Dr Heng Tung Lan

I am not saying she is not nice. This is my first pregnancy so at least to advise what food I should avoid, don't carry heavy things etc...infact, it was her nurse who told me what I needed to know. I just find that if I don't ask, she won't say anything at all. My appointment with her is always less than 10mins including the scan.

hidora, did you deliver at East shore? Good comments about the hospital?

When I was pregnant with No 1, my appt with her was about 5 mins including scan. If I have any doubts, I will raise my questions to her. Most of the time, I just do my own research on the internet. Frankly, it's easier doing a google than getting her to answer anything once a month.

I delivered at East Shore and to me, that's an excellent hospital to deliver in. If you decided to stick to Dr Heng, then let me prepare you...

Don't expect her to be around through out the hours you are in labour. She has many patients delivering on the same day most of the time. I only saw her when I was close to delivering. She came in with a chocolate in her mouth, checked my cervix and said "How come you still haven't dilate fully? I go finish my chocolate first."

To some people, they may not be able to bear with such an attitude. But to me and my hubby, we knew that the labour was going on well, and there's no need for concern. In fact, my hubby said she is the most confident dr he has ever seen. He felt safe putting me in her hands.

Also, the midwives are not around most of the time. They will only come in to check on you once a while to see how the dilation is going.

Back to ESH, it's a very nice hospital. The nurses are great, the lactation nurse is even better. You can call her up after you discharge if you have any prob with breastfeeding. She is pro breastfeeding but if you need to formula feed your child, she's totally ok too.

The food in ESH was great and I heard it still is. They are generous with snacks and drinks. If you need any drink in the middle of the night, they will give you hot milo with crackers. If you are not able to take care of the newborn, the nurses there will handle the newborn for you.

Basically if I'm not staying in Perth now, I will choose Dr Heng and ESH anytime to deliver my No 2. In fact, when I went back for holiday a few mths back, I took train all the way from Woodlands to Bedok just to see her for scan.

hi all...

i am new here.

i am seeing dr heng for my pre-pregnancy check-up.
still haven't decide if i'll use her for my pregnancy
since she's only tied to ESH & i want to consider other hospitals too...

any advice?

I delivered my 1st child @ East shore with Doc Heng. I visited Doc Heng clinic @ bedok and mayb it's always crowded hence i have very little time to consult her more. Anyway Doc Heng is a chop chop type of gynae unless complication otherwise she'll just do the regular check & scan routine and off you go. Delivered my boy thru C-section and she does a very nice cut & stitch - hardly visible coz really low bikini cut. Showed it to my frds & they're impressed with the stitch. East Shore Hospi simply wonderful. Never seen such caring nurses before not even in those labelled '5-6 stars' hospi. Lactation nurse i think her name if Ferlin - she's so so patient and even conducts courses teaching new mummies hot to BF, burp, shower/change BB etc.... The confinement meals super delicious that my HB looks forward to sharing my meals everyday. Highly recommended both Doc Heng & East Shore Hospi

Jolynn- wow, thanks for sharing, it's definitely beneficial for 1st time mummy like me too... great to hear good comment of both Doc Heng & East Shore Hospi, i'm looking forward for my delivery this early dec with Doc Heng @ East Shore Hospital, btw what will we bring back at ESH such as Bath tub etc??

Hi Girls,

I would say Doc Heng is a very experienced doctor and I like her as a gynae. I was unfortunate to lost my twins due to a missed miscarriage this week. However during the prcoess of D and C I find she give the necessary support as a gynae.

She is also very experienced because one look at my tummy she was able to tell the babies have not grown and during the ultra sound she immediately was able to confirm our biggest fear.

East Shore nurses were also very nice and supportive which we highly appreciate during our painful day at ESH. I was still heistating during the beginning of the pregnancy if ESH is the one but after this experience my hubby and I feel there is no doubt where we will go for our next pregnancy.

hi all. i am currently seening dr heng, and is due this dec12. shes is a nice lady gynae..however...the consultation may be too quick but most importantly..she makes me feel assured that everything is ok for me n my baby n im glad

hi s.z.a, i'm seeing Dr Heng at ESH, due on Dec 2nd if baby not too excited to see the world early :p... yeap Dr. Heng is great!

hi, anyone have any latest updates for delivery at East Shore hospital normal delivery with epidural? and the max medisave deductable....

