Foreverfrds and all
yes just in case sld let them bring food from home, maybe for the first week. My niece told me some Q can be quite long so no time to eat. So must tell our kids to go to the stall with lesser people if need be.

Soyabean
Hard to find kid's pants wif zip unless jeans

Krn
Hmm... I din know there wz kindergarten in the Outram Rd location. Guess the kindergarten is no longer there since the pr school shifted
Wasted dat u din cont wif the pr school
Which school will u b registering for your child?

Janet
Err... pinafore n dress/skirt same, how your girl pee when she wears a dress/skirt?

Hazel
Ya Q long yet need to look for a seat. Imagine if kids buy hot food can b dangerous to carry to the seat.
Understand fm my hubby's colleague whose child is in Gong Shang dat there is buddy sys where higher pr kids bring P1 P2 kids to buy food during recess or parent can oso opt for cater food fm school. But I still think bring food fm home is the safest choice

Hi

Juz came back from registeration. So stress the school that we intend to enrol left only 65 seat and the numbers are running fast this morning.

Ocean, you stay in Woodlands? Is Evergreen one of the better or rather popular schools?

Hazel/ Bboomer71, envy you gals that your kids are going to Pei Chun pri school. Thats near my mum place... I am aiming to send my boy there in 2012. Not sure how high my chances are since thats a good n popular sch.

soyabean,
i m oso in bt panjang.
happy.gif

but i m eyeing bt panjang pri. school, nearer to inlaw hse.

mummy mummy,
so the no. in phase 2b will be divide by 2, 1 batch for PV, 1batch for active community leader/clan etc?

Foreverfriends Honey,
Pinafore is actually a full piece like a dress. When daughter was in Nursery, she didn't pull up the back of her uniform and wet herself when peeing. That's why I always had to put an extra set of clothes in her bag. The kids are allowed to change to another set of clothes if they are wet with perspiration after outdoor.

Liz,
Now that you have registered, it's a load off your shoulders. Of course, it's always easier said than done but next worry is whether balloting is needed or not. All the best.

At the end of Phase 2A(2), 50% of the remaining places will be allocated for Phase 2B and the other 50% for Phase 2C registrants in a school. In the event that less than 50% of the allocated vacancies are taken up at Phase 2B, the remaining vacancies will be carried forward to Phase 2C. ↩

lizuan76,
which sch did you reg?
happy.gif
good luck and all the best to u.

hoho03...
one more bukit panjang kaki... will urs be 2C? Last yr phase 2B only 15 places taken up for BPPS, so if u are in 2C, there prob may be more places left for 2C.
happy.gif

Janet
Err.... I m confused. I thot your gal is in K2 now She is in nursery?

Hoho
No of vacancy in phase 2b is for all under phase 2b. No segretation

hoh03,
so will u be using your inlaws addy for the registration? if so, then you will be considered as 1-2km even if your inlaws is less than 1km away. In 2009, BPPS did balloting in 2C for less than 1km only.

Sherly
where do u stay? Your mum will help u send your boy to school? We reg pei chun cos my hubby was old boy and of cos is a good school, my another worry is my girl only started Chinese in k1 so afraid she can't cope! In fact we have good sch near my place n in laws place BUT didn't want to take risk! (my girl stays with my in laws drg weekdays)
So pls think carefully since u still hv two years.

Soyabean,

Register my girl at Nian Chiau,Sengkang area.
The application has exceed the vacancy. Hope we will be given a chance to ballot. Our distance is out of 1km.

Soyabean,
Evergreen already got 36 children registered... aiyooo... Their PV alot of pple, that y when i first called, they told me no place and also past year, also need balloting..
sad.gif

sheryl (lailai)
Yap, stay in woodland. Evergreen, is one of the popular school gua. Haiz... very little seats left.. am abit worry...

Dear All,
For those who have settled a school, guess now is to teach basic thingy, like buying food and toilet training. My gal still not confident to wipe herself clean after poo. So, she will call for help after that. and she is very shy to order her food too.

For those in 2B, good luck. Think ur chance is still higher lah.

For those in 2C like me, wish us lots and lots and lots of luck.

Hazel,
My daughter started Chinese tuition only this year (K2)...same goes for my son who is in P4 this year. Many said that boys tend to be weaker in Chinese, but he surprised me in P1.
Pei Chun is a SAP school. Kids get adjusted pretty fast.

Mummies in 2B/2C,
All the very best to you next week...don't mean to be a wet blanket but applications this year is rather scary but I hope the dual ballot slip for Singaporeans will work for you.

You can ring & enquire the sch directly to find out if they're affiliated to any sec sch & how many pts deduction. Some sch may have so little discount pts for affiliations.. as good as don't hv.. Some may bear the same name but not affiliated like RGPS is not affiliated to RGS. Thank God that we asked when we were deciding which to register my girl in last yr.

