Hi Cyn and Jamie.. been sick.. and still sick.
sad.gif
Got the cold.. took medicine already, but maybe not enough sleep, so I'm taking longer to ride out the bug.

Hi Cyn.. I guess I'm lucky compared to you. My ILs are in Malaysia and visit only once or twice a year, and each time is just for 1-2 days. But so far, my MIL has been very good to me. Everytime we visit them in M'sia, she'll cook loads of stuff for us to eat etc.. So far so good la.. but living together will be very different. After all, we are all individuals and will have different living habits, I guess that's why there's always friction between DILs and MILs.

Hey Cat, you taking fenugreek issit? How many tablets do you take a day? I stopped taking already, but my son is increasing his intake so I'm thinking of taking again once I recover. The bottle says 2 tablets.. but some mums take up to 6 a day! And I realise that different brands have different MGs and can be quite drastic..

Are you still on 2 hourly feed? Sigh.. Isaac started 2 hourly feeding during the daytime recently, but at night, it's still 3 feeds per night.. starting to feel really tired.

I can't wait for him to be bigger so that his feeds will be reduced! LOL!

kimmies
oh dear, no wonder didnt see u around these days. its really tough when sick & breastfeeding at the same time. u rest well & take care yah!

Well, I took medicine for 2 days, then realised it was a Category 3 cold medicine which means it's moderately safe for breastfeeding, so I decided to stop. So, it'll take longer to stop.

Hey gals who breastfed.. need to ask you. Do your babies always arch their heads backwards when they are feeding, therefore causing difficulties when feeding?

Isaac always does that and then will cry, and it's pretty frustrating. Everytime I breastfeed, there'll be this struggle, and I'll start perspiring.. definitely.. nothing like the posters in the hospital!

kimmies
i only experienced this when bottle feeding, esp when my boy doesnt want to take his milk. dont recall i hv this problem when breastfeeding.

kimmies - 2hrly feeding? could be its time to increase his ml (ie. amt of milk)?

And My boy head arch backwards alittle when i bf lying down position but no problem lei.

i hate it when i fell ill, bcos of BF i can't take many medi.. really suffer man, whenever kena flu n sorethroat.

hope u get well soon.. rest more, drink more fluids! (i know its easier said then done)
happy.gif

hI cyn.. yeap.. probably he is increasing his intake. But to be very honest, I really don't enjoy breastfeeding at all. Firstly, I perspire easily, then my son will arch his head, lose the nipple and start crying, then he start to perspire, then I start to perspire even more! Argh!!!It is soooo frustrating.

hi all,

Will like to ask for those with older kids. Which pre-school are you considering sending your precious to?

We stayed at Geylang and my MIL was taking care my gal, so walking distance or a short bus ride will the best.

Any suggestion. Btw i am a Kiasu mummy. My gal is only 8th mth now...hee hee

kellie
u are indeed a KS mummy keke... your gal only 8mths nia so long way to go lah. anyway the nearest i can tik of is chen li church kindy along guillemard road. which part of geylang u staying?

hi all,
me here.. ya been busy with bb cos she's super demanding. always want to be carried. spoilt by hubby. i'm thinking of sending her for some classes cos I'm soooo bored at home. hahaha. I called kindermuzik they advise me to come for the Dec class when bernice is about 4 mths old. easier for her to appreciate the class. at least the staff quite honest. but they told me i can still bring her in for trial lesson if i want to.

kimmies,
i take abt 4-6 capsules. I heard from another mummie the GNC one is 610g and can take up to 9 capsules. She takes 3 X 3times a day. I take 2 or 3 times depending and 2 capsules each time. I dono if there is any significant increase cos i latch on. Ya Bernice is still on 2 hr feedings of 90ml excpt at night when she now sleeps like 4-5 hrs. So her last feed would be 9pm and she sleeps till 1am or 2am then wake up drink another 90ml and that one last 3-4 hrs. So her next usual feed is 6am which by then i give her bm. Very siong but she refuses to take more than the 90ml. So i'm just as tired as you. And bernice is already 11 weeks today.