I only know normal delivery without epidural cost $ 800++ after $2100 medisave deduction...but i heard with epidural will cost another $600++ more... so need double confirm

thanks!

im with dr heng currently, and i like her.
she's very patient and caring, and sound very assuring.

the first appointment cost around $150 with vitamins and scanning.

i gonna stick to her.

I don't think any gynae would do 3D scanning weekly. 3D scanning is expensive and only to be done when u reached certain weeks and u will need to ay additional for this 3D scanning. In fact when I refused to get this 3D scanning unless of course if I have medical reasons. Read this for more info.

If I am not wrong, u will be charged for the 1st visit and then u can get their package which will cover from ur 3mths to the day u gave birth consultation. This do not include extra supplements like Fish Oil (which is $40+)and other extra supplements. I think they do provide free multi-vitamin and folic acid. U ve to check with them again cos they might have some changes since the hospital changed management last year and they had done quite a revamped. After ur 1st visit, u can ask the receptionist to provide u the hospital charges plus docs fees. It is also important to tell her (in 3rd trim) that u prefer certain brand of milk if u r not going to breastfeed and allocate ur own PD in the same hospital. Otherwise, she will choose for u. I do not like her recommendation for the PD who is Dr Low... so after 2mths, I changed to Dr Malathi who are more responsive and has better medication. Now there is one more PD in the building... Kinder clinic... heard the docs there are quite good and seldom crowded.

Dr Heng Tung Lan address in bedok area:
445 Bedok North Street 1
Princess Theatre Building
Singapore 469661

She's gd for normal pregnancy. If you have complications, the cost will be very high. I've had an infection and they refused to allow me to see the doc earlier, even though my appointment is only 1 week away. In the end, i have to pay additional $120 for the consultation + medication. Also note, the visitation will not exceed 5mins, even if you have lots of questions to ask her, should it be your 1st birth.

Hahaha... she did that to u too! Mine was... "U r almost there... keep on pushing and I will be back in 10mins for my lunch." True enough... she came back... 10 mins after she came in... I gave birth!

Hi all, I would just like to warn some of the mum's to be who are thinking of visiting the popular Dr Heng Tung Lan at Eastshore.

After reading all the wonderful comments about her (she is supposedly the most popular doc in ESH), I decided to see her for my 2nd baby, as I wanted to deliver in ESH instead of GEH where I had my first child.

I made an appt see her on a weekend last month, and I had made the appt one month before. The receptionists had told me the doctor had too many appts if i wanted to see her on the weekend. Since she was supposedly a good doctor based on all the good reviews, I thought no harm waiting a month. I was about 4mths pregnant at that time. I had told the receptionists that I do not mind waiting to see the doc, but they told me they do not accept walk ins.

On the day of the appt itself, i was all hyped up and ready to see the doc, and I made sure my hubby and i reach there way ahead of our appt. After finding the clinic, to our dismay, we found the clinic closed. We felt that something was wrong, and tried calling the clinic but no one answered. We were angry and disappointed, and we called up one of our friends who recommended a doctor in GEH. On that same day itself, who saw the doctor at GEH, as i am already 5mths pregnant and i haven't taken any tests. Luckily for me the doctor at GEH is good and we signed up the package with him on the spot.

I did not bother calling clinic anymore to find out what happened, and i never received any call from them to remind me of my appt (if i ever had one in the first place). I can't comment on HTL's skills, but I feel that their business could be so good that losing 1 or 2 customers is negligible. Personally, the front office staff should be shot whoever gave me my appt.

MORAL of the story: Think twice before deciding to see a supposedly popular doctor (i.e. Heng Tung Lan). Your joy and anticipation may end up in frustration.