Most sch has buddy system for recess. For those that don't have like my girl's, they'll have PV & prefects to help out. Usually for the 1st mth, sch will encourage them to taobao from home.. not hot soupy stuff if they buy from canteen. It's a practice in my girl's sch that every girl will bring 1 pretty lunchbag to sch everyday.. even the teachers/staff bring lunchbags too.. They don't encourage caretakers to bring food from home... The sch gate will be closed during sch hrs incl recess time so no way for caretakers to bring food in. Can only bring in after class before CCA but security can come nagging... They have to learn how to buy their own food eventually. Usually the older kids will help the P1 kids so no need to worry. If worry you must, then volunteer to serve as a PV during recess time or during the 1st mth of orientation period.

1 big hurdle is to get your child used to sleeping & waking up early if it's single session. My girl's sch bell rings at 7.20am but expected to be in sch by 7am for 20mins of silent reading. Taking traffic jam into consideration, she has to leave home by 6.40am so need to wake up earlier to get ready. If take sch bus, need to wake up even earlier... My girl asked me on that 1st wk of sch why we woke her up at nite to go to sch, not knowing it's already morning but sun not fully up yet. My boy (2yrs younger than my girl) was puzzled in Jan when his sis goes to sch at nite & returns only in the afternoon next day. He thinks his sis is very hardworking..ha..ha...

oceans,
so far the number of registrations for Evergreen at phase 2B this yr and last yr is quite close. but last yr phase 2C alot of registrats than places! Pray hard that the lower birth rate for 2004 is indeed true for Woodlands....

Hi Oceans
Evergreen as of now, vacancies at 2B2 is 60, registered only 29 and its already 4pm. Likelihood, about 30 will cross over to 2C making it 90 seats. Perhaps it will be good news for you.

Seeing the figures now, I feel like registrating my girl in Evergreen which was my choice before i shifted out of <1km....

But the one near my home now, Greenwood, will have abt 121 seats and I am within 1 km. So = more chance. I also scared to risk if i fail to enter in Evergreen, then at phrase 3, i get a far away school or a not so good one...
sad.gif

Really hor....

soyabean,
my hb is a RC member, so will be in 2B.
but we are now looking out for hse nearby the school for <1km, not sure is it nec., since <1km is phase 2C. haha

CP,
If you're planning to register your child in a school with affiliation wif sec school, do check out MOE website. RGPS is NOT affiliated to RGS. Marymount convent doesn't have affiliated sec school. St Anthony's Primary only has affiliation to SJI for the boys.

soyabean (soyabean)
Yes, pray hard for the low birth rate. Kekeke... Really? 2C lots of pple? Was very happy to see only 36 registered. So now probably left with 84 seats. Hopefully no surprises..

Janet
I dun really think the 2 chances for Singaporean will help especailly for normal neighbourhood school....

Linda,
So how? U going which school? 6 yrs of Pri school education, so guess it is probably worth the time and effort to check out. Stressful leh..
Btw, Woodland got few not so popular school leh. Wonder why...

Hi mummies,

Does anyone know if we rent a property within 1km of the school, how long must we rent before we enrol and after that, how long must we stay at that address?

tks!

Ocean/ Linda, is greenwood popular too in woodlands? Which are the better ones? I supposed Evergreen will be gd since there are limited spaces.

Hazel, I live in woodlands bt my mum takes care of my kids since birth...will let her continue taking care since both hubby n myself r working. I want to place my boy in Pei Chun,bt very worried abt e chances since it's a gd sch. My mum stays within 1 km fr e sch. If nt,gt to settle for Kheng Cheng if he cnt get in there. Nt sure of any better schs in TPY area Liao.

Oceans,
If there is a high percentage of PRs going for the school, then Singaporeans will have better chance...but it's really hard to say now, as figures since Phase 1 has surprised (and shocked) many.

Any idea when will MOE update the balloting. Mostly i need to go for ballot liao but still can't see how many seat left for us.

Hope will be able to share good new with you guys next wed.

lizuan76,
i think it will be updated tomorrow. MOE staff prob dun work over the weekend. :p good luck to you!!
happy.gif

oceans,
i hv the past yrs stats in office. i can update you tomorrow on how many people reg in 2C in 2009 and 2008.
happy.gif

Hi Ocean
Me only have greenwood or admiralty within one km. In Kiasu parents forum, the most pop pri school in woodlands is admiralty and from what I have read in various places, they are very focus on academic. However that's not wat I feel suited for my "天塌下来,当被盖“ girl. So only choice is Greenwood. I met a Chinese teacher in one of the Pri schools in woodlands at my estate and she mentioned Woodgrove is good too.

