Zavier,
Wait till i go in first.
happy.gif
O, shld say my gal goes in first.

Hmm... Yap, the school still ok, that y i wanna to work as PV to increase my chance, but school says application closed.
lame.gif

So, hopefully with the change in policy, i have higher chance to go in, else, i cant imagine how tiring my mum wld b cos me working mah...

Then, for you how? Have any school in mind liao?

Janet,
For u, it is distance verses good school hor.
happy.gif
See how lah, u still got half a year to decide. But think this yr top student come from neighbourhood school right? Thus, to me, as long as school ok, and near, i will jus go.
happy.gif

Ocean,
Ya... I think i might put her in my old school. So i will be in Phrase 2A2. No need to work as PV (anyway also too late liao
biggrin.gif
). No need to think so much. She sure get a place there. But the only thing bad is the distance only
sad.gif
.

Which Phrase will u fall in??

Ocean,
My neighbourhood school is a SAP school - both Eng & Chinese first language. My son is in the school, in P4. For daughter to get in, it's no sweat (Phase 1). But hubby is concerned I would be stretched with both in same school.

Zavier,
We are in the same boat - Phase 2A2 but distance is a problem. Based on past history, no need to ballot. Now I hope the school (if we have decided) will operate on single session, so that she will have the afternoon to rest.

Zavier,
Me? I ran thru the list again... Sadly, in Phase 2C. See how far behind i am. Cant do PV or community svc as it was already too late...
sad.gif
Now only hope my luck is good lor.

So, in terms of distance, how long will the travelling be?

Janet,
So, you wanna to go to a diff school as ur son? Same thing, how much time will u need to travel? Afterall, this is 6yrs of education.

Or else, mayb u bring ur gal to both school and see which one she like, since both are good school?
happy.gif

kao_kiss.gif

Ocean,
Every day (sadly), I'm still asking myself, 'WHICH SCHOOL?'

My hubby looking at statistics to decide the chances at Phase 2A2. So far, Phase 2A2 has no balloting so far. Nobody can tell the future, that's why hubby thought of my former school which has affiliated sec school. Don't have to worry too much about cut-off point at PSLE.
Drove past my former school b4...daughter said, 'I like this school'

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Ocean,
Like that very risky leh. Phase 2C need to ballot or not??

Actually my former school is not very far from my house. Is that there's no direct bus to reach there. Have to walk a short distance before reaching the school.

Janet,
Is it stressful to study in a SAP school?? Cos my former school is also a SAP school. Want to prepare myself first.

Zavierr,
SAP school has Eng and Higher Chinese as first language. I find Comprehension tougher as compared to Chinese as 2nd language. School expectation is also higher. My son is an average student...he has to work hard to maintain his results at his present level and not falling further down the lower classes.

Hi all,

Feel stressful after reading all these.I will fall under Phase 2C and preparing them for Pri 1 next year.It is not ez to juggle with work and family.

Hi Jachang,
The stress at Phase 2C is no joke. Even though I was at Phase 2B then, it was equally stressful.
For my younger child, hubby & I will calculate her chances of getting into my former school - Phase 2A2 bcos we stay > than 2km away. Son's school is SAP - Higher CL and Eng as 1st language is NO joke.

Hi Janet,

Ya.Now the standard is very high.I bought K1/K2 English assessbooks for them to do and they r learning collective nouns. Some I ve forgotten and ve to check the dictionary.I ve twin boys and it is not ez to coach both.Stress....

Zavier,
My son is an average kid. He has to work hard to maintain his position to stay in the average class and not drop further down.
I told the tutor I will want my son to drop Higher CL next year, but tutor said no harm letting him continue if his results are ok.

Jachang,
I've bought quite a bit of K2 books over the past year. Try to follow the school syllabus but no harm doing a bit extra in the assessment book. Yet to start K2 Eng book...most prob next week after all of us (including myself) have settled down.

Zavier,
That y i am worried lor... But i came to know PV only in Aug last year. And when i check.... got a shock that registration closed in jun/jul....
sad.gif
Worst, the school tells me for the past years, got BALLOT...sob sob...