It's pretty normal for her clinic to be overcrowded even during weekdays, that is why appt is needed. There is also opening hours stated at the front of the door and if I am not wrong their clinic is closed during lunch hours. As u know, Gynae are sometimes needed at the delivery suite... so u ve to expect that in the midst of waiting for ur appt, suddenly the gynae had to leave for an op or a delivery. This are the kind of things that no one could anticipate. The other cons is also that her timing when checking u... after waiting for an hour, u could be only spending less than 10mins with her. Some plp prefer to spend longer time and ask all sorts of questions... for me, I would rather have the short check up cos whatever info I need could easily retrieve from the internet.

It is more of a choice and sacrificed... I was amazed on her predictament on when I would be delivering and how she encouraged me during the delivery... and not to forget her encouragements when I was stress out and my HBP shot up because of the anxiousness during my 3rd trim. The point is she said what I wanted to hear and she has never encourage for C-sect.

Need some advice. About 7 mths Pregnant with my third baby. Gynae is from gleneagles hospital and happy with him for the previous 2 deliveries. But he only delivers at gleneagles and I stay in the east. Worried that this time cannot get to hospital fast enough as I had a very fast labour for my 2nd one. Also, he will be on leave quite close to my due date, so now considering if I should switch gynae and deliver at parkway east hospital instead.

There seems to be limited choices of gynaes who can deliver at parkway east though and mostly female gynaes. Actually I always prefer male gynaes. The most popular one seems to be dr heng, so I called up her bedok clinic to make enquires. The receptionist is not too helpful and only seems keen to get off the phone. Anyway, realized that her charges is higher than my gynae in gleneagles. Her scan is more expensive. Can anyone enlighten me if her scan machine is the sophisticated and high tech kind?
Also, when I asked if she will be on leave next year march, the reply I got is that they can't tell as sometimes dr heng will only let them know one week in advance and go on an overseas conference or trip. Has anyone experienced that before? Would also like to know her current delivery charges. The receptionist refused to tell me over the phone.

Would really appreciate it if any mummy who recently been delivered by dr heng share with me her charges. Need to decide if want to switch gynae soon. Thanks

She's my gynae when i was pregnant with my twins and number 3. I delivered my twins at 37 weeks, normal delivery. Yes, she doesn't encourage CS that's why i liked her coz during the first consultation i told her that i want to try to deliver the twins thru vaginal birth if there are no issues like position of babies, etc. that was 2008.
My third baby was born on new year's day this year delivered by Dr. Heng as well. I was in labour room eve of new year , with epidural until the epidural wore off by midnight and baby came out at 1 am, no more epidural!! Dr. Heng came just in time. She's really good.

You can pm me for hosp rates and i can share my bill. Everything that the hospital used is detailed on the bill, so you know what you have paid for.

Oh, and the receptionists who will answer the phone for appointments are not only for Dr.Heng patients coz there are other specialists in that centre, receptionists will only entertain you for appointments unless they will transfer you to Dr.heng's nurses.
The nurses are also quite busy as Dr. Heng's appointment intervals are every 5 mins apart so patience is really important when you chose her to be ur gynae. Prepare yourself to wait a few mins even if you made an appointment.

Hi KV, thanks for sharing.
I had very bad experience with her recep as well and decided that i will not spend a single cents on such terrible service. I will rather pay for good front desk service + responsible experience and assuring doctor even if it cost more. I won't want a doctor to be chewing chocolate when checking on me, it is so unprofessional!

Hi, I had her for my 1st child. Don't like her service at all. Always rush us until sometimes I cant remember what to ask. And sometimes when she answer our qtns, is like not answering us at all and making us look stupid.

I changed gynae after my 1st child. The second one very good. Though he got many patient, he make sure he explain our doubts and make sure he understand.

I saw her for my first pregnancy, which ended up in m/c. When I asked her for possible reasons for the m/c, she told me sometimes it just happens.

1 year of trying later, it was time for my annual checkup with her, so I raised my concerns about the lack of success and if we should consider doing some tests. It took me a year to get pregnant and then miscarry, and then another year without success, seemed reasonable for us to be concerned.