Why dont u try holding him at the head so he doesnt arch back or try bf-ing with him lying down on the bed. i do that quite often cos i lazy to carry her.

kellie,
u not kiasu la .. i also planning for preschool already. thinking of cherie hearts at kembangan or bethesda @ frankle

Hi Cat..yar.. the last one week has been quite a nightmare. For some reason, Isaac kept crying everytime I latched him on. So demoralising.. until I finally made an appointment with the lactation consultation, then suddenly, he was better already, so I cancelled the appointment and am monitoring now...

My husband encourages me to bottlefeed.. maybe because I look pretty stressed out when I latch on, but I'm worried that my supply will drop if I expres out, so I'm starting on fenugreek now.

Maybe he had a growth spurt or something *shrug*

I tried holding the head technique, but LOL.. I have sweaty palms, so after a while, it looks like he has had a shower.. so I don't do that.. :p

Hey, you can consider classes at Babies and Cream at Great World City.. think they have some bonding classes for parents and their babies.

Haha.. Kellie.. I'm already wondering what primary school to send my daughter to, and she is only 20 months! LOL!

O yes.. Cat, you know the sleeping issue you have.. You want to try patting him? I let Isaac sleep on his tummy since he can lift up his neck already, so we usually flip him on his tummy, and then pat his bum and sing a song.. it works most of the time.. that's how Kate (20 months) grew up sleeping as well, so now we just pat her to sleep.. but there will be the occassional wrestling match though! LOL

hehe.. my boy was down with flu for the last 2 wks, I also also caught the bug from him after he constantly put his fingers into his mouth, then stick them into mine! shortly, there was one day he decided to kiss his dad out of the blue (which he rarely does even if we persistently asked him) and then his dad got it too! so ve been bz for the last 2 wks!
happy.gif

btw, how's your breastfeeding with your boy? appreciate breastmilk more when babies fall sick, it helps them to recover faster bcos of the antibodies..my boy had sorethroat and refused to take his formula, luckily he was willing to take my milk.

no, he doesn't want my breast anymore. I've been bottlefeeding him on and off because he is very colicky and is always crying.. so my hb always ask me to just give him the bottle because he doesnt want to see both the baby and I struggle with latching on.. finally.. today, he doesnt want to latch on anymore..

hmm.. breastfed babies usually don't get colic.. but anyway, if baby feed better with bottle, then just let him use the bottle.. u can still pump out ur milk although i always find that very troublesome and stressful bcos i always worry he can't finish the expressed milk and will waste them (all my efforts!) and panic when he cry impatiently while i heat up the milk (if i heat up too early, i won't know exactly when he want his milk since we can't leave the milk in room temperature for too long and then wasted milk again).

but bottle feeding may not be a bad thing, think its alot easier for bottle-fed babies to wean off BF than latch-on babies. My boy until now refuse to let me stop BF him, he will cry for me when he want to sleep, and cry louder and push the bottle away if i give him the bottle..i'm practically his pacifier!..so i don't know how to stop..

Hi Cyn.. my only worry is that my supply will drop if I use the pump instead of direct latching. With my first child, I also fed her EBM, and could only sustain for 4 months. Yes, you are right, my husband actually encourages me to bottlefeed so that my time will be more flexible (actually, I think he just wants me to continue fetching him to and fro work! LOL! ) .. also, I am going for a vacation in December with my daughter and hb, so my son will have to bottlefeed again, but I'm worried about my milk supply if I start bottlefeeding him now.

anyways, I tried this trick yday by giving him the pacifier, and then pulling it out after a few sucks and replacing it with the nipple. It actually works, and he nursed for 35 minutes. That is the longest nursing time ever since he was born! As a result, he slept from 7PM all the way to 5AM! If only everyday was like that..