Then i think of joining as grassroot, but if the 1 yr still applies, same lor.... also cant squeeze in Phrase 2B.... Haiz....
sad.gif

Janet,
Higher CL is chinese right? Goosh, i was reading the hanyu pin yin, and i totally forgot how to pronounce some of them...

Jachang,
Not easy... i felt stressful too... I have already decided that if i cant go in Phrase 2C, wonder if my MP can help?

I only wanna go to the school cos it is within walking distance from home...

Hi Ocean,

Let's keep our fingers cross. Don't want to stress over things that r beyond our control. What we can do now is to prepare them for Pri 1.Definitely there is a place for them it is just a matter of which school.Cheers.

Jachang,
Which school u wanna to enroll?
I agreed definately got school... but i cant afford it if the school is very far away from my place. So scared ganna west or east, when i staying in extreme north. Even AMK, i find very far from wdld...

hi ocean,
For pri sch in Woodlands, there was no balloting at phase 2C for the past 3 years for the following:

Marsiling
Qihua
Si Ling
Woodlands

So might not need to ballot if you register at one of the above sch. Is any of the above sch near your hse?

Ocean,
If it's within walking distance from home under Phase 2C, is distance within 1km ? Starting fm tis year, Singaporeans get double chance if balloting is required.

Higher Chinese is more difficult than Chinese as 2nd language. I'm preparing my daughter for P1 earlier as compared to my son. I started him rather late...at Term 3 when he was in K2.

ycys,
Thanks. But nope, not near my place at all. The school already told me for the past few years, there is ballot.
sad.gif
Wonder how to incr my luck, cos i usu very suay one. ]clipart{lame}

janet,
Yap, that y mine is 2C lor...
sad.gif
I know abt the 2 chances. That y i posted for others to read too. But as mine is a neighbourhood sch, not those "branded" school, dun think much impact on me, as majority are s'porean too...

Btw, so u sent ur gal for classes? Higher chinese very diff leh. How u prepare her?

Ocean,
Don't say until like that lah.... Must think postively. Or else sure stress out.

For my case, i already decide to register her to my old school even though is quite far from my house. But i no need worry so much. Cos i really don't want her to go to the neighbourbood school at my side here as many negative feedback from that school.

Janet,
Ya... i also want to know how u going to prepare your daughter. Everyday i try to spend ard 30 min with her to go through some work with her. BUT..... sometime me very tired and she show that she is not interested also... then her pattern show.... stomachache... hungry... Sigh... ( i also know she might be tired cos she in the full day childcare came home should relax watch tv... play .. but she was force to study again...

Oceans,
I started my gal on weekly Chinese tuition for hanyu pinyin (basic). On my part, I teach her to write words based on the theme for the term. This term is on 'Food'...so I teach her to write 菜,肉,瓜,豆,米,吃。Still thinking about sending her to my former school which uses CL as 2nd language.

Zavier,
My daughter is also like yours - hungry, thirsty, sleepy etc etc. Same lah. But I am stricter with her this year as compared to b4. I've marked out the syllabus to teach her (Eng/CL/Maths). I ask her to tell me what her teachers teach everyday and then revise with her. 30 min everyday.

Anybody know how to teach English??

I realise my gal can convey better in English. But she can recognise and write more Chinese words than English. Don't know why??? like..
-妈妈是护士
-我喜欢吃面包
her K1 听写

Oceans,

I'm teaching her based on the theme...don't want to stress myself too much on her. Only K2. As for Chinese, I will teach her simple stuff.

Higher Chinese is no fun...my son came back with his 1st 听写/默写 list 2 days ago. I almost fainted seeing some characters. Can't look up in the dictionary bcos I don't even know the pinyin. After some 15 min, I found out it is 翘 (qiao4)

Zavier,
Urs no choice lah since ur neighbourhood got lots of negative feedback. Mine still ok and din really hear any feedback actually (both gd or bad all dun have). So, i guess no feedback is good feedback gua. Hahahhaaa..
biggrin.gif
I already signup as volunteer from PA and the RC called me for meeting. I doubt i b in time for 2B, but jus try, and if still cant go in, i will approach MP.
happy.gif

O, ur gal K1 听写 so difficult? Goosh... faint...