Her advice? You're fine, don't worry. I'll see you when you're pregnant. And that was the end of my checkup with her.

Perhaps she meant well and doesnt advocate too much medical intervention, but 2 years of waiting is enough for us, brushing us off with a so-called 'positive' advice about seeing us when I'm pregnant is not helpful at all.

We decided to switch gynaes and are being taken care of by a more proactive and caring doctor. Glad we made the change.

Hi Seraphinee,
Care to share which gynae did you switch to? Was with Dr Heng for my 1st child a few years back. Trying hard for the 2nd one but not successful. She tell us to keep trying but I would like recommendation for other gynaes who are more proactive, perhaps we need some tests to see what's the problem?

i took dr heng for my pregnancy (gave birth in march this yr). yes she's fast, sometimes to e extent of me spending probably less than 5mins in there cos she just scanned me & say 'ok, baby's good. i see u nx mth'. i mean, i waited so long & wanted to ask so many things but she's always so rushing like that :/

Selina: first consult fee $100 n scan is abt $80. 12wks onwards can take up her package at $800. Includes consult fee, ultrasound scan n vitamin.

Hi all. I had Dr Heng for my 2 kids. During my 1st baby I was a bit disappointed at the shortness of the appointments, but then I realised that a lot of the answers I wanted I could find on the internet. Dr Heng would be able to answer specific qns, like whether I was fit to travel etc.
My 1st baby came out within an hour, so with my 2nd baby, Dr Heng told me she skipped her hair appointment to prepare for me with my history of quick deliveries. Turned out my baby came out 5 hours later, and had the cord around his neck. I could see the concern on her face, but I must say she was very calm. It's true, she does say things like she'll go finish her lunch first etc, but I dont see why the gynae should be around throughout the whole labour. Or maybe it was because she's my first and only gynae, so I have different expectations.
I like that she's jovial though. It beats having a serious gynae who gives sarcastic answers ( I have heard of those from my friends).

Just my 2 cents' worth.

She delivered my brother 16 yrs ago and my 2 sons in 08 and 09. Very experience doctor though she may be busy. Her experienced and systematic nurses can help answer your queries too.

I am having my first at age 36, been trying for many years. Am going into my 14th week.
Have not seen a gynae yet, and by recommendation of my GP, am going to consult Dr Heng + deliver at Parkway East.
Will ring them up next week for a first consultation.

I scanned the entire thread here and seems like her rates increased reasonably. The last I read here is $180 for first consultation fee and $800 for package as of December 2012.

Does anyone have an update for 2013 now?

Also, being totally 'not knowing what to expect' as with all new mothers, need to clarify a few things to make sure. Do bear with me
happy.gif

1. Do I still need to pay for consultation visits even when I take up her package?
2. Besides blood test, pap smear, scanning - what else is being conducted in the first consultation?
3. What are the subsequent visit fees and what is being typically checked?
4. What is the purpose of her package versus engaging a midwife, namely from Babybliss.sg - are they actually the same thing?

Hope someone will provide some advice. thank YOU!

Hi Jeannie - am currently seeing dr heng and at 25 weeks with my first child. Guess by now you would have had your visit and the package price is the same 800. Her consults are monthly, and quite short 5 mins but she'll address any questions. Each visit is a routine BP check, weight, scan and go, but they start making you do the urine check from 20wks on. You get the multivitamin and calcium as part of the package.

Hospital, delivery fees and costs for other tests - blood test, detailed scan - are all separate.

Hi, can anyone tell me more about Dr Heng Tung Lan Charges? I am having #2 and have visited her twice and find her prices on the high side as per what is discussed on the forum. Is it normal that normal delivery costs $2000 and assisted normal delivery is $2500?