I called the LC at TMC today, but she has asked me to bring the baby down for her to see, and also told me that my "trick" is not a good method. Haiz.. but I feel anything that works is good lor.. even if it means I always have to have the pacifier within my reach while nursing..

hehe.. ur trick is the opposite of mine.. i wanted to stop being the pacifier to my son by swaping my nipple to the real pacifier while he fall asleep during BF, it worked only for awhile, after a few times, he outsmart me! he knows its not his mummy's nipple when i swap, and he will push the pacifier out and cry really loud! hehe
happy.gif

btw, how old is ur baby now? maybe ur son is colicky bcos he isn't latching on properly, that's y he suck in air instead while trying to BF and also bcos of the failed attempts latch-on, he also become very cranky.. leading to more stress for mummy.

when u try to BF him, did u hold ur nipple upwards pointing towards his upper mouth? i find that's the trick for latching on. try to ask ur LC how to do the lying down method.. it really help.. its a very relaxing method (which is crucial for successful and enjoyable BF) for both of u since he will gain weight everyday, eventually he will be very heavy for u to carry to BF. I use the nursing pillow (belt around ur waist) to BF when my boy was 0-2mths, it help me to learn how to handle him better while BF, better latch-on bcos my hands are free (no need to carry him). but when he got heavier, the pillow can't support him.

mayb if u want, i can go over to ur house to show u how to BF lying down.
happy.gif

btw, last time when i was still working, i express my milk and i find some days are good, some days ain't.. but after i stop working, i let my son latch-on, and the supply came back. Are you taking any milk for breastfeeding mothers? i heard that's good also for supply.. plus my secret to good supply is actually eating more fish, spinach and also Black Beans Soup!.. During my confinement, i didn't drink water at all, i drank only the red dates longan drink with Black Beans added in it (most ppl didn't add in Black Beans). i had lots of supply! it worked for my sis and sis-in-law too.

Hi Cyn.. hahaha.. like you said, you have the opposite problem of mine! My baby is now close to 3 months, just 1-2 weeks younger than Cat's daughter. Actually, I had previously suspected if he was latching on properly and ask the LC Betty Lee to come to my house, but she told me it was correct. I know what you mean by holding the nipple pointing towards the upper lip.. for me, I don't need to do that because my son always arches his head backwards, so that part is easy.. i've also learnt how to BF lying down.. and sometimes I will do that. The problem is my son likes to be carried! The moment his bum touches the bed, he will start wailling..

I was previously taking milk and soy bean milk to boost supply. It really works, but after a visit to the PD, he told me my son has alot of wind, and I should avoid all dairy products and I googled and found that I should avoid soy bean milk as well, so I'm off it now.

My supply was coming down because I had been busy with my daughter and other stuff, and didn't find enough time to drink soups and eat well, so now I'm doing it.. hey, my friend told me about black bean soup as well! In fact, I'm cooking that for tonight's dinner.

Sigh... my son fed at 445AM for 20 minutes this morning, and by right he needs to drink at 745AM, but at 830, he didn't want and was crying so badly.. we finally put him to sleep without his second feed. I guess he must be too sleepy for a feed..or maybe he's bigger now, and doesn't need feeding every 3 hourly anymore.. since usually he drinks for 10 minutes only. But still he was still crying and crying, and finally, we gave him a bottle and he took it and is smiling now. Sigh.. I also don't know what to do.

How long do you usually BF when your boy was smaller, do you remember?

BTW, thanks for your offer to come over to my house.. really appreciate it.

glad to know he's latching on correctly.
happy.gif

when my boy was abt 0-3mths, he latch-on duration varies (range betwn 10 to 20minutes) but he only drink from one breast.. then he doze off, sometimes only 5min! i was worried at first, but then since he didn't fuss, i let him be. But even if its only 5min, i feel lighter, i guess he is just a fast drinker/sucker!
happy.gif
.. however, i noticed if he drink only <10min, then it doesn't last him very long, he may want again 2hrs later.. if he suck for abt 15-20min, then next feed is 3hrs... but bcos he had reflux, i had to carry him upright for abt 45min, so in awhile later, its his next feeding liao..its like never-ending!

