28 or 30 days kind).

I just went to see a TCM who prescribed a few medicine in the form of tablets, capsules and liquid form and told me to complete all these daily for 2 weeks. I should have gone last week upon having my menses. Guess the 2week medicine is to strengthen my body and womb first before going to her again for other medicine. She also mentioned that my upper body is heaty but womb cold.

I will also try to exercise at least twice/thrice a week now, to keep fit.

Thanks once again for all of you gals' kind advice

Hi TTCing

Stress at work is another factor to consider. Are you working? If yes, are you in a stressful job? Or are you in a not-ideal-for-getting-pregnant job, e.g. one that requires you to fly constantly?

Another point to consider is - why is it that when we cannot conceive, it is always our fault, and we have to try ways and means to conceive? Hubbies got no part to play meh? My sis has been married for 10+ years. Have been TTC since day 1 but no joy. Her MIL kept blaming her and pestered her to go for TCM, western medicine etc (my sis also has PCOS - runs in the family). In the end, found out that my brother-in-law was the one with the bigger problem - very low sperm count and very poor quality. By the time we discovered this, they were already in their early 40s, too late to do anything (according to her gynae).

memowie: glad to hear about your success stories. I have been given meformine for 6 mths and did 3 cycles of fetility pills (clomid, etc) and it did not work for me. Doc suggested to me today to do overian drilling as during the procedure, he will like to find out if there is any blockage of the tubes (HSG shows 1 side is block). He will like to do the corrective surgery at the sametime too. I am very puzzled - not sure if i should go ahead for the drilling, after all it is a surgery - it sounds so scary.

Anyone else did the ovarian drilling before? any experience to share?

Hello can someone advise me my last menus 19 July 2012 til now no come and I did the test today neg.Should I wait or what? I always have irregular menses. This is the longest I miss my period with neg result.

Hi Moon,
Thx for your reply. My job is not a stressful one but as I need to work around the hours of the Middle East and Europe zones, I work till late evenings most of the time. Not sure if that might be a cause?

Now, I have been taking TCM medicine for the past 3 weeks and hope to tune my body better for ttcing. Hopefully, this will work out for me.

Btw, is there a thing called PCO, a milder version of PCOS?

sagincancer: Do u have PCOS? Maybe that is why u have irregular or late menses? Would suggest that u seek help from a gynae or TCM.

noted, thanks. I have replied u via PM.

Btw, do u take milo ko-song or 100plus? Heard that 100 plus is good for those ttcing?

Pls enlighten me

PCO = Polycycstic Ovaries. Which means there are just multiple cysts on the ovaries.

PCOS = Polycycstic Ovarian Syndrome which is actually more of a hormonal issue. May want to see an endocrinologist (hormones specialist) tog w a gynae for best treatment.

Hi ocean blue,

Thx for the explanation.

So is PCO serious or might cause infertility? It seems that PCOS and PCO are similar. But I understand that there is some medicine to take for pco to minimise the cysts ?

Can anyone pls enlighten me? Thx so much!

My name is Danielle. I was diagnosed with PCOS Bout 5 years ago. I have battled cervical cancer, had major surgeries to remove pieces of my cervix. Drs told me I would never conceive and that if I did I wouldn't carry full term. I was devastated because all I have wanted since I was a child wasvto be a mommy. I went through so many fertility treatments and nothing worked. Every month it was a negative result. Now I have weight on me and I went through some major changes and struggles in my life. I lost weight and started a new path in life.
I read about a spiritulist online who helps with herbs and prayer,i tried her products and it worked perfectly for me.I m here to seek you all advice on what to do to pay her for her help, she said i should give her anything i feel like and i want to tell you all to don't lose hope. I am now the proud mommy of a 6 1/2 month old little boy that God truley blessed me with. Keep your heads up and if any of you need to talk shoot me at

hi.. just wanna share my experience.

HB n i ve been trying for a baby for about 1 year before gg to see a gynae, at that time, the doc says that i ve PCOS.. after a few times of eating the ovalation pills, he ask mi to consider to go for the ovarian drilling operation, which i decided to go for it.

After that, less than 6 mths, i got preggy with my first baby, she is 11mths now.

When my first period came, it was so heavy that i went to see the gynae, and he says that my PCOS is even worse and given mi ovulation pills.

Only 1 time of ovulation pills, m preggy wif the second baby now.

so dun get disheartened...