Hi Sheryl
Actually Evergreen was my top choice, as I heard it is very nurturing and focus on character building. Comments from my girl's kindy teacher whose kids are there. But I shifted out of 1 km from them so I also dare not risk going in at phrase 2C since the school is quite pop too. At phrase 2C, both Evergreen and Greenwood has about the same number of vacancies but I understand there are more applicants at Evergreen than Greewood at the same phrase.
Quite subjectable to say which school is "good". I always think that every school also have good and bad teachers, but the school most basic form of education (ie values,) must co-incide with what we want.

Hi

After long consideration i decided to enrol my boy at Woodlands Primary School even thou' I can choose Woodgrove Pri as these 2 sch are within 1km.

Woodlands Pri is juz next to my block and for Woodgrove we need to cross 2 ways heavy traffic, plus another road to reach the sch, as for my boy character i rather play safe, b'cos it is a 6 years matter.

And from what i know recently Woodlands Primary, they've just change their principal which is what i like and i did ask some parents which their kids there, quite good feedback loh and now the sch imply more to Values which is a plus point to me as what i believe Values/Moral is very important at this age, "mould" them, previously heard lots of unhappy happening from parents whom their kids are studying there.

Before i decided Woodlands Primary, My 1st choice is Woodgrove Pri.

Hi jolene
my niece and nephew are in woodlands pri. so far they are enjoying school. only thing i heard that some of my niece's teachers were always on leave, and they had relief teachers all the time. and they cannot finish the school text on time so had to attend extra classes. This year however, this issue was less apparent. I think the school improved over time too.

I found out that RGPS is not affiliated to RGS when I attended the PV interview. So I switched to SCGS when I registered my girl last yr. My boy will be going to ACS Barker as my hubby's an old boy there.. registering next yr.

Msmummy ~ If you intend to rent for P1 registration, min is 1yr but play safe 2yrs so that yr child is still staying in that address when he/she completes P1. But it's a risk as staying <1km is no guarantee for a place secured.

Hi Linda

Ya think the changes started after the New Principal come. This Woodlands Primary has been around for more than 30 years. Overall the principal is very important. Now i look at their Parents Circulars is so different from previous,
Btw you gal in New Life too rite? During "hunting" of Pre-sch we "Met" in the forum too. Haha

Hi Oceans,
I have checked. Last yr for Evergreen, 85 places for 2C and 154 applications. They did balloting only for <1km.

Hi CP,
RGPS is not affiliated to RGS, which is why take-up rate is not high. But it's nice to know both your children are able to get into good schools with affiliated sec school. Your headache is solved for the next 10 years.

Soyabean,
Thanks. But oh dear.... so many people?? Haiz.... So sad... dun understand y the school dun let me do PV...
sad.gif
Wish me luck ok.

Oceans,
All the best to you. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.

For me, my hubby and i are going down to Beacon Pri to take a look this wed. After reading what the paper said abt the sch, our decision abit shaken. Now we may put Beacon on our choice list. But we're 1-2km away from there, while for Greenridge, we're less than 1k.

Last yr for 2C, Greenridge had ballot for those <1km, and Beacon had ballot for 1-2km.

I told my hubby that many parents may turn towards Beacon like us, after reading the papers, so the fight may be tougher.

hoho03,
I see... hehe... then you have done your homework and prep! good! not like me... haha... didnt do anything and just have to wait for 2C. :p

hi CP,

Tks for the info - I was eyeing MGS and we are phase 2B and are actually currently 1-2km from the school, but this year is scary - phase 2B <1km also have to ballot! So we got kindof worried..

How does the school check if we have rented the place for how long?

msmummy,
this yr MGS is one of the schools that have taken alot by surprise. one reason could be the condos that are sprouting up near the sch.

Hi Jolene
Haha...so fast hor? From hunting of pre-school to hunting for Primary school.... Our little ones grew up liao.
Yes, I agree with you, the principal is important, even good branded schools may end up being bad due to shuffle of teachers and principals. Hence, I literally see no point in insisting on a branded school.

Hi Oceans
You may wish to see if there are other choices available.... almost 2x the number of applicants is to spaces is rather risky.

soyabean, hoho03
I'm also staying in bt panjang. Registered my girl in Pei Hwa as hb is old boy.
Didn't consider bt panjang primary sch as the nearest within 1km primary is West View. Then Greenridge within 1km but still need to take sch bus. Beacon is out of 1km and CHIJ out of 2km.
Dun want to go thru ballot hence put my girl in PH. But scare of the traffic jam leh.

dear mummies,

WOuld like to know if both parents must be present during the registration? Or can i just bring hubby's IC with me.
Coz hubby may need to travel during next week's 2C registration. Thanks a lot