Janet,
So, everyday u spend half an hr per subject or jus half an hour for all 3 subjects?

My gal finally got her first "spelling". The 6 words given quite simple:"head, mouth, fingers, leg, eyes and one more word, i cant rem liao. This week, they are learning Body.

I seldom hear anything from her Chinese class.

O, btw, some of Pri 3 spelling are Outrages, Contagious, and also students are required to make sentence out of the words...

Zavier,
I really don't know yet...the school which son is currently in is stressful leh, even though nearby. But her character is diff from her brother...dont know whether I can cope if put her there.
K1 has 听写 ?

Ocean,
Your daughter has spelling ? I think mine will have spelling in the later part of the year. I still have about 5 months, will seriously think about it. My former school is not as stressful but I think the English spoken is better than my son's school.

Ya... She got 听写 and spelling since K1. N2 every weekend she got homework to do.

I still remembered during my N2 mid year parent n teacher meeting. Her teacher told by end of year those children will be able to write their chinese character name..... (I told myself sure or not 4 yo can write seem like is mission impossible leh. And... they really did it!!!)

Janet,
Seem lk u r hesitating to let your gal register to ur son's school cos it'a a SAP school right (correct me if I'm wrong). As i mentioned previously, my former school is also a SAP school. U really sound like it is no joke to study in SAP School. N I'm thinking to back out to register her in already. Cos i also afraid that she can't take the stress...

STRESS..... STRESS....STRESS...

Ocean,
All the best to you
happy.gif
(Help me wish your gal "Happy Belated Birthday")

Zavier,
You're right.
I am hesitating bcos of 2 reasons: 1) SAP school using Higher Chinese 2) No affiliated secondary school (son's school)and as such if she wants to get into a sec school of her choice, she has to get higher points at PSLE.
Of course, that's not to say that putting her in my former school means she doesnt need to work hard...we will still coach & motivate her to work hard to do well, regardless of which school she goes to, but one stress less.

Honestly I am still at a loss despite saying all this. A friend told me to put her in older sibling's school (Phase 1 no prob)...besides I know how to teach her. Sure I do have a little experience now, but it's her character I'm dealing with. If my daughter is like my son, I will put her in the same school.
PS: Sorry for being so long-winded.

Janet,
Yap, they finally had spelling. Actually, thot she will have spelling in K1 as like Zavier, my SIL son also got spelling....

Come to think abt it, so fast got spelling liao.... STRESS...

Btw, is the school stated above one of the schools u wanna ur gal to attend?

Oceans,
I saw this list last night. My son's school is a SAP, no where in this list and yet so stressful.
My former school is CHIJ Toa Payoh...diff from CHIJ St Nicholas which is a SAP school. No link to that school.

All the schools above spell STRESS, including some which are not in the list.

Janet,
It is amazing and sad that Primary school education had become so competitive... I rem last time it is jus any pri school, but when it comes to secondary, then, the students mus really need to work hard.

Now, it is the parent that need to work hard first, securing a school... Very STRESSFUL even jus to get in neighbourhood school.

O yap, so u everyday teach half hr per subject?

Ocean,
It's sad that primary school education has become so tough and competitive now...I remember when it was MY time, the Chinese tutor got 1 assessment book from beginning to end of the year. Now I spend quite a bit on assessment books for my older child.

I've done up a simple time-table so that I know what to do with her, but not very faithful following it.

Yes, it's really not easy for parents now...so with my younger one, I will choose the school carefully. We are having enough stress with the older one already.

Hello Mummies,

When will we be informed when to register for our kid's primary one ah? I am thinking of getting my boy to get into Rulang since my hubby used to be an ex-student there. Is it a must to have his report book ah? I really blur leh...need you mummies to advise.By the way wat's the chance of getting in if my hubby is an ex-student ah? TIA.