when he 4mths, i went back to work after ML, so he was on EBM most of the time, he latch-on only at night.. he was drinking abt 180ml (every 4-5hrs) when he was 3-4mths old, we were so happy he drank so much, then his milk intake drop drop drop 5th mths onwards.. sometimes only 50ml! even now, i'll be lucky if he finish his 150ml forumla milk (he's now on both BF and formula, BF is before sleeping/napping and midnights.. yes he still hasn't learn to sleep thru the nite!)

btw, do any of u ladies' babies sweat while they sleep? my boy not perspire, his head and neck area really sweat until the bedsheets has a big wet spot whenever he sleeps. has been like this since newborn till now.

and also i got a disgusting qns. do u perspire alot after delivery (not only confinement period)? especially under the breasts! and i feel i smell! smell like old woman! i ask my sis, she said she noticed she had that during her BF days.. after that no more.. how abt u ladies?

gross!
happy.gif

my boy perspires alot, but not so drama!! And, I do perspire alot! I don't think I smell, but I do find myself perspiring very easily especially when I am BFing.

dunno lei.. both me n hubby feel cold in the aircon room but my boy still can be wet at the back of his head and neck until bedsheets wet.

saw ur BP, so cute!!! wish i have a gal too!
happy.gif

heya.. any mummies interested in going for walks with their babies? I recently brought Isaac to walk the Kembangan park connector, it's quite nice. I walked to Ice Cream Chef (so I have some kind of motivation.. hahaha).. let me know!

Hey Cat, you're really good to organise the BP. I always tell my husband if I organise anything like that, I'll probably mix up all the orders, shortchange or overchange everyone!

That's why I went for something smaller, and started a website that sells handmade stuff I fancied, but after I was preggy with the 2nd one, I gave it up. I honestly don't even know where my maid kept the leftover stocks anymore. :p But, I might start it again. Have a look!
http://bagmama.blogspot.com/

I usually go in the evenings around 5 plus .. when it's not so warm. Usually, I'll walk there, and then take a cab back.. Hahaha...
happy.gif

haha, i rarely go for walks, lazy mummy! occassionally go to east coast beach.. anyway, kembangan too far for me..sorry can;t remember, where u ladies stay?

kimmies - saw ur web, the changing mats are so cutee..

hi there
long time didnt post here. was bz plus my elder girl kanna HFMD, lucky my boy was not infected.
i'm also one lazy mum! like cyn, occassionally will drop by east coast beach for a stroll
biggrin.gif

aiyo.. any idea how she got it?

my boy just recovered from his throat infection, high fever reached 39.6 for 2 nights, fever came down but went on for abt 2 more days, had diarrhea too.. was so worried.. think due to teething also.. i find it v nerve-wrecking... thank goodness its over..
happy.gif

cyn
i really dont know where she got it leh, hv not even put her in school yet, already kanna
sad.gif

i agree, when our little ones fall sick, its indeed very nerve wrecking. my girl's fever also went up & down for 4 days, only on the 5th day it finally subsided. lucky my boy not infected, cant imagine i hv to go thru it again! really thank god finally its over
happy.gif

Cat - i was doing nothing just now and went thru your blog.. Wow, time really flies.. looking how big Bernice is now. Little pretty princess, always dressed up in cute pretty dresses.. how i wish i ve a gal too! hehe..

I saw the cute float and pacificer with the doll attached.. v cute! which did u get the float from? My boy refuse to sit in his float (think bcos he got frighten when he can't touch the floor).