Hi Radiohead

Even if you have contractions at the same time as your sis, it depends on who dilates faster and the nurses will call her once you're ready to push. The nurses and Dr Heng are really funny upon thinking back. When the contractions came, they were like a cheering squad encouraging you to push but once the contractions are over, they all turn and watch TV etc etc. My hubby was quite amused. After the birth process, Dr Heng can still joke with me and say ... so the next one you'll use epidural?? Well at least I didn't claw my hubby or yell at him during the process, just requested for an extra pillow and buried my head in it.

Dr Heng is still the same cheery person at delivery but she did threaten to use assisted delivery if I still didn't push properly coz she didn't want bb to be in the birth canal for too long. bb could have come out much faster but in the midst of the same, forgot that I had to breathe in and push immediately so I breathe in and out then push. In the end, bb went in more.

When I was in the delivery ward, there was another lady also under Dr Heng and she came in earlier than me but in the end, she delivered abt 2 hours after coz her baby was bigger.
Hello i m looking for gynae now as i was turned down by dr esther ng (she said cant take me as she will be away during my EDD).
May i knw does dr heng deliver at mt A?
How her charges like?does she has gynae package?
Can share me her contact too?
Thanks a lot guys:)

doc heng only delivered in parkway east hospital
her clinic at parkway east hospital and cassia crescent (old airport)
Hi how was your experience with Dr Heng ? And how you find the environment and nurses from parkway east hospital?
Any idea whether Dr Heng sells gynae package? and how much she charged for normal delivery?
i m really running out of clue on which doctor to choose:(

all I can say she is very very packed and crowded. even with appt made I still gotta wait an hour. and she is super chop, less than 10 mins and I'm out. to be honest if I can turn back time I won't chose her as my gynae. I picked her because people said she is good and package reasonable and her clinic is only 2 blk away from my house BUT
1) when I feeling unwell I can't c her. call her clinic they said her appt all full cannot accept me anymore. 2) she is too fast in checking whereby I cannot even ask extra questions 3) the waiting time. even with appt also wait very long.
other than that, her package is $800 based on 2013. her normal delivery is $2300 (if I never remembered wrongly).

to add, I feeling unwell at week 37, told her to give me mc and she rejected and asked me to shift my ML ahead. previously I was with Dr Esther Ng, whenever I feel unwell she is always avail to see me and nv reject in giving me MC when I am sick.

Ops shocked to hear tht. Yeah i dr esther ng always offer me mc even during my 1st visit i was actually bit shocked:p
But too bad she cant take me as she is away for conference so i left with no other option.
In fact after i booked appointment with dr heng and told my hubby he said he actually still feel more comfortable if i can deliver at Mt A.
But i really do not have any clue which doctor to go to anymore :(
Dr h k ho is vy ex too and Q is vy long as well.
:( :(
Ya i think dr heng Q shld b long when i called yestdy the nurse did sounded like no slot n i gotto book 2-3wks beforehand
I requested her call me if there is earliest slot she replied they wont b able to call patients as they hv toooooo many patients:(

Yes gynae package is $800 and will increased to $1k in june.delivery charge is $1.8k the nurse told me.
Now i m bit hestitate as u said she is chop chop type. Main reason i choose her cos i thot she is like esther type vy friendly.
O my gosh now:(

To me, even tho she is very chop2, whenever I have questions, I'll list everything down and after the scan, will sit down and she will explain thru all the questions I have and never rush thru the answers tho. She is friendly as well as most of her staff. Am comfortable there.

First saw her for my miscarriage last year and she was very assuring. So stick back to her for my current pregnancy. Am alrdy in my 35th week.

She'll inform early if she'll be on leave. So, no issues as well.

About giving MCs, never really know as I always go for Saturday appointments. Max time for every appt wont take longer than 1hr 15mins. I think that's standard tho. Taking into account that she might attend delivery calls within the hospital.

If u are looking for female gynea, maybe u can try google dr jasmine mohd. I think she deliver at tmc, mt a, mt e novena. My cousin was with her and she seems ok, I suppose.

am with dr Heng too... the q is long n have to wait an hr plus at times... consultation is short but she dont mind to answer to your queries... Can feel that her skills are good.. Not sure if she does delivery in MT A... cos if she dont, I might have to change gynae...