Pocoyo,
“Bao zhong" de lah...
But you have to produce either the PSLE cert or report book.

Usually is mid of the year will start. Depend on which phase u r in.

Pocoyo,
If your hubby is a former student of Rulang, and joined the alumni, then your son will be under Phase 2A1. If not in alumni, then in Phase 2A2.

Registration usually starts early July from Phase 1.

Pocoyo,
If u dun hv both cert/report book, can ask if the sch can check their record. Cos my hubby dun hv either but his pri sch was able to dig his record and sent us an email. Will use the email under P2A2.

Mind if I ask where u stay? Cos I'm staying near Rulang too.. but too bad my hubby wasnt fr there. MIL said 20+ yrs ago, Jurong pri was better than Rulang =(

Eileen/Pocoyo,
I emailed to the school to ask about the leaving cert. The admin person told me it's the PSLE leaving cert or the report book. If I'm not wrong, have to bring photocopies and the original certs. Hubby has prepared all the documents.

Eileen,
The primary school kept a record of all the students ? That's amazing. You planning to put your child in Rulang ?

Hello Mummies,

Thanks for all your replies. My hubby not in the alumni so I think I should be in Phase2A1. I need to go and dig his PSLE cert liao.

Hello Elieen, I am staying at Jurong West near Jurong Point there. So based on the distance, I still got chance to get into Rulang or not ah? I afraid they also look into the distance even though my hubby is an ex-Rulang student.

hi mommies,

My hb is a former student of Aitong primary. However he was only there from pri 2 - pri 4.

Can I apply under Phase2A1?

Hi Ocean,

Sorry for my late response. I worked late for the past week. I thought of enrolling my sons to Canberra cos it is just two blks away my house. Now it is not a matter of which school I want to enrol but it is the school decision.I leave it to fate...Dont want to think so much.Their education already make me stress...

Hi Zavier,

My friend's son is studying at ChongFu.He told me that his son managed to get in to the best class but he is the worst among the best.It is rather stressful and heard that the school specialised in Maths.

Hi Mummies,
Education has taken the fun out of childhood. From the time the child goes to school at 4 (nursery), he/she is schooling for close to another 15 years. It's madness
kao_frustrated.gif

Kids, teachers and parents suffer.

For the past 3 years since P1, my boy doesn't have time to play. He has CL tuition bcos we can't teach him, but coach him for the rest of the subjects. So this year, I've decided to reward him with 1 hour play every Fri night.
My son is an average student in Pei Hwa. I dread to think of the kids in the top 3 classes...the extreme stress and the need to excel and compete at primary school.

Hi All

Few years back I was browsing/starting a thread looking for a preschool for my son and here I am now looking for a thread regarding about Primary 1! How time flies so fast!

I really pity kids nowadays when comes to the education system. As for me, Ive become more stress than before, wondering what'll happen next year. Not sure if he'll excel,if the school is good,if my son can cope, whether or not he'll be able to adapt? So many Ifs!

Im at a 'selecting a school mode' now and it seems we are having some prob shortlisting one!
We are about 2km away frm all the schools around us! Called all the schools, they all said we are not even eligible for balloting
sad.gif
Hw sad..

So we had to look for other alternatives meaning sourcing outside our area..Now, anyone ever had this experience before?
What will our chances be like for schs outside our area >2km??Looking at St Stephens(called and they said their Phase 2C is open for public >2km but still need to do balloting..Im a lost mummy now
sad.gif

Need advise please..

Shimmers,
I thought I saw your name here b4.
Time really flies...first have to look for a preschool and then now primary school.

The education system is tough on the kids and also parents who have 'to go back to school' again in order to coach their little ones.
I happened to talk to a neighbour whose son is in P1 this year in Pei Hwa. This neighbour is an former student, so her son got in under Phase 2A2.
I know how difficult and lost you are at > than 2km from all schools. Hope you will be able to find a school convenient for you.