And I saw ur blog on going out with Bernice and i strongly agree when u said "So I not only lost my freedom I also lost my independence. ".. same here. My boy is too attached to me that he refuse to let anyone carry him when i'm near him, so when i go out shopping, i try not to carry him from the start, bcos once he is in my arms, he won't allow anyone to take over. And he dislikes strollers, he will stand up and turn around and face u while u try to push the stroller (v dangerous!!). My previous indonesian maids could carry him very well using the Sarong sling (traditional indo way).. but now my new maid is Filipino, none of us know how to use the sling, so i bought a new carrier (sling sideways, very good, the old one i had was carried infront with him either facing front or inwards, but he outgrow that liao), so nowadays we rarely bring out the stroller (even if he sit in it, it won't be longer than 30min, he insist i carry him.. think v spoilt!
happy.gif
).. so how's ur gal in strollers and car seats?

and aiyo! u enrol pre-school for Bernice already???!! Where's this SJCK? I haven't even think abt it for Antonio and he is already 15mths now.

Saw the injection clip too! poor gal, jabs on both legs. which jabs are those? Antonio didn't ve 2 jabs at one go b4. luckily, he was a brave boy, never cry b4 in any of his jabs except for a short scream. he too was looking at the clip jus now while on my lap, he kept looking at poor Bernice crying.. he look v serious while watching.. hehe.

Nice party. didnt realise ur gal born in the same yr as my boy except she's 8mths older. time flies! see how big ur Katie now. Where did u get the elmo cake fr?

btw, ur little handsome looks alot like u.

Dear mummies,

I'm new in this thread. was looking ard for preschools and gd kindergarten for my boy. Can I know if there r any gd recommendations?
Thanks!

wow, its been 7mths we never got into this thread.

Hi jerejoy
how old is ur boy? My boy (coming 2 next mth)started pre-school enrichment classes at Suntec Growing Up Gifted. He cries initially during the first few lessons but now he loves the class. THey had lots of fun singing, doing zoo phonics, art & craft.

There's quite a number of preschools and kindergarten in this area. Julia Gabriel, Brighten, Eton, MMI, Pat Schoolhouse etc but fees quite high. My nephew n niece were fr MMI along Mountbatten (almost 10 yrs ago though), they enjoy their school days there alot and they learn alot too! I'm thinking of checking out there for my son as well.

happy.gif

O, just to share.. my daughter is 2 years and 8 months and she's starting at Schoolhouse By The Bay at Kampong Arang next month. So excited.
happy.gif

Hi Cyn!!! How are you??Long time no chat! I went back to work already. You still a SAHM?

hi kimmies

im fine! but my boy still not talkin but he knows his zoo-phonics and know the sequence from a to z but just not talking.

great to see u back on this thread. how r u?

i'm still sahm bcos still deciding to ve baby#2 or not, plus we r still not comfortable leaving my boy (next wk coming 2) with my maid alone in the house.

How do u feel abt schoolhouse by the bay? understand that it share the same compound as the katong cc. so did u send ur gal to other school or courses b4 going to schoolhouse by the bay? i remember someone sent their kids to JWT..was it u? lau liao!.. haha!

O... your boy is how old? It's ok la.. no need to worry. I believe that all kids are different and develope at different age, so no need to worry. I'm back at work now, but boss is good, work is good, not complaining. I get to leave on the dot everyday. But, of course, given a choice, I prefer to stay at home la.
happy.gif

I love schoolhouse by the bay. I went to a few schools and shortlisted schoolhouse and shaw organisation. Then schoolhouse won because shaw has these major construction sites next to them, so it'll be very dusty and full of mozzies.

I judge the school by one simple criteria. I.e., how happy do the kids look.
happy.gif
For me, I don't need my daughter to learn anything, I just want her to play. And, the kids at Shaw and Schoolhouse looked really engaged and happy. I went to Kinderland and Brighton Montersorri.. they did looked abit bored, especially the ones at Kinderland. Anyways, I checked with Schoolhouse about the day courses for the public, and they said that it's very few. I verified this information with the course board outside the CC office, and true enough all the courses are weekdays night, or weekends. I didn't see any courses for weekday daytime, except the children's ballet.
happy.gif

So, I'm ok with it. I really like that school. My 2 nieces and nephew go there too. The only bummer is that the half day classes are under MOE and so, there is no working mother's subsidy.
